I think Dr. Hawkins hits it just right. As a former member of the Greek system at Troy, there are a lot of good people who do a lot of good for the student body who are Greeks. Our Greek system pushes students to be actively involved on this campus. However, I do understand that there are some bad apples that will cause the general public to have a negative view of the Greek system, but at Troy, I do believe, there are very few "bad apples" in fraternities/sororities. Greeks get a long well with each other at Troy and don't necessarily cause a lot of trouble as compared to other schools in the state. I think the article is a very fair representation of the positives of what Greeks have done at Troy.

i do hate how he only highlights the one. favoritism has no place I completely agree... From first hand experience, Greeks aren't fond of the favoritism that the university shows towards one fraternity. I understand why though, they raise a LOT of money (around $40,000) when they do their big event in the Spring. It brings a great deal of positive publicity to Troy. But that doesn't take away the fact there are 17 other fraternities and sororities that also do a lot of good too.

The reality is, money talks.
Might as well learn it early. Fact of life.

I can attest that Sigma Chi, Alpha Gam, Kappa Delta and Phi Mu have given more than $50,000 (combined) to NeverThirst over the last 12 months. Our greeks do a great job of giving back. I was not a greek so I have no bias towards any of them. I know those who contributed to the fundraiser I'm involved with and I appreciate them. I think he was just "striking while the iron was hot" with the publicity of ATO.
