I don't think it was an intentional shot at TROY at all. There were probably better ways to communicate it but we on this board are understandably overly sensitive and therefore reading a whole lot into it that I don't believe is actually there. I don't know what his degree or long-term career goals are but another school just might be the better path educationally to reach them. That isn't necessarily a put-down of TROY's institution. I left TROY and transferred to MTSU because it provided me a better education and better networking for my goals. I'm a MUSICIAN, saying that another school was better for me than TROY, Dr. Long, Ralph Ford and the rest of the fine SOTS staff and family. I have nothing but respect and absolute LOVE for them. However, at the time pretty much all I could do with a music degree from TROY was teach and that isn't what I wanted to do. Networking with movers and shakers in the music business really only happens in places where the business happens. MTSU and Belmont were pretty much what fit my needs. I transferred and ended up as the studio manager of a semi-private recording studio owned by two prominent artists (who were married at the time). I've worked on many album projects and got to meet, sing, play and work with dozens of huge music artists - some of them with legendary status. I love TROY from day one but none of that could have happened if I'd stayed at TROY. There are educational programs at TROY that outshine all others and are best suited for those on that track and some programs that are less than others' or non-existent. It is what it is. I wish Smith success, unless he suits up against us.

So you are telling us, if he had come out of spring practice as the announced # 1 QB, he would still be transferring to get a “better education” (his words) than the one at Troy ?

I believe that in order to transfer and be eligible as a graduate transfer, the school that the athlete is entering must have a program that is not available at the former institution. In and of itself, that would indicate that Smith would be bettering his education. It seems that the beef is with the manner in which he made the statement. It seemed to be disparaging in nature.

He listed Major is Social Science. Yea, he didn’t transfer to purse a major in Bio Nuclear Physics or whatever lofty degree you can think of. He competed. He lost. He ran away from the competition to a team that talked needed a fail safe. Good luck to kid. Hopefully he learns from this but this looks to be a trend for the today’s cuddled youth.

People will see and think what they want and wish to feel, as is their right. Facts don't care about your feelings, however. You don't have the facts. You have suppositions. And those suppositions are based on seizing upon one sentence of a longer interview; an interview that also could have edited out fuller information, too. Having said that....at the end of the day, if you wanna be bitter then go ahead. That's an unhealthy diet to be on constantly. I'm gonna choose differently.

The kid couldn’t handle the competition, took his ball and ran away and while walking away took a degrading shot at Troy. Some people were opposed to that and called him out on it. No more no less.

My assessment of your bitterness comes from your posts here and many others. I'm not trying to be mean when I say that. I catch myself, time and time again, tempted to get all lathered up over certain stuff. And there are many times where it gets the best of me and I give in and rant. So I'm not better than you; it happens to me too. But it isn't me thinking too much. It's a totality of the evidence. Again, facts not feelings. Smith said many positive things in that interview regarding TROY. Some fans here took the one remark and....overthought it. I'm choosing to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume the best regarding it. Next man up, right? Doesn't really matter what he thinks.

I enjoy everyone expressing different viewpoints and engaging in debate. No issues on countering what I say. Above you did say you based it on facts but then said you were going to give him the benefit of the doubt, which is an assumption. Those are counter to each other. Regardless, yea he said some nice things but he also took a veiled shot at the school I love. And again, he left because he couldn’t handle the competition, some say he was #3 behind Barker and Watson. I am just a big proponent of taking what life gives and fighting tooth and nail to win. He didn’t do that. And I like it’s a shame because he had potential. How do we know this ? Because I believe if had had come out of Spring as the # 1 he would still be at Troy. Remember Levi Brown, # 3 on depth chart. Didn’t run away. Stayed and fought. Earned respect and now a Troy Legend. And that taught him more about life than anything.

Remember he had transferred from Richmond and then he did not have the portal either. Not saying it would not turn out the way it did but it is a different time. I saw on CSNBBS that about 700 entered in FBS to the portal. Our guys were pretty good players and so far I think 3 have been picked up. Just kind of like going to Big Lots.....you can get some good deals in there and it appears you can on the NCAA portal for guys looking elsewhere.
