This is already known but some more info. This should help Troy to climb in the US News rankings somewhat, at least in the long-run: 15,000 sq ft research facility to be built on Troy campus which will also allow offering more research based graduate degrees (three doctoral programs). tropnews.com/changes-underway-for-troy/

This is BIG news. Troy has been needing to offer these types of degrees for a while. This will really help expand enrollment, and maybe some of these Troy grads won't move on to other like USA, UAB, Auburn, etc. to get their grad degrees.

I've always heard you don't want to get your grad degree from the same place as undergrad. So hopefully this will help getting others to come to Troy for grad degrees.

Amazing all the progress over the years ... and how it continues! Being a "research" institution is very big! Not only attracting more students ... but also opens up Grant opportunities!! Also very excited to see the continued emphasis on international students and study abroad. And can't wait to see the Rec center. When to JSU/Troy baseball last week. My cousin is a prof at JSU ... he toured me through their new rec center ... amazing! I bet the same company is building ours? (he said this company specializes in campus rec centers) These are not the "rec/work out" centers of yesteryear ... very high tech ... and so many cool options. Hope they let fat old alums some access!

Still long way to go. However, the FB team could actually help here. Success on the field (Top 25 rankings, etc) would result in more PR and many more applications (Flutie effect) which would lower the overall acceptance rate which in turn would get Troy ranked higher in the U.S News rankings (which again would result in more applications). It’s all about perception and general reputation. Some schools use athletics to climb in the rankings (Boise St). Some other schools build new state-of-the-art student facilities to get more applications (TCU). Some universities even increase tuition fees more aggressively, because higher fees are associated with better education, and many others rely on their respective graduate schools. Most universities and undergraduate departments benefit from their graduate schools and generated research output. How would you rate undergraduate education anyways? There is almost no way to rank undergraduate programs correctly. Undergraduate programs almost always benefit from a school’s overall reputation which is mostly due to graduate level research output. For ex: People always assume that Princeton has a very prestigious Law school, however, Princeton U doesn’t even have a Law school (but Princeton’s general reputation makes people assume it has a top Law school). abovethelaw.com/2017/11/why-princeton-law-school-is-in-the-top-20/
