Sun Belt has come a long, long way. I don't want to diminish those Troy Teams From 2006-10 but the Conference was really weak then. WKU, UNT and FIU were three of the worst teams in the country and we use to whip La La like a step sister. Things started changing really around 2010 and when App St and GATA came in the conference went to whole new level. We are heads and shoulders above the MAC, C-USA, and MWC conference and with UCF, Memphis and Cincy leaving AAC IMO The Sun Belt becomes the #1 G5 conference

Sunbelt Commish Keith Gill and the member school's AD's decided to play as full a schedule as possible. IT was a huge task for ADBJ and the other AD'S to maintain a schedule but it paid off "hugely" in terms of TV and national exposure. H#ll, those sportscasters lavished over Sunbelt Teams and games; it was the ONLY payday several of them had at times that season. Lotta Credit to Commish Gill, the AD's, Coaches and players who suffered through numerous schedule hiccups, Covid Testing, distancing and other challenges. But in paid off big time for The Sunbelt!!

People watched the Belt and found some good ball. I am not sure but did we get 5 years of doing well by being literally the only show in town while people begged for something normal. Great point Cornhole last year was a bonanza for publicity for the Belt

As of now appears solid Marshall, USM, ODU and JMU. Will shift Troy to the west, with Louisiana, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, Louisiana Monroe, Texas State, and South Alabama. A distinctly different "flavor" from the east, which has James Madison, Old Dominion, Marshall, App State, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Southern, and Georgia State.

If you told me in 2012 “in 2021 we’ll have 2 halves to the conference” And not a single one of those teams were in the conference already, and all but 1 were FCS in 2012…. Crazy times we’re living in!

I agree that Marshall is outdated in terms of facilities, but any time I look at that monstrosity of a design in Monroe I think about how much better any other stadium is. View AttachmentView AttachmentSame designer that did ULM must have done Delta St also lol Have you seen our home side? Might be worst in DI.

Since the new iteration of the Sunbelt is much more eastern, is there any chance we could trade Texas State and cash considerations to the CUSA? They need a dancing pardner for UTEP now and I have just the right dump in mind. We could bring in virtually anyone else and it’d be an upgrade.

We keep talking about East and West. What if we go North and South instead? Marshall, ODU, James Madison, App, Coastal, ULM and Ark State in the north, UL, USM, Jan Nation, TROY, GA ST, GATA, and TX State in the south would work well geographically and, I think, from a competition stand point (I'm trying to go off of geographic memory, it might be that ULM is farther north than say Coastal, so some minor tweaking might be in order). I'm just trying to think outside the box, shake things up a little, and generate some new excitement.
One more thing that has nothing to with the above. I really like the fact that Marshall is, apparently, joining the Funbelt. I'm a sap, I get it. I'm also old, and i get that too (so are some of you and some of you will relate to this). I was 9 years old in 1970 when the Marshall football charter crashed. I vaguely remember that event, and remember thinking how could an entire FB team be gone in a flash (a few years later I would relive that same sickening sense of disbelief and sadness when Skynyrd's plane went down. That's a different story for a different day BUT the events are similarly seared into my memory) I remember feeling an incredible sadness over the Marshall event. Because of this, I have a tremendous amount of respect for the people of Huntington, WV, and what they endured and prospered through. "Out of the ashes we rise" is more than a catch phrase and I, for one, look forward to competing against a school with that history of overcoming such adversity.
If any of you young bucks in here aren't familiar with Marshall's story, find it, read it, and watch the movie "We Are Marshall". It'll change the way you view that program.

AFter actually looking at a map, I realize that it matters not if the conference is divided E/W or N/S, the divisions come out almost identical. Flip Ark State and Coastal and they are identical divisions. So much for my genius idea.

Our biggest problem recruiting against App St in particular (other than their beautiful campus setting) is they pack the stadium every game. Best fan base in The Sun Belt hands down. We on a really, really good day might 3/4 fill the stadium (not announced attendance). Players like to play before packed stands. One of the highlights of my Troy career was playing UCF in the Citrus Bowl in 1988 in front of the still record D2 crowd of 40,000. Get back to winning and get attendance up. We were on the right trajectory during Neal. The App St game in 2017 (?) the crowd was electric. I still remember the Miss St game in 2012 and watching Ok St in 2007 and Missouri in 2004 and what the crowd was like. Got to get back to that to compete in this new conference. JMU draws very well also.

It’s a surreal feeling when you are there and thinking about what they town and University went through. They have my total respect. If we end up with all four schools I think the Sun Belt will reach new heights.

Pretty awesome career bookends… As I step back, how blessed I’ve been - in general, to be a Trojan, and to represent my school as an athlete! Go TROJANS!! As

We beat them in the semi finals in 1987 to go to the Nat Championship game. We came in #1 in 1988 and they were #3. They hyped the crap out of it as the revenge game. It was electric. It was also the noise penalty game. We were running no huddle way before it became popular but we called the plays at the line and each play had a designated snap count. We couldn't hear the Play call or snap count. They penalized then twice for excessive crowd noise. Imagine that happening now. I wish we could get back to playing them again. It was a good rivalry. We had 27 players from Florida on the travel squad when we played them and from Miami to Pensacola (no USF, FAU or FIU) and UCF was just getting rolling. They actually started D3. They offered me but their facilities outside of the Citrus Bowl were awful. Davis FH was the Taj Majal compared to what they had for practice lol

An all chair-back lower-bowl would be a substantial upgrade. 1) Not building new bathrooms during the expansion in order to create a full field length concourse was dumb. That concourse is so crowded, you can hardly move around 2) As an occupant of the bench back seats, I'd absolutely be willing to some additional premium for chair backs. Upper level chair backs are $300 a seat, lower level bench backs are $200 a seat, each requiring a Warrior Club donation. I'd be very willing to split the difference and pay $250 a seat for chair backs down low.

I like the fact we are being aggressive and sitting back getting lost in the shuffle. Mtsu is terrible I cant stand them their stadium is terrible sure ours looks pieced together but it is better than that place. They stole their colors from Memphis. I was at the 95 UCF Troy game. Rowell and Dante culpepper going back and forth it was awesome. I like the addition of Marshall. That may give us an opportunity to get rid of Southwest Tx st. I hope it works out with the plan Jmu travels well I remember the 2000 playoff game. College football is kind of like a whirlwind right now. I just hope Troy doesn't get left out. Oh yeah Fire Chippy

I was in the SOTS at that game. Coldest football game of my life! I had four layers on under my uniform and I was still freezing. I don't know how y'all got out there to play a football game. I know you're an athlete and a sportsman, and you don't make excuses and stuff, but I always thought the fix was in on that game. There was one really bad call I remember involving Orlando Parker where they said he went out and back in to get a pass. I couldn't believe what they were saying.
