Ansley has his unit flying around the ball tonight. It's not a surprise.
In 2018, he was hired by the Oakland Raiders to be their defensive backs coach, becoming the highest-paid defensive backs coach in the NFL.His unit improved from five interceptions in 2017 to 14 in 2018. The following year, he was hired as the defensive coordinator at Tennessee. His defense improved from 77th in total defense to 23rd.
Sorry, the JMU guy makes me yawn. Plus, he ain't coming to Troy.

Ok he is a great DB coach. Does he have the intangibles? 1) is he discipline oriented or another " players coach" ? 2) is he organized and attention to detail oriented? 3) can he build a staff and run it? 4) can he recruit? 5) will he build players on and off the field? 6) can he manage a game? 7) can he connect to students, alumni and donors? . These are questions that need to be asked of every candidate. If Ansley checks the boxes then he is a fit. If one box is not checked then next to him and any other candidate. More to being a HC than your coaching resume ask Ron Zook, Charlie Weiss and the last Tenn Coach

A head coach is not so much about X and O, but about management. Ansley in the NFL has been all X and O. How will he handle graduation rates and all of the other issues involved in building men? A head college football coach has to win, but also build great men for society.

He is a walking example of character. And FWIW: I just defend him just to defend him. The whole thing is a total crap shoot. I really think Dear Leader thought he could get lucky, like with LB. Somebody that would stick around for a while. Eventually the coaching carousel bites you pretty hard. Look at ArkState. They got lucky three times. It'll happen at Myrtle Beach and SWLA. With us, we survived one rotation with NB.

If he checks off the boxes needed for our HC then I will be 100% behind him or whoever we hire. I admit I didn't like the NB hire but whithin a week seeing what he was doing and the changes he was making I was blown away and he kept impressing me with the little things and attention to detail. I hated the (The HC we don’t speak of) hire and it has gotten worse. When I hear the two words "players coach" I cringe. Some other "players coaches" Barry Switzer, Dennis Erickson, Jimmy Johnson etc (at least they won) but they destroyed their programs
