Not sure of UK's QB situation ... but I know he'll compete. Not sure what his major is ... but to be able to "work" at football and get a Masters paid for ... that's a great opportunity. And, you make additional professional contacts, etc. Good luck to him!

Don't blame the coach. When you have 4 studs in the barn and the NCAA offers them a backdoor to another race... expect it. I was just wondering when this might happen, not IF. Best to Sawyer!! No matter how you slice it Sawyer became a starter last year and did well. Now it is likely in his junior year he would be not starting and the following year pushed real hard by another quarterback that I think will Gunnar. So he is good and I am not sure if he will be the last. I too wish him well and if we don’t lose someone else we are going to be fine. Kaleb was approaching special Last year and Sawyer probably saw that as well and his progress coming back. To be honest we had or have so many quarterbacks that a truck load of schools would love to have. Cornhole mentioned think UF with Urban in one of the threads. They and many more like them would have loved to have had one of our QB’s. Brandon was far superior to what many other schools have at QB. Sawyer is going to be a prize get by someone and we wish him well. It might just be a little selfish to say to a guy like that in this day and age: Suck it up and don’t consider yourself. Of everyone in the Portal he actually makes sense and can not blame him. Wish it would not happen but I understand. As to loyalty he tried and it was not over but sometimes you can just tell how things are probably going to turn out. Agree. Think highly of Sawyer and he's given his all for the years he's been here. I assume he's graduating ... and will be able to play right away. So, here's a guy who has been a great teammate and has played a big roll in Troy's success last few years. We all make choices ... cost/benefit analyses ... Can't blame him at all to take the opportunity to find a situation to be able to Play! I wish him well!

Heard CL while back talking about the QBs: praised what Sawyer did last year and knows he's a winner, thinks very highly of the young/new guys ... bright future. Then mentioned that if Kaleb stays healthy ... could be best QB in conference.

Gad, same 5 months! What a roller-coaster! Dude, weâre talking about 90 days. No way anyone else has done this in the modern era. Might be a good argument for hiring from within at this time? At least the folks on the staff now would have familiarity with the new coaches and I assume played some roll in the process? I actually hope Jeremy included them ... cause at least with the Cross hire, and maybe with (The HC we don’t speak of) ... he had to know there was a chance he was leaving?

Sure would love to make it to the scrimmage ... but will have to wait until next week. Saw it's been moved to 9:00 a.m. ... trying to dodge some of the heaviest storms ... but it's looking like rough weather all day. This would be one of those days when an Indoor Facility would really come in handy!! If they get it in ... I look forward to any reports from those who can attend. I know QB battle is of interest ... also I know there are several defensive changes/spots open?? Looking forward to seeing us in action.

Just read a good article with Coach Cross, he mentioned both those guys being open to staying. KJ has a great future and I really hope he stays, not that Johnson does not, but KJ is something special. I'd be disappointed to lose either Javan or KJ. Kids gotta grow up and learn to deal with change. I don't see either playing next year if they do wind up Div I. I suspect their decisions reflect some Staff decisions Scott cross has indicated. In the article I read Cross said they're both with the team ... working out, etc. ... and they'd be welcome if they decide to stay. I think with coaching change it's just natural for players to "test the water" a bit giving the uncertainty. Cross spoke highly of them ... so I wouldn't be surprised if they both stay.

I'm thinking it'll all work itself out. If (The HC we don’t speak of)'s numbers are near correct (he said there were like 2000 in the portal ... and 200 D1 scholarships available??) ... there will be lots of guys who at minimum don't end up where they thought they might. I'm guessing that's what happened to Jones. While Houston is considered a bigger profile (read bigger $$$) G5 program ... I'm guessing he expected to be at WV or equivalent P5 school. Not sure how accurate the 247 portal listing is (our guys aren't listed) ... but there are Lots of guys who don't have destinations. So, if there are lot of guys who end up dropping to lower divisions ... or maybe not playing at all ... that might cool the transfer fever, especially for underclassmen.

Just watched the press conference announcing Scott Cross and I am blown away. Great choice Jeremy! I'm really excited to see what he does with this program. Just watched. Sharp guy! I love his impression of the college/facilities ..."this is a Sleeping Giant ... we're gonna Awaken the Giant!" I can really see him getting out on campus and in the community and getting folks fired up!! Go Trojans!!

Schedule this week? Anyone know the schedule/practice plan for Thursday and Saturday? Will Saturday be a scrimmage? Thanks! I checked on Saturday and practice is 10:00 am. Did not ask IF they were going to scrimmage. Based on CCL mentioning that he expected to begin separating out people competing for the same position you would think they will have a scrimmage of some sort. Thanks sir! Sounds good!

Any news on the Nixon twins? I figure this will be their breakout year. If I remember correctly ... Coach mentioned them both as guys they'll be looking to step up and as leaders! I've seen them mentioned in some press ... and they show up in some of videos. I agree ... I predict they'll have big years!

Thanks for posting. Looks like they might've had some jersey numbers changed/mixed up ... at least according to the roster. Who was #6 wr and #9 DB? They seemed to really be going at it ... very physical... both looked good. Also, I wonder if Letton was wearing #16 instead of 17? Also, in a few of the clips ... notice 28 Strong is running the ball a good bit ... can't remember if he had appealed for immediate eligibility? Noticed the Miami QB won his ... so didn't know if Strong was in appeal process? Looking forward to getting down there soon. Thanks again!

