I figured this would, hopefully, be a good thread to look at not only the endzone building but other things that could be done to make a difference either to recruits and/or fans. I really don't want this to be another argument thread, so please lets try and get along.
I think everyone will agree that we desperately need the endzone building not just for recruiting, but also to help attract a new coach when the time comes and to help promote Troy even more on the national level. That being said I saw some things at a game this weekend that I think would be small, but important things for fans. We took my stepson to an Auburn game for his bday and I saw some small things that could be implemented at Troy that could make a big difference in game days. After for larger things for recruits, I'm not sure what can be done.
The first is that they have stadium chais that you can rent and attach to your seats, either for the season or for a game. For season ticket holders they were orange with Auburn on the back that were zip tied to their seat for the season. The other were just black that you could rent in the stadium for $8 per game. I know many of you are in the, "we don't sit down ever and neither should you" club but not everyone is. In fact by the number of these I saw either being rented or that were zip tied to the seats many people at Auburn sit down during games too. The reason I bring this up is because after halftime a lot of people left but the stadium still looked almost full because the stadium chairs filled in the silver with team colors to make it look like a filled seat from a distance. I think this is something that could quickly pay for itself then make a profit each season, then also make it look a little better on tv because if people leave or don't show up yet have one attached to their seat it makes it look like a filled seat if there are people still around it.
The second is they had people walking around the stands selling drinks. I know this has been done in the past but for whatever reason its not now, I think this would help improve concessions sales. We were at the very top of the stadium which meant it was 35 rows down then back up for a concessions run... which means we weren't gonna make a lot trips down. With the people walking around selling drinks we ended up spending a lot more for bottled drinks than we would have spent on concessions otherwise. I think this is also something that would help with concessions lines.
The Third is when leaving the game they had signs and officers set up directing traffic along the quickest routes out of town. Granted we left early, but from the time we got to our car it only took us 10 minutes to get out of Auburn. Currently this isn't a big problem at Troy, unfortunately, but at some point the stadium will start to be packed out and having this in place before hand to work out the kinks would be a good idea. Also having a cop at the light on 231 where most the traffic flows would be a great idea, even if they weren't standing in the road directing traffic. I saw cops on the way into the gave at those silver boxes with controllers the light controls that allowed them to control the lights so they could manage the flow of traffic, this would be awesome after games.

We have a stadium store for folks who want to buy seats. I can't imagine this would be more expensive than renting. I doubt we'd be able to leave seasts permanently zip tied for 5-6 home games a year especially when we share our stadium for high school games. I could have misunderstood what you were saying about the stadium seats completely.
I agree about having concession sellers in the stands. I'd like to see it too, but when you have 17,000 something announced late in the season and a big chunk of those leave early it's no longer cost effective to hire too many walking vendors.
I always see police officers posted on streets around campus when we leave. YMMV. I have seen them on 231 in the past, but I don't recall that this season.
Final thoughts: 80k people have to be handled differently than 20k. Growing pains mean we are growing. It takes time to adjust and get things right but the ad's staff made a lot of adjustments between games 1 & 2 this year to make things better.

That's one way to get people to read a post...In all seriousness, that's like comparing someone that makes 50K to a multimillionaire. Apples to oranges. We have a plan in place, but it requires people to invest in that plan and not wait on the neighbor to put in first. We may never attain what the $EC schools have, but that should not be a deterrent from being the best we can. It is not going to be easy, but I welcome the challenge. I certainly hope that others feel the same way.

I also like the idea of a few concessionaires walking the aisles during games. At FSU it looks like they've got 8 year olds doing it (ok, maybe 14?) so it seems like getting a youth group to do it, or as some sort of part-time thing, ought to be feasible. The ones at FSU wear numbered neon t-shirts, so I guess if one of them spit in your sno-cone you could identify the culprit.
I've never had much problem leaving TROY after games - I generally just drive down to Elm Street, take a right, and then back on 231 South before you know it! And I do see cops around the school.
I also like the idea of the seat rentals. Given that the big-spenders tend to have seat-backs anyway (bench-backs and the upper-deck) I'm not sure the market is big enough to make it worthwhile, but FSU does this also, and to clarify to other posters, the way this worked is that they are placed on the seat before the game and removed after it - not left up for the whole season. They are certainly popular in Tallahassee.

Oh, but for facilities themselves? Yeah, it'd be a good idea to get some.

At some point we need our AD to give an update on this project. To much we need this built, we need people to give, we need to move dirt etc. Without some kind of time frame..are we a year away, 2 years away etc, it starts to sound like a pie in the sky dream to the avg fan and alumni. Just my opinion but I think some kind of time frame is needed, it feels like we are being told to run but not how far or how long.

Force his hand to either provide you with substance or gobbledygook.

It takes time to adjust and get things right but the ad's staff made a lot of adjustments between games 1 & 2 this year to make things better. Well one thing about the stadium chairs there is that they were much more comfortable than what you can buy at Troy and they are making pure profit off of them by now. Plus I personally would rather spend $8 a game to rent one that is really comfortable and not have to worry about bringing it in or out than buy one for $20ish that is not all that comfortable and I have to keep up with. Think about it, if they got 1,000 for say $30 a pop that's $30,000 lets say they will last 5 years and they get sold out every game. They would pay for themselves plus 18k the first year then would make a profit of $48,000 a year for the next 4 years which comes in at $192,000 That's not much in the grand scheme of things but its still more than we are getting now. Obviously that's best case scenario, could even start with 500 and if they do good keep adding them.
I fully agree on the 80k vs 20k, but I do think there are some traffic areas that could be better coordinated by police. You are right some of it is growing pains and the AD and his staff are really stepping things up. I love the way they are listening to the fans and making appropriate changes when they need to be made. I was just looking at a couple things to help improve the fans gameday experience plus one that might bring in a lil pocket change.

I agree that we should stick to the plan that is in place and see it through. Although as far as I've seen right now it's just getting the building up and I haven't really seen much on it other than an artist rendition and I think a price tag and that was a while ago. I also don't want to attain what an SEC school down the road has, because then we would just be their little brother. I think your statement that we should strive to be the best we can be is spot on. I don't want us to be like Auburn or Bama or LSU or Boise or any other school, I want us to be uniquely Trojans so that when people see us they say that's the Trojan way and they see us as trail blazers.

I agree with what's being said but the earth's been around for a few thousand years. Not much is original. So I don't think we should be down on one idea just because someone else has something similar going for them.

You're right, what makes us different isn't the things we do, but how those things we do fit together. Just like what made "A Christmas Carol" huge success was not the words that Charles Dickens used, for the had all been used before, but rather the order in which he used them.

As much as I'd love a new endzone facility I think it's important to let everything pan out over time. We're not winning now so we don't have to be building now, as great as it would be.

The city is supposedly widening Montgomery and Madison streets from 231 all the way to the college to alleviate traffic problems during home games. At least that was in the city's Master Plan a few years ago. Not sure what the status is now.

That makes no sense... how so? The money will be raised when the money will be raised. A big building isn't what's keeping us from winning football. I think there's plenty of other things that could help stop the bleeding.

Troy used to have teens selling concessions a few years ago. Remember the thread? They were wearing Auburn gear!
