Wow...I bet those are some of the same sentiments that fans had when they heard that Blakeney was coming to the Vet... Chizik was never a good coach. He's been mediocre to bad everyone he's been. Auburn's 2010 NC was a product of Cam Newton and Gus Malzhan. He is not a good coach. Coach LB had no such track record when he was hired.

Not that my opinion matters, but I have my eye on a current SEC coordinator that I would love to see come to Troy as head coach. Of course right now we have a coach and are going to get conference title number 6 this year.
I think I'll have a beer.

The SEC is the toughest football conference but I would rather get a proven head coach than a coordinator. Malzahn, Freeze, Myer, Saban all proved themselves as Head Coaches at other levels and were proven winners. For instance my old teammate Steve Campbell. He has never had a losing season..and won two national championships at two different levels. I would take that kind of proven ability over some unproven SEC coordinator..but that's my opinion. Just because one is a good coordinator does not mean he will be a great head coach. Totally different responsibility and parameters. Can he manage a staff, is he a leader, can he surround himself with good assistants etc.

Chizik may not have been a good HC in Iowa but he surrounded himself with people that caught lightning in a bottle. That can't be taken from them...TROY won't get many wiffs at a BC$ championship HC. That can't be brushed aside.

Just because a coach has coached at some bigger school or conference doesn't mean he's anything special. There is a list a mile long to prove that. I'll trust JH! :-)

Whether or not he has a winning record is irrelevant, at this point. He has a BC$ trophy...how many HCs in the SBC have one?

He has a ring and national exposure. The recruits would come running to us if he was our coach and I get it Troystet you like Campbell. I just think Chizik would be a big time coach. I'm not saying he's the best coach but I don't think he gets enough credit for the NC and I know this is all speculation lol I support CLB 100%

Several great assistants have made lousy head coaches. Robert Maddox at Troy, Charlie Weiss, Joker Phillips etc.

That season doesn't cancel out he is a losing coach overall. Winning record is irevelant??? What else matters??? So one great season cancels out 10 bad seasons???

He lived off of Tubbervilles and Malzahn. Malzahn left and his recruiting class was horrible

That would imply that you or I would've added Chizik as our OC...which, in turn, brought Cam to aub land...I'm pretty sure I couldn't've done that...maybe you could've done it though.

St....but that's speculation lol

Todd Dodge was a successful HS HC... So was Gerry Faust lol but so was Malzahn and Hugh Freeze. Problem with Dodge and Faust was they had no college experience. Malzahn, Freeze, Blakney all were succesful HS coaches but also got college experience so they understood the role of assistants, recruiting, and the day to day operations. I still like the idea of a coach proving himself as a head coach at some level and being a succesful asst coach also.

This thread has gone sideways... Not for Cam but for many others in previous years I did know a "bag man"? What does that prove? We all have thoughts and that's all they are!
