I think we are in really good hands with HCJS. Can u imagine those teams with less dynamic leaders or say Troy about hmmmm years ago. We would be watching the portal much like many read the obituaries just to make sure they are not listed!
Musical chairs had always been played but even with modifications the portal is a bad storm that most just hoped it goes somewhere else. Good luck to Hawkins and Pogue!

As long as we're not losing key contributors we'll be alright. So far we haven't lost anyone, outside of Tez, that would have had a big impact in 2023. Every player that leaves gives us an opportunity refill their scholarship with a better athlete from the portal. I'd like to see us grab a couple of playmakers at DT/NT. We have talent there, but we need depth and a guy who can try and match Choloh's output.
Total count outgoing after spring so far is 4.
QB Quayde Hawkins LS Collin Westfelt CB Nasir Poque OL Matthew Johnson

Watch him be the next Gardner Minshew... comes to Troy and can't make it to the starting QB, then goes elsewhere and winds up being a Heisman candidate.

Noted for years that some players, particularly QB's are "Practice" QB's and others are PLAYERS! Gardner Minshew a great case in point. Another was Levi Brown.

So much attention in recent years has focused on "The Portal" and / or NIL "deals" that we sometimes forget WHY team members used to leave schools! Remember when student-athletes used to leave because they forgot the student part of their job responsibilities? Remember when players no longer had the potential to be the right fit for a position or scheme and coaches encouraged and helped them find another place?
QB Quayde Hawkins LS Collin Westfelt CB Nasir Poque OL Matthew Johnson RB Jamontez Woods OL Jonas Woods
One of these guys is an example of how our players are winners in all phases of their development ... Sophomore in classification, BUT entering The Portal as a Graduate Transfer with two years eligibility left = WINNING! One of these individuals received TWO offers (from schools closer to his hometown) within an hour of him announcing that he was in The Portal ... Do you think he was able to accomplish that on his own while others disappear into The Portal and NEVER exit it!?!
I am happy for these that have made their travel plans known! Godspeed and remember, "ONCE a Trojan, ALWAYS a Trojan"!

The talent on this team is ridiculous. I hope all of these transfers find their place to be superstars.
As long as it's not against us.

Sad to hear. He had a good spring. That's surprising. Didn't expect that.
Time for Sumrall to dip back into the portal for another big WR.

Kind a wondered about that room being so full. Good luck to him as well. With Kimani Vidal and now Asa Martin, on top of Jarris Williams starting to become a really good RB, it was going to be hard for Jamontez Woods to get a lot of playing time. Asa Martin is very similar to Jamontez Woods, but a tad more talented.
I was wondering when Jarris Williams would start to crack the depth chart at RB. That dude is talented and was a 4-star recruit per ESPN... had offers from Tennessee, Kentucky, and Missouri.

I'm pretty Jarris got some playing time on the second-team offense, alongside either QB Goose Crowder or Tucker Kilcrease. I know for a fact Barry called his name a few times on the radio. Sumrall has also mentioned him a couple of times over the spring.

I’d be surprised if any of the guys who left this week didn’t have some help out the door. A guy named Paul Harvey had a segment “The rest of the story”. Sting u maybe right on this one (maybe more) but it looked like going to be getting playing time then transfer? Maybe Troy was not his cup of tea and wants to be a bigger metro place?

More playing time based on what? That he caught passes at TDay where the benches emptied and everyone played?
