Because one of my fellow staff members tested positive for COVID19, the FL Dept. of Health came to our facility and tested all employees and our family. The girl before me had an AL mask on and the tester was giving her grief about it and saying he was going to make her test more difficult for wearing that mask because he was a TROY guy. I spoke up with GO TROY! and asked him who he was. It was Labarron Black and I believe he said he played from '97 or '98 to at least '02. He was a running back. I can only find this on him (https://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/schools/troy/2002-roster.html) but was curious to look at all his history. That site seems to start in 2001 and doesn't have a detailed roster before 2002. Does anyone have a good team roster/stat site they could share? Thanks!

Look up Ben On Sports on Twitter, he’s the resident Troy historian. He posts on here too, I think his name is Benneckles on here.

The problem with Sports Reference is that they only have FBS stats. If you're on Twitter, I'll DM you some stats once I get them. If not, I'll try to post them here.

LeBarron Black wore #33 and played from 1999-2002. He rushed for 1,840 yards on 499 carries for a 3.68 yards per carry. He had 15 touchdowns in his career. He is tied for #2 in most rushes in a game, with 41 in 2002 against FAU. LeBarron was one of the first Trojan RBs I remembered, along with DeWhitt Betterson and Demontray Carter....and therein lies the problem. Unlike guys such as Ted Horstead, DeWhitt (to a degree), DuJuan Harris, and Jordan Chunn, LeBarron never really had the backfield to himself. In 1999, he shared the backfield with Phillip Jones, Thad Buttone (that throwback to us actually having a FB), and even Mareno Philyaw. Heck, even Defensive Lineman Al Lucas stole carries in the red zone from him, netting 9 rushes for 18 yards and 5 touchdowns. Black, though, netted 540 of his 1,840 career yards here on 112 rushes with 4 tds. In 2000, Black had to share the backfield duties with Demontray Carter, Thomas Wayne (not Bruce's dad), and again, Thad Buttone. Black's totals dropped on nearly the same volume of carries, only getting 392 yards on 114 carries with 3 tds. In 2001, Demontray Carter concluded his two season career in Troy by again being the featured back, taking all the individual rushing game high marks for the season. This, along with the emergence of DeWhitt Betterson, saw Black's numbers drop significantly, only garnering 151 yards on 63 carries with 0 tds for the year. For his senior season, Black began to see a somewhat more equitable share of the carries, setting the high mark for rushes in a game that season with 41 (as noted above) and the most yards rushing in a game that season with 189, eclipsing his entire 2001 total yards. Had Blakeney used either Black or Betterson exclusively in 2002, they could've potentially had Troy's first 1000 yard season since 1996 and fourth ever, as they combined for 1468 yards. Black finally led the season in yards with 757 on 210 carries and 8 tds. Betterson was more effective on-field though rushing 101 times with 711 yards for an average of 7 yards per carry. Betterson would go on to be the fourth Trojan to rush for 1000+ yards in a season, doing it twice in 2003 and 2004. I hope this helps to give you some insight into LeBarron Black and his place in Troy history. Speaking of Thad Buttone, in those days he dated a girl I worked with at a local pharmacy. He was visiting her one day and saw a dude steal film (yes camera film was high dollar back in the day). He grabbed the thief, held him against the wall and kept him there until the local PD showed up. It was awesome, pretty sure the thief wet himself.

That would suck to steal film and get hit by a fullback.
