If I’m not mistaken Arkansas state designed the student section to get very close to the opposing teams bench! I never went to MTSU And he said that was the most difficult place to play for him! my time at Troy myself and a group of 15 to 20 sat directly behind the opposing team and coaches that was in late 90s early 2000. At the James Madison playoff one of the players mothers infiltrated our group and tried to throw shade at us. It was a bad day for her and her son. Her son was on the OL and was getting destroyed. It definitely makes a difference the closer you get

The student section is behind the visitor’s bench, from the fifty to the beginning of the band section and you’re right, they make an impact. I watch them lean over the rail for an entire game screaming at our opponent. Moving the visitors to the upper deck would allow other Troy fans the opportunity to do the same on the north side of the 50, making the entire 100 yd sideline an unfriendly place.

I have seats in 107 next to the student section. Over the past three years I have watched the section almost turn into a visiting fans section. Great seats. Great price. Time to take it back.

Arkansas St was very thorough with their heckling. They had sheets printed up with players names, family members, and girlfriends. This was about 8-10 years ago. I’m not sure if they are that into it anymore.

I totally agree with moving the student section right behind the opposing bench. That is where is should be. Never understood it being where it was. I know my daughters first year in SOTS they had a issue with some drunk frat boys coming over and trying to take their instruments and pulling on their helmets. It was a mess.

My daughter had the same problem with drunk football players grabbing her instruments at a local bar.
Those "frat" boys (greeks) make up about 80% of the student section.
Saw a former football player yelling the F word multiple times in front of children and I mean yelling on the lower concourse a few games ago and he was hammered.
Frat boys ain't the only ones that get sloppy @$$ drunk. That's my point here.

Anybody going to Oxford for this game? My wife and I are considering it since we live pretty close.

Anybody going to Oxford for this game? My wife and I are considering it since we live pretty close. We are. Already booked Saturday night at the Best Western Plus in Tupelo. From my quick search looked like Olive Branch, MS on the state line below Memphis had numerous options for an overnight stay, but heading in the Alabama direction Tupelo was the closest (about 45 minutes to Oxford) city with availability. HOPE we have a good crowd to travel and witness the HCJS ERA👍🏼

Anyone thinking about staying in Memphis? I've always wanted to stay at The Peabody and this might be the chance. Also, I have never been to Memphis, so maybe Graceland is in order. I just need to convince the wife that it can be a vacation and not just a football trip.

This will be be my third visit. Rendezvous for the ribs - you must eat here in Memphis.

City also has Sun Studios and Stax records with great tours and info on early rockabilly and soul music. The Peabody has the Duck Walk (even if not staying there). The Pyramid has a cool observation deck with great views of the city and river. The Lorraine Motel is the infamous site of MLK’s assassination with a moving Civil Rights exhibit. South Main has lots of cool shops and restaurants. Don’t forget Beale Street for a little nightlife. And go down to the river too. You can walk or bike over the mighty Mississippi. Great city to visit if you haven’t. (Can you tell I used to live there?) 😀😀

All good Memphis BBQ joints, Rendezvous was first, just a short walk down an alley from The Peabody.
