Money is ALWAYS an issue with these Admins. Especially after getting burned for three years and forking over another $700,000 to get chippy gone. All on them. No sympathy here. Corn hits nail on head. Paying that buyout is stinging Hawkins hard. Big Arse cow in the road as you round bend. You run in a ditch to avoid big arse cow that would have totaled your car and maybe hurt those with you (fans, school, etc) Little damage done but not as much as would have happened. (The HC we don’t speak of) was big arse cow in the road and we were going to damage the car no matter what we did but maybe not as much and hurt us more by firing and paying for the damage done (we took the ditch) to avoid even greater damage to our car and probably us. In the end we don't like the damage but sort know it was necessary. It sucked and you are left there in the ditch hoping you can get it fixed cheaply but you have to see. Then you find out that it is going to cost more but you are pretty sure you avoided worse by taking the ditch. This is just Dr. Hawkins needs perspective on what needs to be done. After all you need a car and you even kind of really love that car. So you pay what you have to so that you can keep going.

Or better still you put on a larger mindset and see it not as damaging the car but simply the expected cost of doing business. Counting pennies and begrudging letting any slip off the table is small-minded. I'm not saying they LIKE it but Florida's athletic dept. isn't sweating buying anybody out. Yes, they easily have the resources and I get that. There's also a maturity and seriousness there too in the mindset of the "big boys". You do what you have to do to move forward and succeed. A "poverty spirit" is not going to get that done. As for maturing; when I was just out of school, it gave me pause to spend $10 on a dinner without looking to see how much I'd have to sweat it in the long run. Now that I'm an adult, spending $1K just to put freakin' dirt in my yard is just another thing you do when you grow up. And you do it without batting an eye because that's what you do. It's not all about age or resources. There was a time when I had the resources that I still wouldn't have considered doing such just because that was outside the realm of possibilities in my thinking. These days in college football, it's the cost of business if you're serious about things - and you'd better get ready to pay it and not play footsies with it. Change your mindset to pony up or piss off.

Which by the way is money well-spent if it leads to more winning, more butts in seats, more gear sold, more booster/alumni investment, more TV dollars, etc?

The the university is nothing in comparison to what the CCP has in their hip pocket but the more the better for them and their end game goal.

Is it possible that JS is holding out for more because we should have hired him 3 years ago?

Is it possible that JS is holding out for more because we should have hired him 3 years ago? No. This week is interviews. Sumrall is out recruiting with Stoops this week. He’s the kind of guy that gives 100% , so if he is interviewing with Troy, it is when he is done with his UK duties for the day.
