In a telephone call this week with Congressional leaders and several professional sports executives, NCAA President Mark Emmert outlined how the coronavirus pandemic may dramatically impact the 2020 college football season, according to reports detailing the meeting. As teams in the Bowl Subdivision begin returning to campus following the NCAA’s decision to allow team activities to resume as of June 1, Emmert suggested that the upcoming season may end as early as Thanksgiving, months ahead of schedule. Emmert also described the possibility that some teams in the 130-member FBS may not field a team this season, Rep. Steve Scalise of Louisiana, who hosted the call, told Sports Illustrated.
The possibility that not every FBS team plays in 2020 could throw conference and non-conference schedules into disarray with little time to find other opponents to fill space and have a substantial financial impact on non-conference games for athletics department funding — many teams on the Group of Five level draw seven-figure payouts for games against Power Five competition.www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaaf/2020/06/05/ncaa-president-mark-emmert-coronavirus-college-football-impact/3158778001/

Couldn't the teams without opponents put themselves into a pot and then fill the vacancies from there? For example, if Troy didn't have an opponent the week before Thanksgiving due to the disarray and saw Tulane was in the same boat would the two schools be allowed to play one another to fill the gap?

Stop it. Just stop. You're talking about the NCAA. You've been at this long enough you should know not to try to use logic when they are involved. Just don't do it anymore.

There are 5 FBS teams in Alabama. Let’s play a double elimination tournament with bowl games in state after. The lowest team (south) doesn’t get a bowl.

Could is the operative word. I hope no decision is reached before July 15th. By then if the hospitalization rates and deaths rates keep getting better perhaps that final decision will be more favorable. As to the end of the season it would be impossible to predict a second wave if the virus was continuing to attenuate. To make a decision to end a season early then to find that in the subsequent 4 months that it does not have a second wave at all would be economically beyond stupidity. We have seen that may happen anyway with decisions based on predictions. If not all 130 teams are fielded it will probably be based on political view points and not much in the way guided by science. As long as hospital rates and death rates continue to diminish through out the country. Each month we are learning more and more about Covid-19 and at present it is attenuating. I hope and pray it continues for obvious health reasons and not for football. However, if it does I for one will be thrilled.
The season could always be terminated if there were any signs of increasing virulence.

While we were all hoping that everyone would take a wait and see approach and NOT make any drastic or early decisions... Morehouse has jump started the discussion! morehouseathletics.com/sports/football

I hope and pray it continues for obvious health reasons and not for football. However, if it does I for one will be thrilled. The season could always be terminated if there were any signs of increasing virulence. Well we are approaching that July 15th and just now we are seeing the increase in cases. For what it is worth as the cases markedly increase you can use the following equation to figure out your counties rate and when this will really go thru. The good news most of us in the South should be better by the end of August but the bad news is that it is going to look worse due to cases markedly rising over next few weeks and just scaring everyone. The equation goes like this. Once your county crosses a rate of 20 per 100,000 cases a day for a 7 day period do the following. Take whatever that number is and multiply by 40 (approx. 6 weeks) and then multiply by your counties population as a number of 100,000 individuals. For instance 50K would be 0.5 and 200K would be 2. So this will be the number of cases on the back side of the 6 week rise and fall during your counties surge. Most counties will wind up between 1500 to 2500 per 100,000 cases when you add that number to your present cases. Deaths will be close enough to 0.25 per hundred thousand per day x 40 days x per hundred thousand population. For example: 28 (over a week cases per hundred thousand) x 40 (days in 6 weeks approx) x 2 (200,000 population) = 2240 cases for that time. Add that to present cases (for example 800) and total cases come to 3040. The total then 1520 per hundred thousand. In this example of 28 per 100k for a week, the deaths would be 0.25 x 40 x 2 = 22 added to the number already which (for example is 10) the total deaths comes to 30 and thus at the end of the 6 week period will have 15 per 100K deaths. 80% are which above 65 and nearly 66% in long term health care facilities and literally the rest coming in significant comorbid condition or conditions. The long and short as you hit this mark of 20 per 100K per week to start your 6 week up and down that all places will eventually have this type of surge and concave and rapid decrease from peak. This way you can calculate when your area (county) will be thru the worst and when or if we would be able to have any football. Just looks a little too bleak because till all areas of the country have this it is unlikely that we will have a football season if Oklahoma or anywhere else is not thru their surge.

Guess there is no threat of Covid in the west coast and Arizona?? Can't understand this reasoning You do know! Now what I am about to say maybe mistaken for an Alacrapa compliment. However, thought it was too funny not to say. The farwest USC Spartans are simply.......sheltering in place to avoid getting really ill.... from the Tiluscalooser virus.

JUST curious and would rather ask here than on social media. Any idea of a ROUGH guess on how many football season tickets have been sold for 2020? In my daily reading yesterday, I read where Illinois is still staying positive about this season and part of "their plan" is 20% occupancy at home games. THAT made me start thinking about: a) what would Troy's magical occupancy percentage rate be?, b) what percentage is taken up by season tickets before you start adding students and visitors, c) are we going to have cheering auditions to see which fans deserve to have one of the few seats in The Vet, and the list goes on ...

Fellas, Time to chalk up Football as a no-go for 2020. High school systems are going virtual for fall. Louisiana governor said no high school football until certain criteria are met. Etc. etc. Colleges are cancelling workouts due to virus and non conference games already. The corona wave of fear and craziness is washing over the country, 2020 is done. Time to do some hunting and fishing.

You hunted for a wife once and caught Mrs. Buzz. After you get the 112 point deer not much point to keep hunting.!!! I am a lucky man in that regard that is really true. For those in need of a football analogy, it is where I out kicked my punt coverage by about 99 yards.

I know I was kidding around saying that I was going to not buy season tickets and buy a Rolex instead, but due to the virus, I really am not buying tickets. I have a toddler that I do not want to get sick. The wife and I have both been teleworking for over 4 months now. We have until tomorrow to decide if we are sending our middle school daughter back to school. The numbers are crazy here in the panhandle. I dont know if the virus is more or less of a problem than is being reported, but we are not going to risk it. If all is well for next season, I’ll buy tickets, even if we don’t win a game this season.

Interesting, JUST announced:
“NEW ORLEANS – The Sun Belt Conference announced today that it will delay the first permissible date of competition for the 2020-21 academic year to September 3. The rescheduling of contests due to these adjustments will be determined by each member institution.”
QUESTION: Would you like to guess what the date of the FIRST football game ANY team in the conference plays on !?!
ANSWER: Georgia State opens the season for ALL teams on Thursday, September 3rd and the rest of the teams start Saturday, September 5th 👍🏼
OH! In response to a previous post, I am scheduled to be in my classroom two weeks from today AND AHSAA has said (in the past 24 hours) we are playing high school ball. So, I am planning and STILL hoping there is FALL college football OR those students sitting in my classroom are going to deal with a very grumpy teacher!!!

It could be this kind of season: Jul 24, 2020 4:57 pm ET The entire Michigan State University football team is in quarantine for 14 days after a second staff member and one player tested positive for the new coronavirus, the university said Friday. MSU officials said in a statement that the positive tests were returned following testing conducted on members of the team over the last week. All members of the program will either be in quarantine or isolation, the university said. ------ No doubt this could happen mid-season with other programs
