WR Timmie Gibson has entered the Transfer Portal. This is where the transfer portal is good. This young man has barely been on the field in three years at Troy, is buried on the depth chart. The portal allows him to explore a lower tier school to get playing time and further his career. Good luck young man.

When did football go from a “team” sport to a “Me” sport? College football is a privilege to play and I think some of these kids forget that. Players these days want everything given to them instead of putting in the time, effort and discipline to earn their keep. This isn’t high school football where they were the star athlete 4 yrs in a row. Oh you signed with a Division 1-A school and you thought you were going to start every game your first yr?? Wishful thinking - and because they don’t start they transfer to another school because it’s personal now and their butt hurts. Grass is greener, right? Smh. It’s sad man. A football program doesn’t owe a player a damn thing when they arrive on campus just because they signed with them. Earn it. Don’t cry when your 3rd string and transfer at the end of the season to only sit out 1 yr and become 3rd string again somewhere else.
Or the best reason a player transfers (they don’t say it, but it’s obvious - we’re not stupid) junior yr transfers.....ah man these are the best! They want to transfer hoping they land a bigger school for more exposure their last season and noticed by more NFL teams and scouts. Emhmmm... Marcus Jones and other dude that went to Colorado (cough cough). Other dude is not worth remembering his name bc he posted some stupid BS on Twitter about Troy after he left. Anyways, point being...last I checked when we have Pro Day and throughout the year in general scouts are in and out -practices, games, workouts, etc. If they don’t notice you it’s not your programs fault, it’s yours. How do I know this........perfect example: when I played I was working out in the old Troy weight room in the towers and guess who walked in Bill Bilicheck. Point made. So all these athletes transferring for the wrong reason is doing nothing for them. NCAA needs to reevaluate the transferring portal and the regulations to allow an athlete to transfer.

I’m just saying the head coach gets all the attention when they win and all the blame when they lose. It’s why the position is paid so well.

However the guy I most want to grades squared away and stay is Terence Dunlap. His coming back and playing well is really necessary and would be extremely helpful to our D.

Then change it to coaches have to stay the length of their contract. We blame kids for transfering for various reasons but coaches leave at the drop of a hat for greener pastures. You also have to remember that you are only 18-21 once in your lifetime and you only get to play college football once. Do I like it when a player transfers? As a fan No. As a former player I can understand sometimes the reasoning. People change jobs also. How many people still work for the same company that you went to work for right out of college or school? Very, very few.

When you were in college you (hopefully) made decisions that were in the best interest of your future, and not simply what your group of friends at the time wanted you to do. You're likely running in different circles now than you were then. The point is, when you're enrolled with a program, you're obligated to give 110% to that program everyday. But at the end of the year, if the program is not serving your future interests, it's time to move on. You may criticize transfers for trying to move on to greener pastures, but I see people who are willing to take extreme risks to build the future they want for themselves. Some of their parachutes won't open, some of them will. Some of them will go FCS to get more playing time, and have little NFL potential. Some of them will move up to power five programs in hopes of garnering more NFL exposure. Some of them are being "respectfully" asked to enter the transfer portal by their coaching staffs. No matter what, business decisions are being made, and it's not always some bitter dude thinking he's too good for Troy.
As with any career, college or professional, there needs to be a balance between the needs of the group, and the needs of the individual. If that balance is broken, there are real problems. As a side note, the players they leave behind at Troy do not think they're being let down. The outpouring of support by current players to those who transfer out proves that there are no feelings of betrayal or bitterness. They have life-long bonds between themselves, not simply the institutions they played for. They understand the balance between individual and group. Some of you guys grew up in an area that valued team above all else. We don't live in that world anymore. It's more balanced, and it's much better that way.

If today's Athletes had to endure 3-a-days under hot sun, run mega laps, choke down SAGA fare and sit on a hard bench as in your day, they should get the H$ll out?? and you wonder why discipline is such a problem... just sayin.

Not just in the portal, Mathis is no longer on the team. For reference, every time someone has reportedly entered the transfer portal, they have been immediately removed from the roster.

Most recent example, albeit different sport, is KJ Simon. Entered the portal a year ago, decided to pull his name. Simon was never removed from the roster/program.

There are few things in life that are guaranteed. Combine that with the availability of the portal along with the OVERWHELMING DESIRE TO FOLLOW MANY OF OUR PARENTS ADAGE OF OLD: "WHEN THE GOING GETS TOUGH THE TOUGH GET GOING" Well I don't have a clue to the circumstances but where all of us old folks thought that adage meant suck it up and work harder and persevere todays generation is much more likely to say that the saying means...………...get going!
Don't stick around. These people do not know how special you really are.
Now this may have nothing to do with ANY who have entered but I deal with the mentality regularly of entitlement and parental opinion if the kid gets in trouble with the following attitude: What did you or someone do to my kid. As opposed to when the majority of we old farts grew up that no matter what happened IT WAS OUR FAULT.
Yep times have changed and the portal is filled likely filled with a GOOD percentage of 2 year old mentalities. How do I know this. Look how many are picked up yet have good star ratings etc.
Yep just a bad day or just wanted to get it off my chest. Likewise, to all those guys who do stick around. Congrats you will probably much more successful in life and your folks in general did a good job of raising you to know that LIFE IS NOT JUST ABOUT YOURSELF.
Yep, somedays you just had enough of whiney arse spoiled selfish kids...………… For you guys who know what I do for a living. Yep today is one of those days.

I don't understand 1) why some people always assume to know exactly why every guy who transfers decided to do so (and it's usually that he's lazy and spoiled) and 2) why people treat football different from any other profession or school. No one says we're spoiled when we decide we want to switch jobs or transfer to a different school. I can remember when people would call football coaches "traitors" for moving up to a better job, as if we'd never left for a better job. At the end of the day, it's only entertainment for us. For the student athlete, the decision to transfer often weighs several more factors than just "I'm leaving because I couldn't win a starting spot".
