Troy took care of business in Week 1. Onward to Week 2: vs. Liberty.
Liberty is favored by 5.5 points.
I believe Hugh Freeze is an excellent offensive coach. He has taken a second string SEC QB into a potential 1st round NFL pick. Defense is strong also. This will be a tough test. Troy does have the pieces on the field to pass this test. If Troy wins, this could propel the mindset and trajectory of this season to a whole lot of wins. If we lose a close one and fight throughout we could still recover and have a good season. This is a early pivotal game. Go Trojans.

I think this game could go either way. However, one stat that jumps out at me that I think could make a difference in this game is penalties. Troy had only 3-25 yards and Liberty had 12-98 yards. I realize this is only one game but this is a good sign for the Trojans this early in the season. Hopefully we can play this clean come Saturday and if so..I like our chances!

To piggy-back off that, there were 0 while the starters were in the game. From watching our game and Liberty's, I like our match-up against their offense. I cannot overemphasize the re-hire of Coach Pogue. I predict we blow the top off the back-end of their defense...more Reggie Todd...Let's go 1-0 again this week.

Pogue is probably the biggest thing that's happened to the defense since (The HC we don’t speak of) was hired.
I desperately hope our defense can contain Malik Willis though. He's one of the best dual-threat QB's in the country. He'll kill us if he's able to break containment on 3rd downs and run for conversions.

This week will be a test no doubt.
I love the QB play. WRs/TEs looked strong and Tez is stepping up and I'm hoping Todd shakes the rust off and gets going this week like he is capable of. Defense looks hungry and I'm seeing glimpses of (dare I say it)...TMTDM.
One of my biggest concerns is a carry over from last season -- our run scheme seems off. Seems like our RBs our consistently getting hit at the line of scrimmage and preventing bigger ypc. It looks like the OL can get it done and the RBs are more than capable - but our running game just isn't producing like it could.
Lastly, I would love to see some explosive plays from the Special Teams be an emphasis this year. Block a punt or FG, set up a good return, something. Channel the spirit of Sherrill Busby and get after it.

Willis is a special talent. The practice squad is important whoever is going to mimic him in practice. I'm not sure if KJ or Carlton will be assigned to spy him during the game. That will be a huge task. I feel we have better depth to do that. The dual threat QB has been a bugaboo for Troy in the past.

That will be a huge task. I feel we have better depth to do that. The dual threat QB has been a bugaboo for Troy in the past. We have been able to handle most of them under Brandon Hall. The Southern QB was a dual threat guy. MTSU's QB was as well. We've been able to keep Georgia Southern's QBs contained pretty well. None of them are as good as Willis, but our scheme seems to do ok versus those types of offenses.

I have been a big negative Nelly on Coach Hall - BUT - year 2 improvement over year 1 was VERY good. I have to tip my hat to him, our defense improved as the season went on last year - hence a close game with Coastal.
Adding Coach Pogue will/has helped.
I don't think we lose because of the Defense we play this week.
We lose - because we can't keep the ball away from them. Our offense has to either score a lot or have long sustained drives. If Willis gets more than 8 possessions per half - they will be hard to beat. 10 possessions per half may be the number in today's football world but he can't have it more than 16 to 20 times.
I think special teams can be the difference. Someone mentioned earlier more aggressive special teams- blocked punt, fg, pat - I agree - could be a real difference in this one.
Hugh Freeze will be ready - will we?
Looking forward to this one
Great atmosphere always on Military appreciation day
Flyover - that USA 🇺🇸- military members - played on 9/11 - should be one of the best days ever at THE VET
see you all there

TROY TROJANS (+6) VS. LIBERTY FLAMESProjection: Troy +1.9 Troy will be a tough test for a Liberty team that ranked dead last in strength of schedule in 2020, per my ratings. There aren’t a ton of takeaways for either team after Week 1, considering they both handled FCS opponents with ease, but Troy has what it takes to keep this one close with efficient units on both sides of the ball. The Trojans' defense ranked 15th in PFF team grade, fielding a ninth-ranked pass-rushing unit, as well. Troy returns almost everyone from last year’s unit, as well, including all players who generated more than one sack and 86% of the team’s total sacks from 2020. Liberty did not play a single top-50 pass-rushing unit by PFF grade last year until the bowl game versus Coastal Carolina, where it allowed 13 pressures on 41 dropbacks. Flames quarterback Malik Willis has the mobility to evade pressure, but Troy could have him under duress here. On the other side, Troy should be able to find some success against a Liberty defense that was largely untested last season. The Trojans weren’t an explosive team in 2020, but they ranked in the top 50 in terms of play success rate and drive success rate. Quarterback Gunnar Watson played well for the most part last season but was beat out by Missouri transfer Taylor Powell this offseason. Liberty’s run defense was a noticeable weakness last year, and although Troy’s run game did not light the world on fire, it will be interesting to see if the Trojans can consistently find chunk plays on the ground. www.pff.com/news/bet-college-football-betting-2021-best-week-2-spread-picks

Troy getting 6 points at home - hmmmm - I like that - might have to get some of that - and even if I lose I am cheering for the Trojans regardless
I just saw a line at +5 and another at +4.5
I like the line at down to +3 - from a betting perspective
I think we win period. Something feels different to me this year- could be wrong - hope I am right

In addition to all the game festivities, the SGA plans to read all the names of those who perished in the attacks on 9/11. This will be Saturday morning on main Quad.

Our local fire department will be hosting an open house and people will be able to ring the fire bell until it reaches 2,977, which is the number of people that perished. I will be taking little TBB there.

My logic is that Troy lost to these guys the last 2 times they played when Troy was favored to win and quite frankly should have won, and now Troy is favored to lose and probably should lose but they wont. The Trojans WIN!
