I'm bored, there's very little, if anything involving football happening except for speculation - which is worth about as much as the paper the speculations are printed on, and I thought I'd throw something out there for fun.
There is a poll on Troy Football Twitter today asking that we pick our favorite 3 Troy games/wins. I want to throw a little spin on this. What are your favorite 3 road games (win or loss) and why. I'm throwing the why in there because sometimes the experience is as good as the game. I'll start.
1) 2001 victory over Mississippi State. There is so much about that trip I remember. In addition to upsetting MSU, there was a tornado warning that interrupted the game for about 45 minutes. After the storm, Rashaun Reed returned an interception 73 yards, through standing water for one of TROY State's 3 TDs on the day. He literally splashed his way to the end zone. We stayed in Columbus and ate at one of the best steak houses I've ever enjoyed - Old Hickory - right across the street from the team hotel, which we stayed in. Finally, unrelated to TSU football, this was the day Derek Jeter made the incredible play vs the A's where he fielded a slow grounder while charging past the mound, back handed it to the catcher to cut down a runner coming from 3rd, and ended up in foul territory. I remember standing in the hotel room watching that play while waiting to go to dinner after the game.
2) 2010 GMAC Bowl vs Central Michigan. Everything about that trip was memorable. We lost in 2 OT in what was as good a game as I've ever seen TROY play in person. Of course, the weather was the star of that trip, with temps the night before at the bowl parade of 18 and temps at kickoff of 28. Oh yeah, Antonio Brown lit us up that night, but I try to forget that detail.
3) 2007 at Georgia. This makes my list not so much for the game (which was good and which saw us claw back late, requiring Georgia to reinsert some starters that had left the game and in which we watched Matt Stafford light us up and Knowshon Mareno, as a Fr, show what he had) but for the trip. We stayed the small town of Madison, about 30 miles from Athens and it was maybe the most enjoyable two nights I've ever spent on a trip. The town was quaint, the shops wonderful, and the food at the two local restaurants we went to was awesome. It was also the night Urban Meyer had his first "heart" issue.
3b) Honorable Mention - 2010 NO Bowl vs Ohio. I mean, it's New Orleans, which really didn't impress me much (for example I'd rather have a Krispy Kreme donut that a Cafe' Du Monde Beignet) but everybody needs to go to New Orleans at least once. It was also the first time TROJAN walk was inspiring. The lobby of the Marriott was raucous that Saturday afternoon.
Ok, I told you I was bored. now it's your turn.
