HCJS gave a presser. What’s up with TSOTS? Are y’all working on something really cool this season?

After COVID, our numbers dropped pretty heavily. This year, we’re back to around 330 which is super exciting.
Alabama A&M’s band will be at the home opener, so that’s always a good time. We’re also traveling to some of the farther-away games on the schedule, so we’ll be representing well.
As for the show, you’ll just have to wait and see. We’ve added a good bit of new stand tunes as well.

Is there any way we can petition to bring back the original drum cadence and the original fanfare? I didn't like them at first and thought maybe give it a chance and it would grow on me but I'm still not feeling it after a year or two and I think we need to go back to tradition.

I am upset about it.

No chills or goosebumps anymore. Don't even have the urgency to be seated before SOTS "fanfare". That original drum cadence was the Bomb!

If it was there before you it can't possibly be good or have any reason to exist. All that matters is woke "progressivism" and modernism.

Get rid of the director of bands. It is the only way. These awful shows have got to go. Why ya at it get a new drill writer. My 9 year old could do better.

I have to ask is there any way we can politely (but firmly) ask for the traditional material to be reinstated? Who could we message about this?

Dixie is not coming back.
Are You From Dixie is not coming back.
The original 1965 Fanfare as written by Dr. Johnny Long is not coming back. I would doubt they even fix the broken mess of the modern one.
Melodic percussion on the sideline is not coming back, the equipment is expensive and Jack needs extra pennies for Chinese stuff...oh, and plaques with his name on it. A beautiful dimension of sound be damned! Never mind that schools with smaller budgets can do it, hell, even high schools.
The SOTS, under its current leadership will continue to play Top 40 music from revolving decades with a bland, uninspired drill and you better like it!

Let’s replace them with an ipod and dogs catching frisbees.

Seriously, we went from having the best band in all of college football to possibly the worst. Droves of people used to come to games just to see the sound. Now we go stand in line for snacks at halftime.

The band has certainly taken a downward spiral in the last 20 years. The Pep Band does a better job.

Does anyone know why we invite a guest band to a home game and then have only 4 minutes for the SOTS at halftime?

Other than that, cornhole and crew enjoyed the change of pace and variety offered by the "Marching" Tornadoes! I read that Talladega College was considering a varsity football program at one time.

Does anyone know why we invite a guest band to a home game and then have only 4 minutes for the SOTS at halftime? Talladega doesn’t have a football team, so their band has very limited performance opportunities. The etiquette among bands is that the visiting band gets priority at halftime. Their director and drum majors came over after halftime and they were super nice, they thanked us for working with them, and they said they definitely want to come back next season.

The band has certainly taken a downward spiral in the last 20 years. The Pep Band does a better job. The last, memorable halftime composition in cornhole memory was 'The Devil Came Down to Georgia"... 5 years ago?? Just put it on the I Pod and play at half. (cornhole apologize for the negativity, but....)

The changing of the Fan Fare and cutting Are You From Dixie from the set list really rubbed me the wrong way. It's not like back in the day when Dixie was our fight song we have a few notes of the tune mixed in with other melodies. I really wish the Sound could go back to the fun of the days when Dr. Long ran the show.

I enjoyed their show. They were a nice addition and having a brief show by SOTS would be considered appropriate etiquette. I actually found it funny that the official had to rebuke them for playing while there is a life play going on. No disrespect meant by them but a school without football just did not know it. When mentioned they complied. Over all entertaining and thanks for coming down Tornadoes!

The wokeness is going backward in some respects. The old fanfare should come back not in any way to say anything except it was better and tradition and is not the whole song!!

Talladega College is welome any time. Let them have the whole halftime. Heck, let’s bus them in every game. We could save a bunch of money if we didn’t have a band.
