They both play all out every play. Very impressed. Stadom saved some plays that would have been long runs. Having him three more seasons is exciting. I like Calloway and Peek inside too...a lot of upside with those guys. Another two that give you all they have. I think we have them for another two or three years also. I also like Roland at LB. He finds the ball. Not our biggest or fastest but he plays hard and makes plays.

We talked about that Saturday, what's the story with Pruitt not playing? I get it that Silvers is suppose to be our future QB but unless his downfield throws get a LOT better we will have to abandon the spread. We virtually never throw across the middle nor deep down the middle. If running the QB is our game plan now then Pruiitt seems to hold the edge yet he never played anymore. That's strange given the schollys we gave out for that position. 4 on scholarship and one playing. Pruitt isn't any faster than Silvers. He is more elusive though. Could possibly be that Silvers is just making better decisions and that they wanted to get him comfortable and in a groove. Maybe they saw something in Pruitt at Georgia that told them he wasn't ready? Not in the result, but in the execution and or decision making. The one thing I noticed with Pruitt I didn't like was he needs to control the velocity on his passes. He literally threw the ball through his receivers on several passes at Georgia. You have to throw a soft ball sometimes. Maybe that is what the coaches saw? Their had to be something. Pruitt also had a few turnovers to. Silvers interception I almost predicted when it left his hand. He had overthrew the same route a few plays before so he took some off the thron and under threw it. Other than that he is making good decisions. I wish he would get down on some runs but as a former OL you like blocking for hard nosed players like that.

You're right...I'm pretty sure there are 5 on schollies and 2 walk-ons... On a different subject, I had a interesting conversation with three former players that all came to Troy via JUCO. What they were talking about was interesting. To them if you are signed out of JUCO you are supposed to come in and start. They have you for two years and are using a scholly for two vs four years. They can't understand how we signed 14 JUCO players, all but three on the D side and two at QB yet only one started on D and one on offense and neither qb is even playing. Their answer was we are misjudging talent?? I don't know, this came from former JUCO players but it gets you thinking? At QB we needed options after a starter for 4 years. They all got a chance to compete. The juco's were competing against a guy who had basically been on campus 2 yrs and knew the offense. I think Larry got tired of the rotating system and made a call on who his QB would be. I think that is healthy for the football team. You can't argue with the competiveness the last two games and I think as the season goes on having a starter not rotating 2 will allow the team to find an identity and move forward. Now on the defensive side of the ball I assume the same thing happened. The guys here got pushed. JUCOs made them step up their game. JUCOs either start or offer immediate depth in my opinion.

Maybe they saw something in Pruitt at Georgia that told them he wasn't ready? Not in the result, but in the execution and or decision making. Maybe he, Silvers, is just better? Coaches get paid to coach, and they have decided he was better. Well duh, I completely agree with you that it's coaches job to decide and they are at practice every day but my thought/question was WHY Pruitt wasn't playing AT ALL. I would love to have a little wager on which of the two are fastest but just for fun. Maybe you've seen them tested together but I sure don't see Silvers bring faster on the field. Like you, I give Pruitt the quickness/alluding factor. Just seems like, with all the designed QB runs, it would be wise to share the hits. I, and others, wonder about the downfield throws. Last week he (Silvers) had chances at open receivers down the side deep and completely missed them or threw into tight cover, his fault and there were basically no throws short or long over the middle. That could be play calling or his lack of progression which LB has said was a problem earlier. I miss Robinsons arm strength. I agree, to speculate, one would have to believe something has surfaced to keep him (Pruitt) off the field completely. Georgia's defense is tough competition to be judged against so hopefully is at practice/locker room as well. No matter, the coaches are there and they know what situations are so I accept their decisions (like it would make a difference if I/we didn't, HA) I suspect we will have some scholarships available out of this bunch of QB's after this year. GREAT win Saturday!! Not sure how good they (NMSU) are and its the same this week. HOPEFULLY we can show our improvements against folks like ULL, SoAl and GaSo!

Why use scholarships on TWO QB's when you have a 3rd year freshman (Silvers) available as well as other options. You would like to think by now they knew what Silvers brought to the table. Three QB's on scholarships standing on the sideline. Silvers is getting better as games pass but the arm strength is not what Corys was, at least not yet. I look for the day we throw to Flakes (#21). Right now he basically blocks but that kid can run.....and has moves.

That was why I always leaned at Pruitt winning it out if Tidwell did not. What I see happened, is you have 3 (not sure on the other scholarship kids ability) with different things they bring to the table. Silvers, Running ability and great athlete, Pruitt, a proven winner at the JUCO level, great arm, but small, and Tidwell, arm strength and deep ball , great athlete, but slower, but great leader. In the end, the Coaches had to go with who they felt they could win with. I too agree that after spring at least 2 of those scholarships may open up, which makes me a little nervous, because your depth is gone. However I do believe a new coach could bring their own QB with them, that may have to sit out a year, or have some they are recruiting where they are, and all current ones we have on scholarship will be trying out again. Also, the learning possibly of a new offense, depending on if our OC is retained.

I never thought Corey had a great arm...good but not great. The difference I see is when CR was a R-FR his only competition was Jamie Hampton who was coming off injury. He could let it rip. Silvers beat out a Junior and two JUCO signees. He has s good arm I think he can throw more relaxed knowing he won't get yanked first mistake. He has potential to be great.

You had players recruited for Myers system and they hire Muschamp who brings in that dinosaur Weiss who attempts to run a pro style with a spread team.

Points are well made but I think the thoughts were, you never want to see JUCO's that you gave a scholarship to standing on the sideline never playing. You can't afford to have new players (academic juniors) on scholarship not contributing. I realize the injury factors but it's tough to attempt to cover that with JUCO's. Better they be RSF or even better (like Silvers with Robinson) a grey shirt, red shirt freshman. (I realize he was red shirted last year but if needed the red shirt could be pulled). As troystet said, even the JUCO's understand those expectations.

Oh please, let's not change offensive directions!!!!! I pray that whomever we hire runs some version of the fast spread. That's the toughest to defend and that's what we have recruited toward for years.

We will agree to disagree on Corys arm strength. His accuracy, given time to throw, was much better than our currtent QB's....at least in my opinion. I know Silvers is in his first year as the starter but he has had the luxury of two years of preparation before being thrown into the heat of the real battle and that's unbelievable so expectations are somewhat higher for him than it would be for a RSF.

I agree, I would not be offended if some slight changes and twist were added though, like getting under center in certain situations, etc. But my main point being, getting used to a new staff in general . Its like learning to work for a new Principal, Boss, etc.

I've seen glimpses, highlights, and big plays, but rarely all on the same day. It's not the absolute best right now, but this work-in-progress is starting to live up to its potential. I was very impressed by this defense most of the game, with the exception of a few chunk plays and some coverage snafus. We've gone from no defense, to some defense, to now that's a defense! It's been a long time coming, but the fable is just now being written. I'm going to love how this story ends... This defense just got lit up to the tune of 53 points at home by a team that was 1-4 (including a loss to Liberty ) Don't blame the players, their coaches are showing 10% leadership.

I didn't think we could outdo the Abilene Christian fiasco but they proved me wrong. What was worse, it looked like they could have cared less and that's REALLY disturbing!

This post read we have a defense. Yes we have a defense that let APP STATE rush 441 yards against us. If this a defense we are celebrating then expectations are set so low we should start recruiting little league players. We would get about the same results.
