Looks like classic over reach by politically correct administration seeking to punish all for the acts of a few... Troy University has suspended new member activities for most of its fraternities because of hazing and other problems. a.msn.com/01/en-us/AAIaeX8

This should be resolved by the time the higher ups talks to all the organizations. I feel bad for the people who didn't do anything wrong yet they still have to pay the price. The Greeks are the only groups the University does this to. This would be like if someone on the football team gets arrested for an incident then the University stopped the Baseball, Basketball, and Soccer teams from practicing or playing games. It's just grandstanding so it appears the University is taking a tough stance so it looks good to the press. Seems the politics haven't changed since my days on Pell Avenue.

Last time I checked the football team wasn't hazing incoming players. This is a nation wide problem with the Greeks and some people have died from it. Chances are all of them are doing it, just two got caught. Waiting until someone dies or is badly injured wasn't the answer. Like I stated this is a problem that many universities are dealing with now and I'm sure there is more to this than is getting released

My son pledged one of the ones that got suspended in 2012 against my advice. He quit later that year. I won't say what they did but it was really sick

My son pledged one of the ones that got suspended in 2012 against my advice. He quit later that year. I won't say what they did but it was really sick The Frat suspended, against your advice? He earned a scholarship to Troy. He attended to make me happy. He knew no one so he thought the fraternity would be good. Once in he saw the things they did and didn't want any part of it. He was miserable at Troy. Transferred to UCF, started working for a company in Orlando while in school. Graduated and got contacted by a company in NYC. He will be 26 this month and making great money. Proud of him. Troy was great for me, UCF was great for him. He still tells me I should have heeded your advice

Here’s an idea. Don’t haze. I was in a Frat at Troy and never experienced any hazing. I wouldn’t have tolerated it. There is no place for it. You don’t build a brotherhood by treating young men like garbage.

Some type of initiation is certainly appropriate. You want new members to do things to show commitment. That certainly doesn't have to be nasty and degrading.
