Why enter the portal? Depth chart issues, relationship issues, family issues are the big three that come to my mind!
Minus Terence Dunlap, 9 CBs on roster - Taiyon Palmer transfer from NC State (Portal gives), Zion Williams transfer from Iowa Western (Portal gives), BOTH transfers basically same height with more body mass. Still have O’Shai Fletcher & Reddy Steward with experience.

It’s not like you can’t be the big dog at a G5 and not get drafted really high. So, if he wants to go to a P5 and show out his path of play time might be limited. Lastly the strangest farewell note of all time. Gotta be more to this story.

But I do hate to have arguably our best D-back not being with us.

Dunlap didn’t make this choice. So what are you implying? According to twitter he would be ineligble this season probably due to grades. So it was either stay and sit or go and play somewhere else. Class is on the student-athlete

Class is on the student-athlete Is it just me or did NB and staff do a better job of staying on top of this?. Get sick to my stomach watching these kids throw away a gift...yes gift to both play college football and get a "FREE" college education while their student counterparts graduate with debt or work two-three jobs. Sorry for the rant but I've experienced both sides of it with myself being a student athlete and a daughter graduating HS with a 4.46 GPA in IB and scored a 31 ACT and a son graduating with a 3.85 in AP classes and a 27 ACT and neither got a FREE education. It's just you. Our academic staff does a good job of this, but some student athletes just have a tough time with it. Dunlap was originally found academically ineligible right before Brown and staff left.

I feel bad for Dunlap. Who knows the circumstances of his academics, but ultimately I'm sure he didn't want this to happen... especially after being named to the All-SBC 2nd Team.

Accountability is a tough trait to "want to happen". Maybe his grade school principle was handcuffed by PC disciplinary procedures? Academically ineligible, twice? And he "didn't want it to happen? Time to man up.

I think he was the 1A player of the year for 4 years (or something like that) so he was a Really Big fish in a bird bath. It is likely there was pressure since 6th grade on a kid with talent to Pass and be eligible. When u train someone that no Matter what you do......we just need u to play. Particularly on a small school team. If this was the case once you fall real far behind it is hard to change when people are touting u as a potential draft choice.

Yea. I'm sure the Maplesville High admin department is a real bastion of PC disciplinary procedures. This board cracks me up.

This is not a (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) defense post, take it at face value. At fan day, 2019, I was in line behind Terrance's mom...or at least a woman who was talking to people around us and claimed to be his mom. He had recently been declared academically ineligible for the '19 season. His mom was upset with (The HC we don’t speak of) because HE didn't keep this from happening. She expressed her feelings that HCNB and staff made sure things like this didn't happen, they made sure the guys went to class and made the grades. She placed 100% of the blame for Terrance's situation on (The HC we don’t speak of).
I understand that a staff has to hold the players accountable as it relates to grades and class attendance, but there is a HUGE difference in holding them accountable and MAKING them do what they need to do. These young men have to accept responsibility for their actions, or lack thereof, as it relates to study and class attendance. I got the impression from listening to the conversation that Terrance's mom didn't feel he played any part in his academic ineligibility. Therein lies part of the problem.
I sincerely wish Terrance the best as he continues his football career. If he wishes to play pro ball, I hope he gets the opportunity. More than that, however, I hope he learns from this and becomes a better man because of it.

Yes, those expectations should be set. A man, however, will push himself to exceed expectations if they are set too low. That’s the difference between being mature and not. Lest you think I’m bashing players, just know I was fired once for not being mature enough to do my job like I should have. Ultimate responsibility lies with the player.

And a quite of few others that left on either on their own, weâre asked to leave or left due to personal reasons.

I am curious about his academics. Was he ineligible by Troy standards or NCAA standards? Does the FCS have different rules?
