Does anyone have any thoughts on the head coach of North Dakota state. Matt Entz. They are awesome to watch and his base salary is only 425,000 Everything I've heard about him gives me no impression he would ever want to leave. He's treated like Saban up there. Good coach but all he had to do was what (The HC we don’t speak of) and Biden couldn't do (not screw up a good thing). The tradition and machine were already established. Rabid fan base, main city in the Dakota's, pack the Dakota Dome and they win. FCS right now is so dilluted that they are the machine. If JMY and Sam Houston St go FBS they are going to totally dominate FCS

There is so much more that goes into being a good head coach than schemes, experience, and current success. You need the intangibles of a great leader or CEO. The attention to detail. Organization and discipline in their approach to the game. How well will this guy fit at Troy? Can he put a staff together that can recruit the key areas for Troy. Relationships with high schools and coaches on those areas. Can this guy make the Troy donors open up their wallets and support the program. Troy is a very unique university and the requirements to win at Troy are different. As they are at most schools.

Neal built a solid frame. Next needs to finish the house. That'll take some money for sure.

Prime example of hiring a someone because he is from your state. He had two losing seasons at Chattanooga and Akron hires him because he was from Ohio. Sound familiar??

One losing season at Chattanooga but was also a successful Lower divsion coach at John Carroll, where he was 40-8.. That head coach experience thing you always talk about.

Akron, he's a proven winner 🤔 kind of like Hawkins going CL has had 7 jobs in 8 seasons, fired from last one...yep, he will make a great HC. And John Carroll is Mount Unions whipping boy up there. I'm originally from up there

I think somebody said Pete Shinnick at UWF so I looked him up. Won a D-II national championship in 2019. Should have good connections with high schools in the regions close by. The more I look at him the only fault he has is that he has only ever coached at the NAIA and D-II level.
Not sure if they were joking or not.

He got hired as their coach in 2016 playing intramural football and in 2017 he takes them to the D-2 National championship and loses a close one. Then in 2019 wins it all. In the same amount of time (The HC we don’t speak of) dismantled the best g5 program out there, Shinnick built a team, went to 2 championships and raised a trophy.

Not trying to derail the thread, but, could there be any possibility at all that our admins are waiting for the Scott Frost situation to play out?

Good thing is he doesnât seem like the kind of guy who would skip town a few seasons in at 56 years old.

Only thing about Shinnick I would pull a whoa about is that in Florida there is a trunk load of talent for the D2 guys to stay close. Good town on the coast. Getting that talent at the D2 level quickly from Southeat Georgia and Alabama and Florida makes the job a great deal easier than at Chadron St in western Nebraska as an example. Not saying his job was easy but at that level a “good coach” can swing up pretty fast and not necessarily equate to be able to do the same thing at the D 1 level

Guy is a great coach but West Florida is the only D2 school in Florida and a alternative to a player that doesn't want to go to a HBCU (FAMU or Bethune). The only competition they have recruiting is Valdosta St and D2 only allows 35 total scholarships so players have to get grants or loans and it is much cheaper to pay $125 an hour in state tuition vs $350-$500 out of state tuition. They also get transfers down that play immediately. Their qb is a FCS transfer

As to present head coach. Looking at games to play in conference and schedules the very most eligible for bowl will be 5 in all likelihood and more likely just 4. There is outside chance of 6 but that is not happening. So if we win one game we are in a bowl. Oddly enough I think we upset Louisiana. Call me insane but we lose the last two and both Georgia State and us go 6-6. Is that great. For (The HC we don’t speak of) it is his high water mark. Go to bowl and get (The HC we don’t speak of) to leave. As that hideous Winn Dixie commercial says WINN WINN!!

Neil Brown. WVU is 4-5 with Texas and Kansas State left to play. He is very much on the hot seat with a 9-14 conference record during his tenure.
If WVU let’s him go, we would be stupid not to bring Neil back.

We could win out or we could lose out, lots depends on who is the QB. Itâs clear that Powell can not lead this offense and throws pics! Iâm not a huge Gunner fan but he moves the offense and protects the ball! IMO both (The HC we don’t speak of) and Brandon are getting outcoached! (The HC we don’t speak of) canât adjust to what defenses are doing and we are not productive in the second half! Brandonâs defense gives up a lot of points in the second half I think we are winning on talent alone! I am always happy for a W however the wins against Tx St, Ga Sa and South Have been painful to watch!

I agree but I also think he left too soon. We were at the top of the Belt but not unshakable. We still needed that national recognition that as the very top of the G5, maybe if we’d beaten Boise. I don’t know many who would turn down the deal West Virginia offered. Unfortunately coming back to Troy would not be good for his career after what CL has done to our program.
