I would like to see Troy get a fresh start. I'm beginning to get tired of hiring coaches with Troy ties. Shane Meade and Scott Cross being hired for baseball and basketball was refreshing.
There are some young head coaches out there that have proven they can be successful at the G5 level, but for whatever reason it isn't panning out at their P5 jobs.
Here are some head coaches that have a somewhat high likelihood of being fired this season:
Scott Frost, Nebraska Jeff Brohm, Purdue Mike Norvell, Florida State Manny Diaz, Miami
Would you take any of them?

Would you take any of them? If they do get fired, each of these guys will get millions and millions of dollars in buyout money. They would not come to Troy next year. If they got fired there most likely route back into football is wait a one or two season and get a coordinator job at a power 5 school making more than what they would make at Troy.

I have an insider at Nebraska that tells me Frost has 1 more year ! The admin In Lincoln likes him and his vision ! Although the fan base is frustrated the athletic department is being patient!

Everyone is upset but they are being competitive this year so some hope. So in that Nebraska is a LOT different then we are here at Troy

I agree about hiring someone coming up.
I like any of the top FCS coaches right now, whether it be James Madison, SDSU, NDSU, or Sam Houston.

Let's say that we wake up and actually want to be a premier G5, what are the thoughts about Luke Fickell at Cincinatti?

Let's say that we wake up and actually want to be a premier G5, what are the thoughts about Luke Fickell at Cincinatti? Well he has a top 10 team and makes $3,400,000 a year. Crowe's chicken and Hook's BBQ would have to step up their game to get him to take over a dumpster fire and take a $2,500,000 pay cut for some good bbq and fried chicken lol

I think Troy's version of "waking up" would be to hire a top 10 OC or DC.
Someone like Tony Elliot at Clemson or Brian Ferentz at Iowa.
Luke Fickell came to Cincinatti from a very good Ohio State program, and we see how that's going. (The HC we don’t speak of) came from a very not-great Auburn program and we comparitively see how that's going.

I mean Hawkins will hire whatever coach is on sale and about to be put in a dumpster.

What about Grass at JSU or hell the guy from Presbyterian? Rule of thumb: if you don’t know the guys name, it probably not a good suggestion.

Was being sarcastic because his style would be disastrously bad for the FBS (or not idk). What are your thoughts on John Grass, he has beaten a fre FBS teams and JSU is competitive. Ignore the rivalry and look at his resume, it is not that bad

Hawkins will take the discount route, for sure.
John Hartwell must've been the only AD with balls to tell Hawkins to ante up more money for coaches.

Kevin Kelley, He's the guy that doesn't punt, always onside kicks, goes for two. Was at an Arkansas High School and then Presbyterian gave him a chance this year.

It's all statistically based. If you've got decent players, it should work.

In the meantime last 10 years we have 3 winning seasons. Like I told people in the know when Larry was retiring, either put up the money or move back to FCS. CNB was hired. Time again to belly up with the money and at least try and get Ansley. I'll even bet even money that Vic will. Ansley has been a DC at Tennessee so he has experience and he loves coaching. As it was mentioned on another post, if he can coach prima-donnas in the NFL, 18-22 year old young men should not present any major dilemmas.

Does he have the organizational skills, the attention to detail, the ability to build a staff? The HC at JMU is a proven winner and know how to both rebuild and maintain a program and is making $425K. Bring him to Troy and double his salary and we know exactly what we are getting. He has rebuilt programs and kept JMU at the top (something (The HC we don’t speak of) has proven to not be able to do). You don't have to pay $1,000,000 to get a coach that wins necessarily. There are hungry, proven coaches that would love to have the facilities and tradition we have here.

Just because you are a great HC at JMU doesn't mean it will work here.