Anyone make the first practice?? Reports? I hope to get down for a few ... excited to see the new systems/players. Saw the video ... so good to see Barker back out there and the hear how emotional/excited he was to be there! Coach (The HC we don’t speak of) is certainly very high on Kaleb!!!

From JSU source: the coach does Win ... but many if not most of the guys he brings in have academic and other issues. But, he can/does win! Also, he said they're paying him pretty well ... I think he said in $250-$300K range?

Amazing all the progress over the years ... and how it continues! Being a "research" institution is very big! Not only attracting more students ... but also opens up Grant opportunities!! Also very excited to see the continued emphasis on international students and study abroad. And can't wait to see the Rec center. When to JSU/Troy baseball last week. My cousin is a prof at JSU ... he toured me through their new rec center ... amazing! I bet the same company is building ours? (he said this company specializes in campus rec centers) These are not the "rec/work out" centers of yesteryear ... very high tech ... and so many cool options. Hope they let fat old alums some access!

Got to spend some time with Coach (The HC we don’t speak of) last week ...he visited with some old players in B'ham. Very, very personable guy!! Confident in his ability ... yet also had a humility and excited given where he came from. Very open, won the room right off! Could for sure tell that he has a passion for what he does and I think we all came away very impressed!! That's positive information. Might just not be good at pressers. Its the locker room that counts. Yep ... Locker rooms and Living Rooms! ... and of course HS coaches offices!! As we went around the table and talked about where we played/lived, etc., he was naming current and former coaches and players from those schools ... very impressive. Oh, he also talked specifically about the staff ... went through how they all fit together and what they bring to the table. Can't wait to see them on the field!

This happens. Though DT is 100% convinced that a personality like Sumrall's would have been the best fit to keep Tron and Marcus it happens. Chipper is just not a "Id like to have a beer with that fella" kind of guy. Hes more of a "I bet hes a cop with an inferiority complex" kind of guy and that does not resonate with kids. But, maybe he will be a hellofa coach. We shall see. This is an incorrect assessment. Interesting how some folks put XCNB on a higher than thou pedestal thinking he wouldn’t back channel the elite talent on the Troy team.... It sucks but reality in today’s world. Yo Saint. Even if Neal would not I am pretty sure not everyone who has CLOSE contacts to the defensive side would not necessarily refrain. Putting Neal on a pedestal? Perhaps I believe integrity was something he has and just maybe if guys want to come there and they are available who knows. Turn down a gift horse? Do I think Neal has instructed back channels to occur? No I don’t. Maybe none of us will know. If these guys show up at WVU you will think there was back channels from NB. I will think it was other wise. Not absolutely sure any of us will ever know. If they go elsewhere I am pretty sure they have been discouraged by NB because these guys are PLENTY GOOD ENOUGH for WVU Wouldn't be surprised if Marcus ends up at WV ... but would be very surprised if Tron ended up there. As someone else mentioned ... don't think Tron was going to be at Troy if Neal stayed. And again ... I wish them well!!

Players have always had the option of pursuing a transfer... and if lateral move (within the same division) they'd have to sit out unless granted a hardship. Now, the Grad Transfer rule changed that for grads ... which I think is good ... gives incentive for students to complete/graduate! I think the NCAA has gotten more lenient on the "hardship/waivers" ... but it's still not a done deal that you get to play. (see our TX a&m transfer). And really, I think the Portal might be a better way to try to prevent "some" of the tampering?? But, of course, that still goes on: a coach can talk to a coach, who knows an old HS coach, who knows an uncle, who might talk to a parent, who might talk to a player ..."hey, coach X at School Y says if you were ever interested in transfer ..." We're gonna be fine ... change happens. I wish those that leave well. I also am excited to see what we can accomplish with a group of talented players that are fully "bought in"!! Go Trojans!

There are some impressive looking players still listed on the transfer portal ... many that would be available immediately! I hope we're going after them ... especially a seasoned LB or 3!

He is going to be a grad transfer. Funny how all of you get excited when we sign one but can't understand when one of our players does it. If he earned his degree all the best and next Trojan up. My issue with this, he likely got an education, gratis.. and owes Troy a year. Same as Micah Grimes, Jonathan Massaquoi etc to name a few. Well, as a guy who was on football scholarship, I tell people, "I WORKED my way through school ... playing football!" Granted, now there are some time restrictions .. though not on working out/conditioning ... but it sure is work! Academic Scholarship is gratis ... not athletic (or band, etc.) I hate to lose him ... he was key player for us. I think missing him cost us the Liberty game ... Tron had a way of making big 3rd down plays to get us off the field ... we couldn't get off the field in that game. But, have no problem with a player taking advantage of opportunities that they think may be better ... like coaches do.

Hate to see him leave ... he's been a good one. Also, seems there might've been some issues at end of season ... looked like he was suspended for first half of bowl? and he got into with Coach Brown during second half?? So, he might've already been thinking of something other than Troy. He might be a "tweener" at next level ... but he sure seems to be around the ball a lot! Wonder what the market will be for him? If he doesn't find what he wants ... wonder if he'd be welcomed back? I think there's good bit of young talent coming along too
