Just reporting what I've heard. I like the idea of recruiting on the edge but not illegal I wasn't knocking him or praising him for it. Just pointing out that family thinks outside the box.

Dear Lord don't hire Chizik. What are the criteria for a Troy coach..being fired from Auburn?? Well, if that's true, CLB set a decent precedent. GC could then come in for maybe 15 years and then retire after rebuilding and some fairly successful seasons. My absolute fear thee would be that he'd retain someone with whom he has an existing relationship and I won't get a new neighbor.

Chizik comes we will still stink. He had a losing record at Iowa St, we could do so much better than him.
The difference in LB and Chizik is LB wasn't fired for losing.

This is where we need someone to post the video of the man yelling Boo we want a winner not a loser when they hired him at Auburn. I think there would be a lot of Troy fans yelling exactly that if he is the next Troy coach.

CLB was fired (from Auburn) for his involvement in the Eric Ramsey debacle. If you aren't familiar with this, Google Eric Ramsey, there isn't enough room here to explain all that went down. In summary, CLB took the fall for Pat Dye in an NCAA scandal at Auburn. He was involved, in fact admitted such, but he took all the blame. When you see one of our rivals use the term "keep it down home, cuz", know that's their attempt to criticize us for our choice of coach. I personally feel the character trait (loyalty) that caused him to be willing to lay on a grenade for Dye is the same one that has perhaps cost him at the end of his career. He is loyal to his coaches, perhaps to a fault.

Oh dear lord?? I couldn't figure out how to quote multiple posts, so let me summarize. The discussion was about hiring a recent former Auburn coach who was fired for losing. The point was made that if he came in and did as another former Auburn coach, we'd be ok. It was pointed out that there was a difference in the two (Chizek was fired for losing, CLB wasn't. Context my friend, context. Ask questions within the context of the the ongoing discussion and you will be less likely receive answers you feel are ridiculous and that fail to answer your question.

I'm well aware why each man was canned at AU. I've said it elsewhere on this board and I'll repeat it here: I'm not championing the case for Chizik. I'll trust AD JH to make the right choice. Whoever it is, Chizik, Orgeron, Campbell, Turk, or any other name you'd care to insert here, fans need to expect a process before a return to winning ways. Whoever it ultimately is will not be the #1 choice across the board here. Some will be happy, others won't. We need to support that man and his staff as loyal TU alumni and fans. Support them until given a reason that the support is no longer warranted.

Love LB and I'm also excited for the future. Everyday is a great to be a Trojan!!!!

Loyalty is a great trait. No doubt about it. I would submit that it has also put our beloved football team in its current state. I believe loyalty is what kept LB from making necessary staff changes or waiting too long to make needed staff changes

Just to be clear, Coach Blakeney was not fired from Auburn. The Ramsey scandal and Sixty Minutes story broke after he was hired and working at Troy.

Yes, and he is one of the only coaches in NCAA history to be placed on probation at his current school (TROY) for rule infractions that occurred at his previous school (Burn).

I believe you certainly disagreed when it came to Rowell. You defended Rowell, stating he should not have been fired. Didn't you even say he would be an excellent HC at Troy when CLB was gone ?

I knew Rowell wasn't the problem and Bolt wasn't the answer. I've never said anything about Rowell being head coach. IYO, what was the problem then? 1) I think the spread offense adversely effects most defenses. It also exposes any defense without a lot of depth. 2)Talent level declined on the defensive side of the ball when we it seemed our focus shifted to depth on the offensive side. 3) Missed in recruiting followed by the new oversigning rules seemed to really hurt our recruiting. That does fall on any and all the coaches. Troy was really good at oversigning and making those things work for them down the road. Also think that's how we got into the juco dependency that isn't a good thing. Couldn't afford the misses because or reason #1 and #2. 4) Yearly ineligible starters, usually defensive starters, forced a weak point in the defense to even be weaker. 5) Blame lies with coaches and players, always. Rowell, in my opinion is s much better X and O guy than Bolt. Not the greatest, but better than Bolt. I thought hiring a guy that was out of coaching was a huge mistake.

I suspect we hired Bolt because he was all we could afford and the change was one that was put off then when they did decide to pull that trigger to change DC's he was all that was affordable. Was he better than Rowell? Not sure, doesn't look like it. Does that make Rowell the man for that job? 3-4 years proved not. Our defense was getting worse under Rowell, not better. It's gotten worse under Bolt. My simple opinion about Troy football is the problem is not a simple one and is more complex than a coach. Obviously coaching is an issue, player discipline is an issue, complete commitment by players to a lofty goal is an issue, commitment by administration is an issue so fixing one might not solve the other problems. The powers that be must sit down and reevaluate their commitment as to where they see Troy going athletically and provide leadership and funding to get us there. We have issues HUGE issues and fixing them won't be as easy as simply hiring one coach. MAYBE the right coach can pusth the other issues to a point of solution, we'll see. This hire is HUGE!
