The next five years are going to be incredibly important for Troy when it comes to athletics.
Troy can position themselves ahead of many schools by 2025's realignment. It's very important to get football and men's basketball to start winning a lot.
Otherwise, if the AAC decides to take teams like App State, Coastal Carolina, or Louisiana... Troy will be left with the short straw.
I think over the next 5 years, you're going to see a race between SBC and CUSA schools to see who can increase their athletic budget the most, and some schools won't be able to keep up...

This topic with just about all the significant information and speculation is pretty well represented in Bearcatbanter.com There are a good many opinions with this depending on which site or source. AAC, CUSA, SBC, Big 12, SEC, others have a variety of opinions All a bit biased depending on positioning. I think the statement that the next 5 years should be shortened to two but really at our level we may not have much we can do versus other conferences. But perception and being in bed with ESPN can do as much as possible to put us in the best position possible. No one knows what will happen to the two snakes trying to eat each other at this point. BIg12 eating too AAC or AAC eating BIg12? Big 12 has more money at this point with those exit fees but AAC has ESPN behind it or at least tacitly. That ONE battle will dictate what goes on from there. Stability is really key and if our conference stays together and adds USM and Marshall for instance we will probably be in best spot we can. APP is a possible as Marshall for AAC backfill but their choosing to go there is wrought with the possibilities that the attractiveness is going to fade fast on the new girl versus the old reliable. It may just be that those schools and perhaps Georgia State would choose to stick to the lakes and steams they are used too.

It would fill in that little gap in the conference footprint. When I step away from what I would like, I wonder what would USM like? It is a serious question, how could the Sun Belt be intriguing to USM other than potential savings on travel costs?

There currently is a large contingent of USM fans who would like to be in SBC. Plus McClain is over there and that does not hurt as to be familiar with the Belt

That is why we need the right coaches in place.

The rich get richer. Not at all happy about what college football has become. A lot of us will get left behind. Agree that USM, LaTech, Marshall and South Florida moving to the The Belt would be good. Not a lot of thought in that, just saying it fits fairly well and we should also throw Liberty and possibly James Madison in there.
Will be very interesting times ahead.
Go Troy!

I'm sure not all of people reading this will agree. It's hard to be optimistic when it's all dependent on revenue. With the new NIL players will be looking for the best exposure. The P5 will break away and the G5 may still have conferences or it maybe a glorified FCS. The television networks are all looking to make money. It's a painful truth but a Thursday night game between anyone in the SBC/CUSA isn't bringing in the viewers. With that I feel college football is going to change drastically in the next few years.

I wouldn’t mind the G5 becoming a glorified FCS with its own Top25, etc … as long as it really is a glorified FCS and not merging with FCS eventually. Also P5 teams should still schedule G5 teams in this scenario.
