Took awhile, but here comes the “let’s never fire a coach, he’s my buddy, or he needs more time, or let’s not worry about wins or losses” crowd. Wins put buts in seats. Neal Brown proved that and to a lesser degree Hamilton in soccer. Soccer was just an after thought, you saw the field from the Trojan Center and some students walked the track around around it. He comes in and they win right away and low and behold 1,200 students in the crowd to watch chick soccer. NB comes in, we win and students are taking busses to Mobile for an away game plus we start setting attendance records. Two things the new coach has to do 1) WIN!! 2) Get the students excited about basketball and like Ho said, get them excited about games by doing fun things during the games 3-10) WIN!! Nothing breeds excitement like winning....period. We have got to get this hire right or we basically have an arena for a good women's team, a sub par volleyball team and a great graduation venue. Volleyball will be good. You are correct, Especially for Troy, student involvement is the biggest component due to the smaller local support.

One thing is certain, the new coach needs to know how to recruit some inner cities and expand past Alabama and Georgia in recruiting. You sell the momma on the safety of Troy. Some of these momma's want their son out of the crime and danger and you can sell Troy on being safe, great facility and early playing time. Great basketball played in Tennesse especially Memphis, Kentucky and even Tampa South. It would be great to get a coach with connections to both larger city basketball and the AAU circuit

Just curious. Why did this not happen when we won back in 2016-17? Also, women's continually win but still have a hard time drawing crowds. Plus, the promotions team has constantly held in game activities or free giveaways to try and draw students. One thing I think they need to do is have a true student section. Make students sit together in the bleacher seats by band. Create an atmosphere. Now they are just spread all over the arena sitting in the comfy seats not wanting to get up. Or go ahead and renovate arena. Take away first few rows of stadium seats and add in bleachers where students can stand, cheer, get into the game.

They got hot at the end and won the conference tourney but regular season was ho hum and the three seasons prior were .338%. Women's team is a mystery but generally unless you are Tennessee or Uconn they don't draw all that well. Arena is to big for our basketball program honestly as the capacity was for graduations and hopefully to get a bigger school to play at Troy ie Miss St in 2012. Not sure other than that that we will pack the stands which leaves it feeling empty sometimes. From what I've heard PC had no relationship with the students like NB did. I can't answer for Rigby and to be honest being 330 miles away I would not have known NB did what he did with the students had it not gotten coverage. I agree they need to have students sit behind the visitors bench or in a certain section like in football. If we can start winning and playing an exciting brand of basketball like we did in the run and gun days students will show up. Heck I don't even like basketball and I went to games in the box in the 80's because they won and they had cool stuff for us to do at games. Sartain with its flaws when you had 1,500-2,000 it felt rocking and packed. Now the same crowd doesn't fill 40% of the arena so its a different atmosphere in that sense.

What ? why would one limit themselves to recruiting to the “inner cites” (were you implying the “ghetto” ?) If your logic were applied we wouldn’t have recruited Jordon Varnado, Hicks or BJ Miller. All talented, just not coached to their potential, as they weren’t from the “inner city”

Expand horizons. You can get a Vernado or Persons but your odds are way less in a smaller market. If you want to be the best you have to recruit like the best. Do you think Duke just recruits the research triangle? Does Gonzaga just recruit Spokane? Does Uconn men and women just recruit New England? You need 5-7 good players so you need to expand to make sure you are getting the best 5-7. Just a thought

They recruit nationally and have/had plenty of players from small towns or country areas. They don’t exclusively recruit the inner city. Just a thought, recruit the best talent available regardless where they live or are from....

Like maybe;let see......you coached some kids in Church League years back so now you want to broker them kinda thing? Not a bad gig, I got banned from a church league here because I coached to win. They said the kids just need to have fun. I asked why there was a running score board? They said it didn't matter. I told them my kids were going to learn how to win and how to lose. We won the league and everyone got the same trophy? I asked why? Everyone's a winner. I said no, just my team. I was asked to not come back lol
