Fantastic job night by the D unit. Time for the naysayers to show a little love.
Let's hear it folks.

Defense played better tonight that they have all year long. Goal Line D was awesome, but we still had some big plays for no reason throughout the game. We did good to shut them down the majority of the time though.
Now the question is, is South that bad or did we improve? I'm hoping for the latter

We did good to shut them down the majority of the time though. Now the question is, is South that bad or did we improve? I'm hoping for the latter Both. We held them below their average in a multitude of categories, which tells me the defense did a good job. I saw a lot of things in this game that I haven't seen all year. Three turnovers and guys were really flying to the ball. I think they're improving. That said, Georgia State is the best offense we'll have seen so far, outside of Missouri. They also have the worst defense, we'll have seen to this point, comparable to Akron in that regard. It's a 50/50 game we really need, because I think we can take Coastal and Georgia Southern to get to bowl eligibility.

Troy's defense played better than the offense tonight, but that's really more of a critique of the offense than praising the defense, especially considering the opponent.

A very bad South team and South’s play calling made our defense look like it had a pulse tonight.

What I saw tonight was a defense that got beat on a few plays because their guys made the better play. What I didn’t see tonight was a defense get beat because guys were out of position. That is a HUGE improvement. The next big improvement has to come from the sideline. Several times they snapped the ball before our defense was set due to our coaches being slower than theirs with the play call. That will improve with experience, but if GA St runs fast, it has to improve quickly.

Defense looked better but let's also be realistic. They had a touchdown called back, a TD dropped, absolute atrocious play calling on the one yard line called out by the announcer, a int on one of the worst passes ever thrown and a qb who had absolutely zero touch on the ball and locks onto one reciever as soon as he gets the snap. The D did play with great intensity and covered better but South shot themselves in the foot as much as we stopped them but it was a much needed win that hopefully builds momentum. I will also say Martial is a beast and a play maker. I'm hoping these young guys start feeding off him. He finds the football and steps up when they desperately need a stop. Sadly he will get passed over for All American because of size and playing at Troy. This kid could start at Alabama.

You posted earlier this week that South was going to a tough out, that they were better than there record, etc. Now you say they are sorry and the worst. That Troy’s performance is more about South’s mistakes than Troys efforts. Even on a thread named Defensive Appreciation, you try to point out obtuse facts to throw water on an obvious hard fought good performance by the Trojan team. We had two goal line stands for goodness sake.

We had two goal line stands for goodness sake. Had they scored at the one, not had a TD called back, not dropped that TD pass and not handed the ball to our DB it is a three point Troy win or loss. That's the facts. Goal line stand was great but even the announcer said "dumbest play in football is qb sneak out of shotgun" Good win for us but to say we dominated them is not accurate. Improvement on D in areas but we still got the breaks to which you need sometimes in wins. Like I stated, hope this builds momentum but we got a lot of improving to do to beat the better teams ahead. I did see the players feeding off Martial which is great. This kid might be the best LB to ever play at Troy

I agree he could play at Alabama and be successful there, but for the same reasons you said he‘ll get passed over, he wouldn’t start at Alabama. At 5’10” 210, he’s 4” shorter and 25 # lighter than the LBs Alabama recruits, and they are as good as Martial.

You can get a 6'3 240 five star LB that doesn't have that

After throwing up in my mouth and swallowing my own vomit watching Troy play it’s first games of the season, last night was a massive improvement. I was glad to see for the first time this season Troy show improvement. The defense actually had stops, which it hadn’t before. The defense recovered turnovers including a pick six. The defensive improvement was admittedly, surprising. The offense played well enough to win despite spotting the opposition a touchdown and a field goal from its reoccurring turnovers that still haunt this team. For me sitting in section 110, the two things that stood out was our offensive line play opening holes for our run game and the time our QB had to pass from the pocket. Our players on the sideline looked confident throughout the game. Finally. USA has a buttload of work to do this season, admittedly. But maybe our team is finally becoming what we expected it could be this year

I have never seen a qb have as much time to sit back in the pocket. What was troubling and I couldn't see on TV was why he eventually had to tuck it an run sometimes like recievers weren't getting open. It looked like they played man a lot and were dropping 8 sometimes. Also was Todd injured. I didn't see a lot of him second half. Very encouraging to get a run game established again but the INT's we have to work on

They recruit guys like Courtney Upshaw who does all the things you mentioned and does it inability package.

The thing that makes guys like Martial and three other walk on's that I played with that are now in the HOF special is that they play the game with a (The HC we don’t speak of) on their shoulder like they always have something to prove. I admire that trait and even guys like Tom Brady play to prove the nay sayers wrong. It is an absolute privilege and honor to watch this young man play. We need to enjoy the next 2 1/2 years because you don't get a player like him to often

Finally some semi positive posts from Half Empty Troystet. Feels good doesn’t it ? Always been a fan of this young man. I also complemented our OL and Rb's and our defense playing hard. All I said was we got some breaks last night or the game might have been different. I do think this gave our defense some confidence because we have a challenge coming up in ATL. Go Troy
