My question is could SoBama be headed in the same direction in the distant future? Outside of Miss St their attendance is horrible along with an off campus stadium.

South isn't going anywhere. We all know UA has everything to do with UAB I honestly don't see how you can blame UAT for UAB. They're businessmen. If UAB actually made money and had fan support, they would be playing football. Only the least informed people could ever think UAsB Team was grabbing recruits or anything else from UA.

They would shut down Auburn, Troy, USA, UNA, and Jax St. if they could!

I don't think they're petty enough to shut down UAB and lose 50 mil just to be a bully. And like I said, might be ruthless but I'd probably shut down all the other schools if I had the power to and it bettered the one I'm a fan of.

If every university was forced to shut down every program that lost money then a lot of us would have to find new things to do on weekends. On the surface, keeping them is bad business practices as well. I guess those "LEAST INFORMED PEOPLE" are also oblivious as to the reasons UA refuses to play any instate football program and keep that money and those jobs in Alabama. Why didn't UA agree to play UAB each year home and home to help with the financial shortfall they claim exist if they were really interested in helping at all? I believe it was Sabin that said about in state OOC games, "I won't play any team I recruit against"! Alabama possesses an arrogance that's exceptional but then my opinion might change if some of the MOST INFORMED PEOPLE might share from their wealth of knowledge. We're listening!:-):-):-) JMHO!

What they are doing with football and the power conferences will cause a lot if this as time passes. It's all about MONEY! That's not a bad thing......unless you become one of the victims.

I have to agree with Atlanta Trojan on this one! I think when he refers to UA he is speaking of the Board of Trustees, not anyone in the athletic department. You need to understand that he is NOT saying they (UT BOT) were worried about UAB in regards to recruits or even the money. IF you go back and study the History of the UAB Athletics Program you will find a hatred (almost an obsession) by ONE member of the BOT towards UAB and ANY athletics at that campus. THAT individual is about to go off the BOT and I do not think anyone would be surprised (if it was uncovered) that this was his last request OR his way of collecting on some old agreements with other board members.

Alabama alumni doesn't want UA funds going to support other schools athletic programs. It's sad UAB can't cut that umbilical cord but then it's not about athletics..,,unless you are a UA supporter. Oh, I completely see the business side. I wonder if UA will shut fown their track program, tennis programs, all ladies sports and any other UA athletic programs that drain from that same UA checking account? If they are going to shut down football at UAB then I could understand it more if they told UAB that they are part of UA family therefore there will be no sports programs financed outside Tuscaloosa. You support us.

I don't think they're afraid to lose to the red headed stepchild of the family. Also, that might be why Nick Saban won't play those games, but I don't think that's the universities reason. I think they're afraid to have a poor showing against in state schools, but losing recruits? No.

Some states require instate teams to play each other simy gor that reason, keep money flowing within OUR state. I have no way up prove what's in JR's or anyone's heart on that board but what was offered to help them? Not an on campus stadium, apparently not an honest commitment to a coaching staff and players or even one that got them to bowl eligibility in one year. The program was on an upswing it appears. Last year would have made more sense. In the end, it's all just speculation. I have friends from both universities but I don't get the same elitism from Auburn folks as I do from the UA crowd but that is just MY small sampling group.

You support us. Paul Bryant Jr? That's probably the one, I would think. Yep, that's the one I keep hearing! I guess I let an experience years ago taint my view of that family. I always respected Coach Bryant as a coach because he was what I thought a successful coach needed to be, tough. Then I was fortunate enough to be selected to attend a recognition banquet as a player and Paul Bryant was one of 3 speakers. After his presentation a question and answer session took place with the news media (it was a news paper sponsored event). At one point Bryant was asked a question that he didn't like so he gave a sarcastic answer, got up and walked out on all those/us players and our parents and coaches. No explanation. That stuck with me a long time as a coach. The media can be a pain but that was classless! Nevertheless, it is what it is at UAB, they are a step child plain and simple! I wonder about the rest of their programs, are they on shakey ground? Recruiting there should be interesting!

USA will have an on campus stadium soon, they have money. Be more worried about USA getting scooped up by CUSA, which would majorly suck. I like that Troy and USA are conference mates

I'm just thankful Troy isn't the afterthought of someone else's kingdom.

You support us. Cutting UAB football is a drop in the bucket as far as UAB's athletic subsidy goes. The subsidy will still be the same or higher next year with no football. And UA certainly doesn't pay for UAB's athletic programs. That's pretty much a joke. The problem is, UA fans think they "own" UAB. It's like some sort of weird slave relationship. Here's something I quote from someone on Facebook: -- UAB cut football and two other sports but is cutting no expenses. Really. It is adding men's track too. Cutting football will result in no savings of expenses. -- UAB will pay out about $2.5 million in cancelled game contracts and more than a million more in coaches' salaries. -- UAB will have to honor the scholarships of athletes who do not land elsewhere. -- UAB will lose affiliation with Conference USA which is a far more lucrative conference than the regional alternatives UAB will have to seek. -- UAB likely will have to pay millions in entrance fees for a new conference. -- UAB will lose significant valuable media exposure both in terms of game coverage, mentions in newspapers, magazines, websites, social media and in actual commercials that air during game broadcasts. It is difficult to quantify the exact value on that but most FBS schools project it as being worth 10s of millions if you had to buy that time or space each year. -- UAB becomes a non-entity in these venues until November each year, limiting exposure to alumni and current and future students. -- UAB's opportunities to make NCAA Tournament as at at-large team in basketball are at best going to stay same and probably will get worse. -- The report estimated a drop in 15-20 percent of donations. I expect it will be worse than that and probably will be extremely bad across non-sports giving. -- UAB rejected offers of millions in fundraising for football and refused to hear plans from city, county and corporate leaders on possibly public/private partnerships. -- The BOT rejected without even hearing a stadium proposal that might have addressed facilities concerns cited as reasoning and refused to explore any options -- or even discuss -- ways outside funds could be solicited. -- UAB is losing the single biggest outreach it has to raise awareness for its academic programs, keep alums connected to the school and the community aware and engaged in the university. -- UAB now gets the asterisk of being the first university to drop FBS football since 1995 and this upheaval is certain to have a ripple effect that is immensely damaging to its reputation. It will hurt recruiting and image across the board -- academics too -- and cements the perception that UAB will never be allowed to truly control it's affairs and destiny.
