Since we're on the topic of getting better players to Troy, how would you market our school to a potential kid from Orlando? What about from Brantley? How do you prevent a potential student/athlete from going on social media, searching Troy University and see current students complaining about food places running out of food/being bad/expensive, parking problems or problems with teachers/the university? Do you think this influences them?
I know that each kid is different, but most kids go for name brand/recognition. It's getting better, but I think we need to market our university more in state and get more majors that people want. What good does it do for a kid to want to be a animal science major at Troy? (you know what I mean) I honestly don't know the best way to sell the university other than if it has your major, then it is one of the best schools because the teachers know you and care, you're always more than a number to them. The teams have a history of being good, the game day experience is special in it's own way and it's, in my opinion, the best school in the South.

You build a relationship with that player and you stay on top of him, you make him feel wanted, you sell him on the chance to play early, you sell his parents on how safe Troy and the campus is, you sell his parents on the fact their son will be safe, part of a family, will be able to play, and they will be able to see him play (compared to a MAC school, or some ACC schools etc. You outwork the other schools. It was done before at Troy and can be done now. We don't even try which there is no excuse for that.

In order to sell Troy the coaches recruiting actually have to travel outside a two county radius of Pike County.
Like a lot in the program our recruiting is old and stale, relying heavily on JUCO and football camps in Troy.

My signing class in 1986 had players from Pensacola (High, Escambia and Woodham)'to Miami (Hialeah-Miami Gardens), Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, and Tennessee. And we were D11 with no budget. We had hungry young coaches who busted their tails recruiting. Don't see that fire or effort right now. To easy to run one camp a year and look at left over juco players

What if the kids don't want to come to our school? How do you pitch the area and how can you say it's better than what they will find in a town of 20,000+ people

Well for starters, it'd be great if someone could put in a couple freaking parking complexes so there would be somewhere for everyone to park.

You sell the family atmosphere, the ease of getting around campus, the beautiful campus, the chance to play early, build relationships with coach/player, build relationships with the high school coaches. You sell. You look for solutions not excuses.

There isn't a college in the country students don't gripe about parking. Try to park at UF or UCF here, you will never ever complain about no parking at Troy.

Yes, but is it just parking? No, it's admissions, financial aide, teachers, bad food, bad buildings, and everything else that comes with growing pains. I know that people are going to complain about everything, but as a potential student, I don't want to see 9 out of 10 people complaining about a school.

Just because students everywhere gripe about parking doesn't mean we shouldn't do something about it. That's ridiculous. "We need to do something about football!" "No we don't, a bunch of people have terrible teams" great logic.

We really don't have a parking problem at Troy compared to other schools. It takes no more 10 minutes to walk across the whole campus, so where you park is irrelevant. Now a school like UCF with 67,000 students this fall, don't even attempt to park.

Yes, but we're not them. Therefore it shouldn't matter. If you want things to improve, you have to start. Granted we did that in areas. Such as upgrading dining, somewhat. But you can't just take problems from different schools and then say "well, at least we don't have it that bad!" And then move on.

Now a school like UCF with 67,000 students this fall, don't even attempt to park. The parking problem arises when the campus police decided to put each group of students in certain parking areas. Those areas fill up fast and the those that don't park correctly get a stupid ticket....yes, I got plenty of the dang things

So let's take funds away from our field house or other campus needs so we can build a parking garage so no one has to walk 2-5 minutes farther 03-banghead

If they gripe about Troy that just proves they either have never visited a college outside Pike Co or they just want to gripe. Try FSU parking!

I had a friend who's grand daughter who runs CC and financially could go anywhere she wanted just PICKED Troy. Grandfather went to UF, daughter went to UF, uncles went to UF, sister went to Auburn but she said when she saw the Troy campus she knew she had found her place. The "hick" town had no bearing. She wanted a good uncomplicated university with great educational and athletic opportunities with a beautiful campus. She found those in Troy.

Well, for starters, I have a relative in an office job at Troy. I won't say which office, but they had a bunch of people quit. Instead of hiring new people, she absorbed 3 other people's jobs. And still has days when she's bored to death. Cut back on needless jobs. Yes, I know, budget was cut back by a little, but still not enough. I'm not nearly the insider some of you are, so I get that I don't understand everything to the same level some people do. But I can do simple math that says it's not good business.

So your answer to parking is fire "needless employees"? You must be planning on canning a bunch to relieve the parking situation. Who is to say which employee is "needless", you? You say you have little "insider" information but then say there are a ton of "needless" employees who take up parking spaces. Don't see how you come to that interesting conclusion without bring very involves in a lot of areas personally where you could observe the actual work loads. Otherwise you are simply repeating what you are told. I agree we need a tall parking garage and across from the stadium seems like a good place but that's just my thoughts.
