But seriously, I was happy with the defense. I said in my prediction thread we would win going away which we did and I saw defensive improvements at Missouri. That carried over and let's continue to build on that. I don't care about bad play calling on the goal line. The fact is, the defense stopped them on the goal line. Bad play calling or good play calling, the defense still has to make plays and they did that. Let's beat Georgia State and claim our place right behind App in the standings. We can take care of them in November.

After throwing up in my mouth and swallowing my own vomit watching Troy play it’s first games of the season, last night was a massive improvement. I was glad to see for the first time this season Troy show improvement. The defense actually had stops, which it hadn’t before. The defense recovered turnovers including a pick six. The defensive improvement was admittedly, surprising. The offense played well enough to win despite spotting the opposition a touchdown and a field goal from its reoccurring turnovers that still haunt this team. For me sitting in section 110, the two things that stood out was our offensive line play opening holes for our run game and the time our QB had to pass from the pocket. Our players on the sideline looked confident throughout the game. Finally. USA has a buttload of work to do this season, admittedly. But maybe our team is finally becoming what we expected it could be this year Offensive line did an absolute amazing job protecting and run blocking. I have never seen a qb have as much time to sit back in the pocket. What was troubling and I couldn't see on TV was why he eventually had to tuck it an run sometimes like recievers weren't getting open. It looked like they played man a lot and were dropping 8 sometimes. Also was Todd injured. I didn't see a lot of him second half. Very encouraging to get a run game established again but the INT's we have to work on Yes they dropped 8 A LOT and they said on post fame radio Todd got “nicked up”.

Thank you Kenny Edenfield and the receiver that can't catch. I think the receiver was shocked the qb got the ball to him. No touch and throws with way to much velocity

The defense did look a lot better. I was happy to see that. The pass defense was better, and we got better pressure up front.
I'm still worried though. There were a few missed opportunities by the USA QB that could've been easy TD's, and Troy was fortunate. There were two dropped passes by USA in the endzone, and then another one was overthrown. He also overthrew some wide open WR's down the field. If it had been App State's QB we were playing against, I'm afraid we would've seen a different result. Cephus Johnson just isn't a sharp QB like some of the others we'll see in the Sun Belt.
Nevertheless, I do think our DB's played man defense better, and Will Sunderland looks like he's starting to play pretty well.

Defense better in totality. Some adjustments seen. Still with some blown covers. Dell Pettis going to be real good. We could have really used Dunlop. Martial REAL GOOD. Sunderland pretty dang gone good. We could have used another big D lineman AJ Pierce pretty good size body. Lots of young guys learning on the fly. REally REALLY appreciate Martial. USA play calling and execution at times is bad. Kaleb has a grip problem. Think that about sums it up. We win at Jorja State we might even build on confidence. D should then continue to improve. Last but not least. Jabir with a different speed up through the line helps to create a different wrinkle to our O that only helps keeping our D off the field more.....That is good for the D

I agree we looked pretty good in man coverage. What we don't look good in is zone. Even the announcer said that. Really was pleased with how we covered in man. When we are getting burned and seem confused is in zone. Still need work on that but it's good to know we can run man and press coverage

One can't lead with one's head when making a tackle. That hit late in the first half where he was dinged up occurred about 10yds down field from my direct line of sight. He's fortunate he's walking around today. That was ugly and as scary as anything I've ever seen live in a game.

You would think that it would not be repeated as oft as it is.

Nope. You don’t get anything till you beat somebody. USA is the SBC version of Akron (a bottom 10 program) I’ll change my tune if we can beat one of App, ULL or GA state and get to 8 wins

Never could understand why you would start 7 yards back to try to pick up a foot?

A win is a win. Yes, South Alabama may not be that good of a team. Yes, they shot themselves in the foot with botched plays and a dropped TD pass. We have no control over what USA does. Our guys took advantage of those miscues and capitalized as they should have. I do believe there is room for improvement and Wednesday night was certainly a step in the right direction.

I wish we knew the story behind the defensive game against south. This thread is a DCBH appreciation thread, but how do we know (The HC we don’t speak of) didn't step in? Somebody did something right and I would like to know the story.

Defense forced 4 three-and-outs, and played pretty well in the second half.
The offense rarely gave them a break to rest or make adjustments on the sideline.

All three phases of football are sucking. Defense can't stop the pass at all, offense never maintains momentum, and on top of all that we either miss field goals or kick the ball out of bounds.
Considering the huge amount of experience coming back next season and the transfers becoming eligible, if we don't have a 10+ win season in 2020, then (The HC we don’t speak of) (The HC we don’t speak of) and crew need to be fired.
Hopefully we don't have a bunch of guys transfer out after this season.
