Cold shooting, poor rebounding, faster opponent...

It looked like two different games. Troy was easily winning in the first half. In the second half Coastal came out much more aggressive, Troy seemed to play a little slower. Coastal was winning on both boards, inside, and just showed a lot more energy. It also seemed to me that the refs called a different game in the second half. Contact that wasn't called in the first half seemed to be called in the second. Hicks and Davis got several pushing or blocking fouls called when the contact was initiated by the Coastal player. I think that really made a difference because Hicks only played 11 minutes due to foul trouble. Without Hicks, Coastal was able to take control of the boards. Just my humble and normally accurate opinion

Trojanfan2 noticed the same thing I did...we got out rebounded. It appears to me we are too small to be physical inside. As good as Varnado and Hicks are, they are relatively slim for an inside presence. Maybe our lack of a big man inside is a function of the fact we are considered a lower end mid-major program, maybe all those guys go play else where. Maybe we don't recruit them because they don't fit our philosophy. Whatever the reason, when you rely on the perimeter game and it goes cold, if you don't have somebody that can get inside and crash the boards, you don't have much to work with. All you can do is keep firing threes and hope they begin to fall. That's what happened in the second half Saturday. We came out cold and never heated up.
