Don't forget his international Troy University ambitions in Saigon and Hanoi... plus the Confucius Institute that he fervently defends.
Hawkins is a great guy... but it's time for someone new to lead Troy University. The fact that the university's graduation rate this year was behind Alabama State, Alabama A&M, West Alabama, Stillman College, JSU, and Judson College... says MUCH... and this has always been a problem. I believe Troy has a poor and stagnant academic model under Hawkins.
My son started at Troy for a year in Computer Programing (it was a joke) transfered to UCF and now works in NYC overseeing the computer programmers for a large corporation there. My daughter graduated with a Biomedical Science degree from Troy (Biology Dept is sorely lacking). Troy is great for Business, Education and Music but is sorely lagging in Tech and Medical with the exception of nursing. Spot on. The nursing program is one of the best in the state. The education program is well done, at least from what I've heard. But the science/technology program is so bad. Troy is behind in equipment, class space, and other things. The research grant Troy got for plastics was big, but Troy is still moving at a snails pace with that and getting their own building.
Why isn't Troy offering more doctoral degrees? Why aren't we competing to be a research university? I mean, ULM, Georgia Southern, and USA are already moderate/high research institutions that are offering doctoral degrees. That is sad. The rest of the Sun Belt is leaving us behind academically.

Hawkins is only concerned about two things in his twilight 1) Leaving satelite campuses in communist Asian countries and having ties to China here 2) Leaving buildings on the campus as his legacy. We no longer sell an education, we sell a college experience and it isn't working

Well the college experience was better when we were winning football games. Maybe that will turn around and when it does the students are going to be like they use to be. What do I mean by that? I am quite sure after the LSU victory I over heard numerous students screaming and yelling how they were going to get together and have study groups to make sure their grades were on course for graduation. I am quite sure that is what they were saying: now some may say they were screaming that they were going to get drunk. But I am pretty sure it was the former.

But while not graduating the experience was better.

But while not graduating the experience was better. Back in the day ( a long time ago for those who know) we drank, toked, poked and studied regularly enough to graduate in 4 years. We were disciplined with the balance of the aforementioned activities.

We were disciplined with the balance of the aforementioned activities. You really have to wonder? How did most of us graduate in 4 years. Played football, toked, poked, drank and heck even played nude 4 square. Gradumatated and even went on to some more schooling...... Maybe the requirements are tougher these days. Now like Cornholed said: It took discipline and quite a bit of aspirin to get through and destroy that many brain cells at the same time...!!!
