Tennessee must be in worse shape intellectually than I previously thought. Hey! Lets hire a guy who's team has scored one touchdown in nine quarters as our new O.C. does that make a hell of alot of sense?
Let’s see you have three or four starters out and at least one playing with an injury, so it’s likely that the production will drop. (Unless it’s on your favorite gaming console). Now a great offensive coordinator turned head coach is caught in a dilemma. Should he be stubborn and run his offense that he knows and loves or should he be the head man and put his team in the best possible situation to win? You have a very good defense that can possibly protect your beaten, battered, and bruised offense. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn’t. Here’s a thought. Maybe Neal Brown is a hell of a lot smarter than some of the moronic posters on this board? I don’t see his intellect being in question. And having a very good defense such as ours to secure a win is an advantage to be used. But as good a defense as we have can’t protect a 21 point deficit from anything other than getting worse. Whether the players on offense are 1s, 2s or 3s, call plays that give them an opportunity to show what they’re made of. Give them a fighting chance.

Who’s expectations? You and the message board geeks that expect the 2’s and 3’s to maintain the same level of production as the 1’s? Does that even make sense? There’s a reason why some guys start over others. Use common sense. Troy played one team with a winning record and one 6-6 team the first six games. Troy faced one bowl team. Oddly enough Troy was 5-1 versus those six teams. In the last six Troy was 4-2 while playing 3 teams with winning records and one 6-6 teams. The loss to Liberty was ugly. The offense was out of whack and Tron Folsom was sorely missed on defense. Troy faced three bowl teams in second half the season with multiple starters out. All in all it’s been a pretty good season so far. I was responding and just trying to provide my insight on my beloved Trojans. No need to call anyone names and attempt to be belligerent to others when just having conversations. The message board “geeks” you refer to are great supporters of the Trojan program. Yes, every fan of the program has their own set of expectations, this is very normal throughout any fandom and frankly makes it fun to debate. I have a large circle of alumni and part of several groups that a have alot of fans of Troy, and a lot are indeed surprised that our offense went from a 9 out of 10 to a 1 out of 10 due to a few injuries. Like I said above it was the amount of the fall that surprised a lot of fans. I think you saw that also on this board from a lot of people who go and support the program. The Liberty dumpster fire also surprised a lot of supporters from a program that has now been well established under CNB. Our QB play after Barker went down was especially troubling since our top 2 QB coming into the year, according to CNB were inseparable until the every end of Fall practice. Go TROY and join the Alumni Association folks, we need ya. So you and your friends don’t understand that losing 3 or 4 starters on offense will have an impact of the production and play calling? Maybe the Liberty game was proof that adjustments needed to be made due to the change of quarterback? Yeah, join the alumni association. Even your local association.

Most teams at this level can work through injuries and I think in 2018 we done a great job of making it up with the help of the 2's and 3's. I said it at this first of this season and I will say it at the end this season, the difference between this season and the 2017 season was not talent due to this years talent is better then last years. Troy was lacking the leadership on the field that was there in 2017. Anyone on this board can argue that point but when you go back and watch games from 2017 Vs 2018 there was always communication on and off the field. This year I could see spurts of leadership but no way near what we had last year. NB brown had around three years to work with and develop that Sr. class of 2017 and done a great job of it but we as a whole lost a lot of leadership. Now with that said I do believe in 2019 with the work he has put in with this new group in 2018 that we as fans will see this leadership rise and we will see a big difference in the up and coming season.
You can have all the talent in the world but without leadership you have to many gaps to fill and the work becomes that much hard. We all know this due to we deal with this in our every day lives. Football is no different.
NB will be back in 2019, I HOPE AND I AM SAYTING PLEASE so you can prove my point!!!!

Again, as stated twice already, it was the amount of the drop in production that was disappointing and unexpected. With the biggest surprise being at QB play. And yes most supporters of the program( as do the coaches in the program !) have a level of expectations of the 2nd team players to still perform at a good level, they are DI athletes on scholarship.

This may not be totally equal to what our debate is but for example only. My oldest son was the new quarterback of a high school his high school team that lost the 3AAA State title game the year before but our team had 19 starters back including the state player of the year for 3AAA and he was rated the 2nd best player in all classes in Florida then there were the other great high school players Preseason they were the ELEVENTH ranked high school team in the nation. (I know those rankings are a bit homie) but 11Th is pretty high hopes. So my son with the great ring back were injured and thru injuries and yes Two arrests!!! The total number of starters lost was 9. Probably the best nine. My son also playred linebacker and was offered by several schools MTSU. They ended 5-5 for the season. Due to two way guys actually only 6 kids from eleventh in nation to 5-5 in 3AAA. I think 4 guys are worth a loss or two on the college level because not everyone playing who fills their shoes are equal.

Injuries along with better opponents combined for the struggles on offense. I’m not saying anyone is happy with the ouput, but there is a reason for it. Demarcus Ware and Pierce Devaughn are both D1 athletes. By your logic we can expect them both to perform at the same level. Correct?

Add obtuse game planning and very conservative play calling to the reasons for the drop in output. Just blaming several injuries is illogical. Again, everyone understands output will drop and fluctuate when injuries occur but it was the amount of output that was perplexing. We had three, maybe four injuries maximum affecting us at any one time. We went what 8 or 9 quarters without scoring a touchdown? I never would have believed that could happen with a few injuries. And our zero to little output was against a few teams that had inferior talent levels to Troy. On your Demarcus Ware and Pierce Devaughn comparison. For this to be legit, you would have to assume that the #1 that were injured were of the caliber of Demarcus Ware, an NFL AllPro, future Hall of Famer. And we can assume that is not likely. So the comparison would be a false equivalency. Pierce Devaughn, don’t know much about him but he did have offers from UConn and Army. Somebody that has the measurables that would normally play at Troy.

Again when talent does not equal leadership and leadership does not equal talent no matter the injuries or play calling you do not win championships, but when talent equals leadership and leadership equals talent it allows you to over come the injuries and some bad play calling and your chances of winning championships is always greater. Next year will be that year.
NB will be here in 2019, I AM HOPING AND SAYING PLEASE so you can prove my point!!

All valid points on both sides. But we still give out 85 scholarships and most don’t expect when you do run into challenges like we have we don’t go from a machine gun to a squirt gun. I think how far to the bottom we dropped in production was extreme and disconnecting to expectations. Who’s expectations? Ok look... I would love it if our 2s were better than our opponent's 1s. We can try with out recruiting the other guys but the truth of it is... we would have to be cut throat with our own students. That guy that suits up every game but never plays.. what's his purpose? Maybe he is a great leader off the field or has some other excellent quality but most likely he is just a student athlete that gives 100% but it just doesn't cut it for playing time. The coaches made a promise to him before he even stepped on campus and I think we owe it to him to keep it. So... even though we have 85 scholarships, not all of the players are going to be All American. CNB has expectations for his players and if they are on the team, I am assured they are meeting those expectations. Student first, athlete second.
But still.. we should leave our opponents discouraged and shivering.

Interesting how that offense explodes when you get the majority of your playmakers back for the first time in two plus months.

When the talking heads of NCAA FBS talk as if one or two starters skipping a bowl makes a considerable difference . Then I believe 3 top receivers a quarterback and a couple defensive guys are REALLY GOING TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. To argue otherwise is like saying the Southern Generals in the Cival War sucked in comparison to the Northern Generals because the outcome was not good for the South. We have had a hundred and fifty years of near unanimous historical consent on that not being true. Missing parts and people makes ALL the difference and YES we won 10 games this year via a great coaching job in general.
