I am new to the board, so don't jump on me too much because I know that all of you are football fans. I heard that ULL is taking the philosophy of taking the football money and putting it into all the other sports. Basically, if Troy football goes undefeated they still won't win a national championship nor go to a BCS/playoff bowl, or any Sunbelt team for that matter. So, they take the football money and pour it into the coaches, facilities, recruiting budgets, etc of the non-revenue sports and boom they are starting to have teams in the regionals in baseball, softball, etc. Then, the local people see them on TV, want to come out and support, etc which makes football better and more attended. I know there are some flaws in this argument, but what do you all think? Would you give up losing football seasons (getting money to play the big schools on the road) to have the baseball, softball, basketball, golf, etc in the regionals year after year?

I like the fact that she worked under Vann the last few years, and I hope that can translate over to Troy in the way she manages. I am now anxious to find out who the pitching coach will be and if she hires some assistant coaches that may have some head coaching experience or a more lengthy tenure. I know the SEC experience will be valuable. Do you think she was our first choice? Or did we get turned down by some current D1 coaches?

I am starting to wonder if our top choices have turned us down. Ryals is on his way to Oklahoma State where he is from to be an assistant coach, so maybe we were waiting on him to decide. Why do you think it is taking this long? I thought he had interviews lined up.

Hemi Man - give us some hints! Surely the coaches in the top 4 or so have been on campus.

Is Tom Gray the Oklahoma State coach on campus? Or Kelsi Dunne? I saw on another message board that they both were let go from Oklahoma State.

I don't know anything about JUCO basketball, but I know the coaches and the program and I don't think they are ready. I want the best of the best for Troy and I believe there are so many other more qualified leaders out there. I was trying to be nice by making a general statement..
Let's recap the prospects: 1. Jimmy Kolatis - Troy alumni, success at USA as a recruiter, hired all the way out to Oregon by one of the nations top coaches and teams, top level asst 2. Windy Thees - AD was the one that hired her at Ole Miss, won at Memphis 3. Kevin Fagan - success at high school, couple of years at JUCO, probably didn't apply 4. Arkansas assistant - Coy Adkins?, coached at UF and summer ball in Florida, top level asst 5. Lousianna assistant - ?? unknown name but possibly a good hire 6. Oklahoma coach - not sure who this is? 7. Thomas Macarena - championships at several levels, couple of violations, head coaching experience 8. JUCO Chipola Coaches - have coached some good athletes, not a consistent contender in a tough conference, limited experience recruiting Division I
Who do you like??? Will it be someone on the list or a complete wild card?

I really hope they stay away from the Panhandle JUCO coaches. They are not even close to ready to be able to take on ULL, USA, Alabama or Auburn. They need to be assistant coaches at a division I school first.

I guess it doesn't matter to me either way, male or female, but I want someone that can recruit. I feel like if we can get those high caliber players to campus, then the Troy atmosphere will impress them and maybe a top pitcher or two will make the difference. The players like the big name schools, regardless of whether the college is the right fit, has their major, or if they will even get playing time.

Have there been any coaches on campus interviewing? I know of at least one that applied and have heard through the grapevine that several of the above mentioned are interested in the position.

The Fagan girls have been debated on many message boards, and I don't want to get into it on this one. It is a fact that two of the best players on the UF softball team were kicked off the team right before a Regional tournament and I don't think Tim Walton would do that if they were completely innocent. Windy Thees won at Memphis and frankly she didn't have time to recruit her own players at Ole Miss. Ole Miss is just not going to get the talent that the top-tier schools in the SEC are going to get, so anyone who takes that job is going to need some luck or a late bloomer recruit (think Farish Beard). I have heard good things about Jimmy Kolaitis, but I suspect there will be some great teams after him as well.

I am glad to see this discussion on softball! I do not know anything about Kevin Fagan as a coach, but his daughters have been in a lot of trouble and even were kicked off the UF softball team right before the regional tournament. They are very good players, and from the information I was provided, they are trouble and even talent coulnd't save them. I would rather not see that kind of environment in Troy softball. There are several qualified coaches out there, and I would go after Windy Thees. She was at Ole Miss, but that job is a dead end job because someone has to finish last in the SEC. She played at FSU and started her career coaching in the area, so I hope she will apply.
