Looks like they are getting ready to start on the new fitness center. Whaley's has almost got the fence up around the parking lot and a trailer for the office in the corner. Troy just continues to grow!

I heard that they were going to build the new rec center in the Sartain parking lot and keep Sartain standing for at least a semester before tearing it down. Can anyone confirm this, or is this just rumors?

Isn't this the area for the new nursing facility?

This has changed 100 times, but the last I heard was.... the staging area will be the entire parking lot, which is why they had to finish the new lot at the Trojan Center. Sartain will come down and the Fitness center will be built on top of it. At one point I know it was mentioned that it would be at the corner of George Wallace and University rather than on the Sartain grave, but the latest I heard was building it on top of Sartain. Parking lot will be re-opened once construction is finished, but we lose some of the parking spots.

I hope sometime in the future Troy can invest in a small parking garage. Students have been calling for that for decades.

It would look awful, where would you put it? ANd it would also cost a lot! It's not necessary. If students that lived less than a quarter mile from the school would start walking or use the transit system, there would be no issue.

With losing the parking lot where will the RV Section be for tailgating. I hate to see that go, it was nice to see RV's flying the Troy flags at tailgates.

Not losing the parking lot for ever. Temporarily shut down, once the building is done, parking lot will be back.
I did hear a rumor once that someone important was not a fan of the RV's being the first thing you see on game day....

The new Rec center is going to be built in Sartain parking lot. They are gonna keep Sartain up until the new Rec Center is close to being finished and then tear Sartain down and turn that area into a parking lot close to the size of the old lot. There was an email that went out stating that the new lot that was just finished will replace the entire amount of spaces that the Sartain lot had plus it has an additional 300 spaces. So according to the email campus actually gained 300 parking spots for the spring and once Sartain is torn down that will be even more parking.

Thanks for the clarification 1029, I saw a big hole in the ground being dug in the old parking lot and assumed it may be where the new indoor pool will be located so what you shared here makes sense. Hope all this is settled prior to tailgate season!

This is a welcome sight for the campus. After visiting several Universities with my daughter and seeing their rec center, Troy was very much behind in this.

I was trying to figure out how they were getting the extra spots in where the Sartain parking lot and Sartain was now. Thank you for the pic.

My Son graduated from UCF and granted they have close to 80,000 students but their student rec center looks like our Arena. Indoor track, volley ball courts, racquet ball courts, pool, huge weight room. Yes, this was sorely needed. end zone complex, new dining hall, new alumni hall, new arena etc. sigh!!! I went to Troy 30 years to early lol
