UAB's series vs Holy Cross had to be moved due to non-stop rain in Birmingham and Troy was nice enough to host. Thanks for the hospitality. UAB swept Rudy's fallback school.

If Littrell stays at UNT he will be getting a bump and it will get him back to the highest paid. Usually you give the pay bump to encourage your coach to stay. But hey, you do you Mean Green.

Where is the best bowl match up. Boca is South but Nawlins is not a bad spot for a bowl game. Seems to me that N. Illinois is a pretty good matchup for UAB. You are correct about New Orleans though. UAB recruits South Florida heavily. We were looking at playing Miami in the Independence Bowl or playing in a Florida bowl. Boca was the best fit after Miami went to the Pinstripe. NO was never on the table due to UAB hosting Auburn the same night in basketball a the BJCC Arena.

Seems like Troy is in a similar situation as UAB. Word came this week that Bill Clark was on the short list for the Georgia Tech job. UAB's administration and boosters stepped up to make him the highest paid coach in Conference USA at $1.45 million... AL.com: UAB makes Bill Clark highest paid coach in C-USAHopefully Troy can do something similar to keep Brown.

If, and when, this new stadium is completed, I might be wiling to go to Birmingham to watch a football game. Until then, I have no desire to do so. And this pretty much sums up UAB's issue. There are a lot of casual fans that just won't go because of the location and quality of Legion Field. Outside a lack of adequate practice and training facilities, the stadium has been UAB's biggest downfall in recruiting and public perception. The practice and football operations facilities are now in place and we are finally seeing the new stadium come to fruition. Hope to see Troy back in B'ham soon... in the new stadium, of course.

Populous, the design firm for the new stadium project, was the same firm that designed Colorado State's stadium. They supplied UAB with the design graphics, hence the mix-up. They also designed Minnesota and Baylor's stadiums, so it could have easily been one of those instead.

Ha, I can promise you that I'm not BlazerUnit. I don't know anyone that thinks Legion Field is a long-term fit for UAB. I hope we can get the stadium built. I think we're the closest we've been to it actually happening. As far as attendance numbers, I'm simply going off what's reported because, at the end of the day, that's all that matters. Attendance has been great at Troy the past two seasons and I'm very aware that our first game's attendance was an anomoly. But just like Troy, we're hoping consistently winning season after season helps attendance. Hosting AL State and USA doesn't hurt, either.

So this is a proposed stadium to be funded by Jefferson County, the BJCC and the city of Birmingham to be built for the city of Birmingham. UAs B team hopes to play football here. Will UAB, at a minimum, contribute to a quality tarp, perhaps with painted scenes of cheering fans, to cover the empty seats? I get it, the joke is funny because UAB actually has higher football attendance than Troy. But to answer the question, the funding for the new stadium at the Civic Center and Uptown will consist of Birmingham, Jefferson County, and the BJCC being the primary funders, with UAB and private companies being secondary funders through lease agreements, naming rights, etc.

True, PensacolaKid. UAB brought back the football program, built a new practice facility and football operations building for Clark before his raise. We're cautiously optimistic about the new stadium coming to Uptown & starting construction in 2018.

I see he is getting a raise in the $900k $1 mil range. From al.com: "Clark's compensation jumps up to $900,000 and will escalate to $1,015,000 over the course of an extension that goes through the 2022 season. The deal makes Clark one of the top five paid coaches in Conference USA with UTSA's Frank Wilson topping the list at $1.137 million annually. Before the extension, Clark had a base salary of $605,000 on a contract that ran through June 1, 2020 and was the ninth-highest paid coach in the conference." Just for reference, Neal Brown is the 2nd highest paid coach in the SBC at $800k, with ULL's Hudspeth #1 at $1.15m, according to USA Today.

Give me a list of legitimate benefits Troy can offer Bill Clark to leave what he has built at UAB. I'll be sure to pass them on to him.

I wonder how the UAB fans and higher ups felt about CNB taking over the airways?? Same thing in Mobile last week, i am sure the Ath Dept higher ups loved hear Troy take over the airwaves! Great progressive thinking by our Athletic Dept. Glad to see your coach gets it. But to answer your question: UAB is getting coverage weekly (daily when fall camp opens) by B'ham ABC, NBC, FOX, and CBS TV affiliates and WJOX will most likely have Coach Clark as a weekly guest again this year. Coach Clark and UAB recently hosted members of the Alabama Sports Writers Association as well as serving as host for the AP Sports Editors conference... we've had ESPN, SI, FOXSports, NBCsports all on campus to cover the return and to create content for the start of the college football season. So, no, I don't think a day of Troy coverage was of much concern to anyone at UAB.

I'm still hoping troystet will keep his end of the bargain and help finance, as he put it so eloquently, UAB's pole barn.

Field goals and nets are in the plan... our "carport" will top out around 75ft. When is Troy's facility breaking ground? We have a actual on campus stadium. --I'm well aware. We don't need a carport and our players don't need to practice in the shade --The roof will allow practice to continue in inclement weather. gay-laugh --Congrats on gaining the right to marry... you sound very happy.

UAB will break ground in August. The Football operations facility will include locker rooms, meeting rooms, offices, football-specific weight room, sports medicine facility, dining hall, and equipment rooms. Included in the project are two regulation-size sport turf football fields and an 80yd natural grass practice field.

UAB football shutting down doesn't spell positive news for Troy or USA. Several USA fans have voiced the opinion that it would be good for them regarding recruiting. The reality is that it will make every G5 university look at their football and athletic programs and consider the "fiscal responsibility" tied to propping up ever-inflating budgets for the sake of sports. When the NCAA agrees to allow student-athlete stipends in the $5,000 range for all scholarship athletes, you are looking at even more schools reconsidering extravagant salaries, facilities, and budgets.
Troy has tradition and decades of history and athletic alumni on its side concerning football, but realize G5 schools are now fighting an increasingly uphill battle with the new playoff system in place and more opportunities to watch at home instead of buying a ticket.
My hope is UAB garners enough support to keep football... the programs not named UA or AU should hope the same as well.

No UAB on the schedule this season... how do you guys feel about that?
It stunk when we kept having to play in Troy on weekdays, keeping UAB fans from traveling to the games. I've heard rumors that the series will pick back up next season, but the invite to the Battle for Atlantis cut into UAB's available dates and we had to honor the home-and-homes we set up with UNC, LSU, Illinois St., USF, and UTC. A few UAB fans will probably say your RPI was killing us, but we scheduled worse RPI teams than Troy the last few years.
Best of luck this season!

That's 38 points... UAB fans will take points however we can get them.
Hang in there. Hopefully you have some players with leadership that can light a fire under the other players and change course on the season. I would be really surprised if you guys don't have a new coach next year.
