This is all we get after the past few years and then this season's start? No specifics, no plan of action, no comments on the chemistry and apparent lack of heart? It appears our A.D. has jumped on the Kool-Aid train. If this situation is allowed to sadly play out for the entire season, Troy is dead for recruiting this year and more than likely dead for two or three more seasons as a new coach has to pick up the pieces. But is it so comforting to know that our AD. is fully confident in our program. Not! Disgusted. >>MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The Troy Trojans are off to such a rough start that athletic director John Hartwell felt compelled to speak in defense of longtime coach Larry Blakeney this week. The Trojans are 0-3 for the first time since 1982 and getting ready to face No. 13 Georgia on Saturday. It’s a huge step up from Championship Subdivision’s Abilene Christian, which rallied from a two-touchdown deficit to beat Troy 38-35 Saturday night. It was that program’s first win over an FBS-level team since a victory over UTEP in 1959. Hartwell spoke out after receiving “a barrage of emails and texts and Twitter messages” from disgruntled fans. He also said he had lengthy discussions with Blakeney on Sunday. The next day he said he had “full confidence” in his coach after Blakeney’s weekly news conference. “Larry didn’t all of a sudden forget how to coach overnight,” Hartwell said. “I mean, the guy has won a whole bunch of football games, and the guys on his staff have helped him win a bunch of football games. And we’ve got some very talented young men playing on our football team. Those guys are hurting, too. And it’s not a time to say woe is me and I don’t have this and I don’t have that.”<<

Have you ever seen an AD come out and publicly criticize or ridicule the head coach? Whatever John Hartwell's feelings are it's his job to publicly support the staff that is still in place while working behind the scenes to fix whatever the problems may be. He's a professional and very good at his job.
I'm not a Troy fan because of wins and losses.

I am confident that Troy's football program took a 20 year step backwards this past Saturday.

It's much less about wins and losses than the way the team is perceived and the way it plays. Offensively.
For an A.D. to come out and say everything is great and our coach knows how to coach is just foolish. If he still can coach, he either can't manage his assistants, picked the wrong support personnel and/or forgot how to recruit and develop players.
The A.D. of the Titanic is rearranging the deck chairs.

I still will sit Saturday in front of the TV Saturday pulling for my Trojans, knowing the outcome will not be as I would want. With that being said, what do you expect an AD to do? No reason to fire a HC mid season, especially if not confident as most of are not, in any of the assistants to step in and take over the season. So the best thing that could be done is what was done and show a unified tempory front to a man who has done alot for Troy. The impact on recruiting will already be felt, but as always, there will be more players than enough D1 schools available. Through with the bashing I guess you can say, and will watch patiently the next few years a we rebuild a program, hopefully increase of funds to break ground on needed upgrades, and hire the best damn coach our money can buy in order for us to compete.

What I want the AD to address is How does Troy go from dominating the Sunbelt for 5 straight years to struggling to win any sunbelt games the next 3 years?

If Florida State has taken the same road and waited and waited and waited for that winning season to come ... if I am not mistaken, they had hired a coach really already? "coach in waiting", not sure everyone else opinions, but do we have that I don't realize it?

Everyone knows the train is off the tracks and happy endings only occur in Korean massage parlors. Start the search for a new coach.

That said, I think the article does a good job recognizing Larry's auspicious history at Troy. Like others have said is the AD supposed to trash him to the media? Sent from my KFTT using Tapatalk

John Hartwell has a boss maybe he was blocked by Jack Hawkins. It's likely John Hartwell knows exactly what he's doing and it's getting done in the right manner. I'm not a Troy fan because of wins and losses.

Not much more evidence needed, especially after losing to a Div II team at home.

Call me crazy, but I think out AD has a better grasp on the situation with Troy athletics than the TroyFans keyboard AD/coach. I'm well award that Troy lost to an FCS school. Was totally unaware of the DII loss. I'm not a Troy fan because of wins and losses.

The best thing for the school right now would be if the fan base would focus their attention on the Georgia game. Let's save the negativity until Saturday if they come out unprepared. If our team is unprepared after this week then I don't think anyone on the current staff has the answers to turn it around. We may get overpowered but we should be able to tell the players intensity and if there is a game plan to win. We need a little school pride until then from the fan base. And yes winning helps foster school pride but in actuality it has nothing to do with it as far as the fan base is concerned. Go Trojans!! Kick them Dawgs!!!!

Troy is in the middle of a 4 year bottoming out. Not much more evidence needed, especially after losing to a Div II team at home. While the play has been ugly at times and disorganized at others, after the 3-9 season the team did improve from a purely win/loss perspective. You don't fire a coach who's been at the school for 25 years when the team is improving from a numbers perspective, especially at the beginning of the season. What you do is quietly tell him that he needs to win X number of games this season or it's time to call it quits. The beginning of this season may be it, but this time I agree with Hemi. It does no good to act like a fool to the media and fire the coach you named your field after. The one who built the current program. We don't need to know what's happening to CLB (unless he wants us to) until the end of the season. And unless those big dollar donors who are complaining to the AD will pony up some more cash, we probably won't see a buy out of the staff in addition to the hiring of a new and improved one. (ha! - I said big dollar donors in a Troy sentence - snark!)

Sounds good, we don't want to hurt anyone's feelings. Y'all call Vegas and tell them they are poop for not giving us respect, that being 42 point underdog is not right.
We have the Washington Post and sites like SB nation "discussing" the sad state of Troy football and we fiddle on.
But hey we could actually win Saturday right ?

(For entertainment purposes only.)True, but it provides an honest evaluation/comparison of the state of the program vs. your peers. But hey, we might win tomorrow, CLB turns it around and we win three straight Sunbelt titles, possibly sniffing the playoff.
