So... does anyone have a general idea of what's going on with Beth Mullins? It's concerning that she takes a medical leave of absence and out of nowhere, she resigns. That's a tough decision made by her, so there must be a great reason for it. Some things are best left alone and not aired on a public forum. That's fine, but I don't understand. Was it medical related, or simply something else?

Quite frankly it's none of our business and we should respect her privacy in this personal health matter. We should appreciate her for her efforts on behalf of the program and pray for her recovery from whatever the problem may be.

We have totally blurred the lines between public and private lives. As head softball coach at Troy the question is does that occupation make you an absolute public figure in all aspects of your life. I don’t think so and hopefully everyone will be able to respect that position. Coach is not a Kardasian or the President.

My only concern was would we look at this the same way if it was the football or basketball coaches or even baseball. There is a privacy issue granted, but when you state a medical reason for leave of absence and then NO reason for resignation and in mid season, how does that play in to boosters? fans? and Alumni? When the athletic dept is asking for donations and fund raising and you have a coach that resigns mid season with no reason given it doesn't look good for potential donors. Now how many softball donors we have?? but we did have a family fund the new indoor batting cages. Softball is a relative minor sport at Troy, not so much at schools like UCLA, Florida, Alabama, Arizona etc. but it doesn't look good for the program and that is a fact. Even if medical, personal etc was given it would at least be closure but now you wonder was it medical? was it something inside the program that will eventually be exposed? I absolutely respect privacy to a point but this one is starting to make me wonder if there isn't something else that is yet to be revealed.

WE continue to support all Troy Athletics and respect the Administration for their stance on this..

It's just sort of weird.
If it was something where Coach Mullins had a terrible illness or something like that, it seems the statements coming from her and the Troy admin would've looked a lot different. But instead, the statements read as if there was something her and Troy University weren't quite on the same page about.
Statements coming out of Tennessee for Pat Summitt, EKU for A.W. Hamilton, Coastal Carolina for Joe Moglia, ULL for for baseball coach Tony Robicheaux, ULL for softball coach Stefni Lotief... they all eluded to medical issues and were a rally-cry for their fans, players, and communities to come together for those particular coaches.
But instead we have:
End of statement from Brent Jones: "I want to thank Beth for her dedication to our softball program and its student-athletes over the past eight years. All of us wish her the best of luck in the future." End of statement from Beth Mullins: "It has been a privilege coaching at Troy, and I look forward to seeing this program continue its forward momentum. Go Trojans." Add in the fact there were absolutely zero updates, thoughts, condolences, etc. requested after her medical leave was announced... not even the softball players have been rallying for Mullins on their social media.
It just gives this vibe that Troy is trying to say "THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING... NOW LET'S MOVE ALONG, NOTHING TO SEE HERE."

It just gives this vibe that Troy is trying to say "THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING... NOW LET'S MOVE ALONG, NOTHING TO SEE HERE." Private matter that Beth chooses to keep private and the university is honoring her request I think there are 2 types of questioners here. 1) Those who are curious and are basically asking, in a rhetorical manner, "what is going on?" and 2) those who hope somebody will spill the beans and tell us all what's happening. I think those in group 1 realize they won't receive an answer but are kind of thinking out loud. I too wondered the reason for the resignation and why it was handled in the manner it was, but I realized that unless the school or Coach Mullins made a statement, anything on here would be gossip. So be it. If an announcement is forthcoming, we'll know, if not, we can only speculate and that isn't productive. Those in group 2 really want an answer. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but I don't think it will be coming from any official source. If so, it would have been part of the official retirement communications.

Some people are very responsible, organized and mature by age 30. Plus they likely have a high energy level and a strong desire to succeed and make their mark. Plus they may relate well with their players and recruits. I think Coach Smartt is blessed by growing up in a playing and coaching family plus has already committed several years to Troy as a student, player and coach. Hopefully we will get more insight as the co-coaches navigate this season.

If her resignation is about a medical issue, I wish her a speedy recovery. Never easy dealing with health issues. Best of luck coach.

It's none of your business. It's none of any of our business, regardless of whether we donate or buy tickets or anything else. Just pray for her and wish her the best.

We can not keep dropping these conference games against teams with RPI much worse than ours. IMO, the coaches are not making good decisions and I think if Mullins was in the lead this would not be happening. We continue to bat people with a less than .200 BA and we have people on the bench that have actually played a full season and had a higher average. Somebody go knock on these coaches doors and tell them to get the Liberty transfer in this lineup. Libby Baker pitched a great few games at Coastal, but she was clearly out of gas, and we just leave her in to lose the game. If we don't have a #3 pitcher, then recruit better.
There is no question that we need to do a national search for the best coach available. Yes we beat a few Power 5 schools (middle to bottom of their conferences), but we can't drop the 4 games we have to crap schools.
And, we lost Annie Willis to the transfer portal and she shutout the Gators for Miss State. We could have Annie Willis, Johnson, and Baker on this team right now. There are no excuses of them being young. They had all the starters return, except Webb, so win the games you are supposed to win. UL is way down this year in talent compared to previous years, so go out there and win the games. No more excuses.
