Just about half of them played football at Troy. Pretty good mix of opinions. I've served on committees like this and they are window dressing! We don't have time for that stuff. This is a business decision for Troy University and JH and he/they darn sure better hire who's right for Troy University football and that doesn't take a committee. When banks, businesses etc. make major decisions they don't put together a group of folks from Troy, etc. that half know little or nothing about the requirements, demands of the job they are helping hire for. Granted, politically it looks good but at this point that's the least of this fans worries. This might make the hire time consuming and frankly time is running out on Troy football without leaving a huge hole in the base support. The right coach NOW might be able to stir the base that better days are ahead and help hole and get quality commitments. JMHO! To get buy in and money on board you have to have connect the dots. Pretty good job in my opinion. Sure the decision is the AD's but there is some pretty good positioning here to guarantee it will be his.
We need to think through this on all angles. I personally am kind of learning toward the fact we need someone who will be here for his love of the university as well as his coaching ability (Steve Campbell). We are in a bad place and that devotion to Troy already in the heart of a coach may be the special mixture needed.

Window dressing. I personally know several of these folks and they are not qualified to search for football leadership. Good people but have no business "advising" on who our next coach is. Hartwell has his career resting on this decision, he'll make it himself. This statement besides Hartwell making the call shows you really have no clue what you are talking about on this subject. Really ? Alot of people agree

You and I agree a lot and I know this committee is in place like it or not. Trust me, it's winfow dressing! If JH is as smart as I think he is he WILL NOT turn a hire that will go a long way in determining his future status at Troy and other places over to any comittee of folks that half have no idea of the needs of an athletic hire. I don't know Campbell but if he is THE BEST MAN FOR THE JOB I'm all for him but I suspect LB has a love for Troy University and that doesn't score a point, get a player or win a game. Now if you have the other skills to coach along with that then GREAT hire him or any other "Troy person" but when all is said and done, THIS FAN wants the BEST COACH be d--n where he comes from!!!!!

Oh he has the coaching ability! troystet is talking them everywhere. I said JH will make the call, but what I also said this was a great selection of a committee that will let him and back him once it is made. There are even some picks that have the ability to keep dear leader's nose out of this pie. Just saying.

[ Don't ever believe thst "Dear Leader" won't have the final say, his butt is in the plane that's going down as well and he controls the flaps! It's time he stopped doing the camera stuff and got committed......REALLY COMMITTED to keeping Troy competitive at D1! He helped decide to move there so he knew the investment.....or should have. I just don't want this hire held up a single day because they couldn't get the committee together. Time is ah runnin' out!

Have anyone of you who fussing about the committee ever stopped to think it was more about building a financial base for the future than this committee hand picking the next coach? If I'm not mistaken this is an advisory committee, which means Hartwell gives them his narrowed down list and says what do you think, then makes his decision. I could have it completely wrong, but that's how I see it. If you can get many of the individuals on that list excited about being involved and about the next coach it can mean mega bucks for the athletic program and that is something we have time for.

AD JH is playing the game by having this committee. My only "problem" with it is its complete lack of my presence on it.

Do you mean having bankers, lawyers, energy company execs, former TROY & NFL players get involved MIGHT lead to financial benefits for the athletic department? I would never have guessed that. Apparently, neither did our former AD. (Sorry, I couldn't find the sarcasm font button or I would have used it). As long as this advisory committee doesn't cause some kind of bureaucratic log jam, I think it's a great idea.
