Gonna look weird when you all are trying to replace an 11-1, conference champion head coach. Hi (The HC we don’t speak of)! Welcome to the board!

Some of you want to fire (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of)... only to make an Inside Linebackers Coach at Kentucky our next head coach??
I'm glad you people don't work in Troy's athletic department.
Sumrall for DC? That makes more sense. But you want to jump him directly to be a head coach of an FBS program? Come on, use your brain.

No what some were saying that are way more on the inside than I am, was at the time Sumrall was a better choice because he would have kept the culture the same and possibly kept some assistants that didn't go to WVU. Offensive minds are great but having a coach with defensive experience is nice to. Look at Belichek. His experience was as a DC under Parcells yet his offenses were still great. Would Jon have done better that CL? who knows. Would he have done worse? doubtful

Dabo Swinney, along with being the WR Coach, had already been named the Assistant Head Coach by Tommy Bowden a couple of years before Bowden resigned.
Swinney also had a reputation as one of the top recruiters in the nation.
I also remember how Clemson fans were calling for Swinney to be fired after he went 6-7 in his third year at the helm, even getting beat by 3 TD's against rival South Carolina that year and losing to USF in a bowl game.
Sumrall doesn't have that same kind of experience. He was never an assistant head coach, has never coached at the top P5 programs like Swinney, and isn't currently considered a top national recruiter.

Even if Bowden named him Asst Head Coach and interm head coach, you have to admire the administration and AD for hiring him to full time head coach.

I'm always amazed at how many people try to make the exception into the rule... If it could work with one guy in 10,000 why can't it work for us? I hope these people never go to Vegas. This isn't to say Sumrall could never be a good or even great head coach, I've heard nothing but good things about him. Just not a route I would want to take.

This! Actually, Neal Brown once explained how his years being a coordinator prepared him for the HC job. FB HC means more than just coaching, you are basically the CEO of the entire FB program. No way a young position coach is ready for this without several years of coordinator experience.

Bowden didn't resign. He was fired. ANd you know what else is interesting? Besides being linebackers coach, you know what title Sumrall had? Assistant Head Coach. troytrojans.com/sports/football/roster/coaches/jon-sumrall/1052

There you go again using logic, common sense and just plain ole situational understanding, throwing in some facts. Except his facts weren't facts, they were just wrong. You don't have to be a coordinator to be a head coach. Mosst head coaches don't call plays. They lead teams. Being a coordinator normally means you are a good playcaller. I want a person who can lead the organization, whether it's (The HC we don’t speak of) or someone else.

PJ Fleck, Ed Orgeron, Urban Meyer, Herm Edwards, Jim Harbaugh. Nice list. Touché. Open Letter to Dictator Jones: The next hall of famer coach is wasting away as inside linebacker coach at Kentucky. Do everything in your considerable power to fire (The HC we don’t speak of) Lindsay and hire big Jon S. Do not fail us. His success is guaranteed. Below his resume. I just don't get why everyone says you have to be a coordinator or need head coaching experience before hand! I did like Sumrall and his family. I don't hate (The HC we don’t speak of). I support whoever is coaching at Troy. But would also say he's not wasting away helping coach a top 20 defense.

He was assistant head coach at Troy, LB's coach at UK and is currently Co-DC at UK. The point back then during the hiring process has already been presented, it was the culture and the staff that he would have retained. The biggest part was he was invovled with the recruitment of 50+ of our scholarship players at that time going into last season. No other candidate had that box checked. I'm with FoulPole. I'll support Troy regardless, but since you keep bringing up all the talk about "hiring buddies" and crap, at least get it all correct.
