Rowell, in my opinion is s much better X and O guy than Bolt. Not the greatest, but better than Bolt. I thought hiring a guy that was out of coaching was a huge mistake.
DISCLAIMER - For those that are unaware, Hemi is related to Jeremy Rowell.

Don't think defense any better in fact some areas worse, don't care who is related to whom, Rowell I have heard was a good recruiter and maybe should have been moved to QB Coach not just let go. But someone had to be sacrificed after losing seasons, and everyone was blaming defense. Now we see it was a lot more than just that.

Should have looked at the HC ? Agree Rowell was a fish out of water

It would be really neat to try a year where facilities were top shelve in the conference along with HC and assistant salaries.....
Then maybe uniforms won't even be an issue.

Most things wouldn't change at Troy if the same staff was in place. Explain Texas then. Some of the best facilitates in football, 5 star recruits, top shelf pay for the whole staff and program losing year over year. The first thing that is needed is the right people. Not the only thing needed but the first thing.

IYO, what was the problem then? 1) I think the spread offense adversely effects most defenses. It also exposes any defense without a lot of depth. 2)Talent level declined on the defensive side of the ball when we it seemed our focus shifted to depth on the offensive side. 3) Missed in recruiting followed by the new oversigning rules seemed to really hurt our recruiting. That does fall on any and all the coaches. Troy was really good at oversigning and making those things work for them down the road. Also think that's how we got into the juco dependency that isn't a good thing. Couldn't afford the misses because or reason #1 and #2. 4) Yearly ineligible starters, usually defensive starters, forced a weak point in the defense to even be weaker. 5) Blame lies with coaches and players, always. Rowell, in my opinion is s much better X and O guy than Bolt. Not the greatest, but better than Bolt. I thought hiring a guy that was out of coaching was a huge mistake. 1) partially true, however Ark St. Runs the spread and has the #1 defense in the Sun Belt 2) true because of lazy recruiting and relying on over rated JUCO players for defensive help. 3) 100% correct. Never understood why we wasted time signing players who we knew didn't qualify. If they don't get the grades in HS you got about a 90% chance they won't do it in college. Instead of wasting our time on them we should have recruited academic qualified players. 4) not always but most were JUCO signees. See #3 5) both stunk. Rowell was over his head and Bolt is over the hill. lookng forward to a fresh start but the new coach has a mess to clean up. With everything I know I woukd look at a .500 season next year as tremendous with great things beyond that.

First thing Strong did was toss that, he said weight rooms are for working not sipping smoothies.

I agree that 6 wins next year would be good, but that opinion isn't based on anything that's happened this year.
