I know this method can be reversed to show how many games we could have easily lost BUT looking at our overall record of 17-11 vs DI opponents and we were just 26 points short (in 7 games that we lost by single digits - 6 of which we lost by 3 points or less) I think we still have a real shot at winning the SBC tournament because we've already beaten App St. once this year and don't think we'd be way overmatched by JMU if we played them. We might not be the flashiest team on the court BUT I think Troy basketball has come a long way. Ended the year averaging 3K fans per game too.
This could be the start of some glory years in basketball if we keep this momentum with Coach Cross going.
This isn't to discredit how amazing how ladies are because they are still just killing it under Coach Rigby.

We're a bit short without him, no pun intended.

What happened to Jackson?0, BTW? I was at the last game in which he played and didn’t notice an injury of any kind.

Well... Troy DID have a chance to win the tournament.
The players didn't look remotely locked in. Texas State has now wanted it WAY more than Troy two times in a row, and it's been obvious.
A lot of dumb fouls, terrible passing, and lack of awareness on rebounds.

Want to win? Buy better professional players. That’s the way it is now.

Unfortunately that fuckery of NIL makes it happen. Greedy people who prefer money over people.

Disappointing end to the season. I’d still fire Coach Cross if he doesn’t win the Sun Belt next year 💯

Disappointing end to the season. I’d still fire Coach Cross if he doesn’t win the Sun Belt next year 💯 No thanks. Fire him so we can go back to 7-win and 10-win seasons again under someone else? Because you know that will happen. It's what happens to most mid-major schools at our level. Look at what UTA has been doing ever since they fired Scott Cross, all because they "wanted to get to the NCAA tournament annually". Firing Scott Cross will result in copious amounts of regret after a few years.

I'll take three straight 20-win seasons any day. Troy's the only SBC school currently to be on such a streak.
Hopefully we can make the CBI or something like that. I think Troy could do some damage and win their first ever D1 postseason game.

We would probably have been 17-16 if we didn’t play 3 really good high school teams. I like Coach Cross, I think he is a pretty good recruiter. That said, winning championships is what matters. Heck, Coach Cunningham won a SBC championship.

Heck, Coach Cunningham won a SBC championship. Actually, Troy was ranked #33 in the nation in Pythagorean wins, which is games Troy probably should have won based on statistical performance versus their competition. According to that data, Troy was very, very close to being 26-5. With a team that had what, just 3 players returning? And was picked to finish 12th in the SBC?

MY concern in “Today’s NCAA World of NIL & Portal” how many of these players will stay the course and remain loyal to Troy. I miss the “good old days” of players committing to an institution for FOUR years 😔

MY concern in “Today’s NCAA World of NIL & Portal” how many of these players will stay the course and remain loyal to Troy. I miss the “good old days” of players committing to an institution for FOUR years 😔 When “one and done” showed up 10 years or so ago it allowed for the G5 teams to rip into the tourney and do well. Now with NIL and portal college hoops on the G5 level will occur only if there is a large NIL at a school probably with no football because that would drag most of it. But until players have contracts (oh my lord I can’t believe saying that) but it is true that only with a contract that includes huge buy outs will any BB player stay more than two years (one for development and second for show) then off to higher NIL bid or THE POTENTIAL for higher NIL at a school that oft shows they have the financials on the NIL side. Yep, contract buy out clauses will help pump the breaks for basketball but like said: My good ole Alma mater where I spent ONE SEMESTER which was my favorite one cause I made the most money and we made it to the second round of the tournament is about the only way you will hear those Alma mater words. Football is not as pathetic yet and may never be but it is pretty close.

Even at the P5 level listen to announcers this year for some of the teams if not most. So and so was at X last year and he just passed it to Nimbo who was at Y last year and he is guarded by Tricky who was at K last year and stolen now by Bubba who was at J last year I was talking to head coach Murphy before the game saying that his new 6 third year guys have really helped shore up our offense this year. Crap like that.

Agree to disagree. We shouldn’t be happy with only making it to the SBC quarterfinals the last two years and the semifinals 3 years ago.

I think everyone has the right to disagree but firing Cross would be MONUMENTALLY STUPID. Just my opinion and that it is worth nothing on the open market. But as Katy Britt would say: Hi can come over to my kitchen anytime he wants or her wants or them wants or they wants or Z wants or Oh the horror of it all!

I can’t see replacing a coach that went 20-12 and 13-5. He will be 50 this year and probably has 15 good seasons to go. I think ADBJ should lock coach Cross up with a contract.

I’m not saying he should be fired this year. I fully expect to win the SBC next year, but I thought we would this year too though. If we do not win next year, that would be six years without a NCAA birth. Yes, I understand he inherited a less than talented team. I think I’m reasonable in my thought process. I promise you one thing, if our new Football coach doesn’t win the SBC in his first 6 years and has an average record between 7-5 or 8-4 you’ll all be asking for new leadership.

That was a tough way to end the season and hopefully we see more gas through the end next season but like CBT said 3 straight 20 wins seasons is us getting on the right track.
Hopefully we eventually begin to limit or eliminate non-DI games and see ourselves push higher up in the MBB landscape. However I think Coach Cross has done good things here and until there’s a drop off we should let him continue.
