Has anyone else had any experience with ordering gear from the university bookstore and had a poor experience?
For Christmas this year, all I really wanted was a new great looking Troy hoodie. I haven’t bought one in a very long time and its definitely time for an upgrade. I went through the athletic department webpage which of course takes you to the university bookstore website. I chose four different hoodies that I liked and gave the list to my husband to choose. It ended up that 3 of the 4 weren’t even in stock which left him with one option which he ordered on December 9th.
Fast forward to today when I called the bookstore to inquire about the order and why it had not been sent and why we hadn’t received any communication. After about a 10 minute search, they come back to tell me they also don’t have that one in stock and likely won’t be getting anymore in. So here I am still wishing I could find a good looking Troy hoodie still, with no options in sight.
To say that I’m frustrated with the lack of quality gear by Troy is an understatement. But in reality that’s just been par-for-the-course for the last 20 years. I’m to the point where I’m just going to give up bc it’s something I feel many in the fan base have been saying for a long time only for nothing to happen.
I guess I’ll just keep on wearing my tattered, worn down, out of date hoodie for another 10 years until I can’t wear it anymore. 🤷🏻♂️

Unfortunately I had a similar experience. My daughter ordered a tailgate chair however it never arrived. When she checked they said it was out of stock and didn’t know if or when they would get more. No email or other notice. We later visited the store when we were on campus, found a nice chair and used my Alumni Assoc discount and got it at a good price also found found a nice new hat. It does seem that they struggle with online sales but they do have nice nice items if you can visit in person.

Cornhole had a similar experience with Tulane U bookstore two years ago. ‘ Hole ordered a nice logo’d jacket for his TU graduate son and went thru hurdles to get it shipped. Customer no service seems the norm.

They have some hats from the brand the game but are not in stock.
It’s really easy to just take these items down from the website. (You would think.)

About mid way through the season, I went to the bookstore, hoping to find a classic fleece hoodie. By that, I mean I wanted a hooded sweat shirt that had, on the front, TROY and below that, the Power T logo. After searching for a while and not finding anything like that, I had the occasion to speak with a guy that I believe is the manager: if not the manager, he's at least involved with inventory control. I told him what I was looking for and this is a condensed, paraphrased version of what he said.
Most of the inventory items and quantities are NOT determined by any one in the bookstore. Someone(s) at Barnes and Nobles picks the items as well as the quantities. The goal is to increase the variety of items available (which has been accomplished), but that limits the numbers of any one item. Often times, when an item is sold out, it will not be replaced. The bookstore management would like to have more classic, not necessarily retro, but classic, type items and would like to have larger quantities of newer items, such as the best selling of the performance polos, but they have little input into inventory.
Much as is the case with a lot of things TROY. Our limited resources mean we have to compromise and, at least metaphorically, make deals with the Devil. Overall, the association with B&N has been good for TROY but that association also limits the amount of control at the University level. Good or bad, TROY lacks the fan base and alumni support to make a business such as J&M Bookstore (Auburn) viable. Maybe one day we will be able to have those kind of toys, but just as a 30 yo recent college grad doesn't have the resources to own a Gulfstream III and must pay his dues and advance in his career to do so, we must do the same. Maybe one day, one of the young entrepreneurs on this board will establish TROY's version of J&M Bookstore.

I’m not a lawyer but The internet told me trademarks are to prevent you from selling. You could make your own and not get in trouble. Again, I’m not a lawyer but since all I find at the bookstore is small sizes, I have had a shirt made from the Internet that just says Troy on it.

Not bookstore related, but these bad boys are out there in a dark alley of the internet. I highly doubt they are licensed. I’m not posting a link but if you really want these, use your google skillz and find them.

Bookstore online ordering is terrible. I had some issues when I ordered online a few years ago....never got anything and took a while and was told they were out of stock yet they never notified me. Since I moved to Troy 21 months ago I get quality items at Heritage 1843 on the Square in downtown Troy or at Eagle Eye Outfitters in Dothan. If you are looking more for T shirts and Sweatshirts see Shannon Collins and his staff at Screentech. Bookstore has some nice new stuff, only here in the store and not on line, as I was in there a few weeks ago checking out their selection of Peter Millar.....expensive but high quality products. Go Trojans!
