I’m not a coach, but it we can’t play zone, let’s man up and send everyone else after the quarterback. At least try and make him rush his decision. I thought the reason for zone is because you can't play man. This is why I am on the message board talking smack and not coaching football. The best way to protect a weak secondary is to get pressure on the quarterback. Even the great ones blink in the face of constant pressure and make mistakes.

He knew when to blitz and put pressure Haven't seen much blitzing this year. We were told by the DC in the off-season that there would still be quite a bit of blitzing, just like VK did. After being optimistic and being a proponent of Brandon Hall, I'm losing confidence in him as DC, fast. I hope he does a better job soon...

Vic's defenses were predicated on confusing the opposing quarterback. Everyone has to do their job for that to work. I'm not trying to be funny when I say this, but drawing up exotic blitz packages would likely confuse our own defense. We have three freshman and a sophomore starting in the secondary, and two or three other freshman backing them up. These guys have zero experience and have next to no upperclassmen to guide them along. It's a really bad situation, but adversity is part of the game. How they all handle this moving forward will define them as a defense, and it's Brandon Hall's job to make sure they get better. I saw zero improvement last week and I'm not very hopeful against one of the better offenses in the country.

If they can't figure out blitz packages then 1) we didn't recruit D1 players 2) there is no hope for them in the classroom. That excuse is just an excuse

I don't recall that happening in another game this season.

However, in two home games, we’ve seen loads of 50/50 balls thrown against us. Our guys have won about 10% of those contested balls. I don’t think man is the right answer. I think mixing it in some would be nice, but it can’t be our base package. IMHO.

It's a good idea to play man, but obviously we don't have the personnel/experience/depth to do that this year. You would think Hall would get it.

Sad thing is about 4-5 of the long balls we are talking about our guys have been in position and made bad timings, they really are not 50/50 balls. Just good position and bad timing. Sunderland’s INT at the half yard line is really the only good position good timing play so far. While they have not always been in position they will get tougher and better at that with playing experience at this level. All is not lost! It is just slightly misplaced at the moment

From Athlon:
Troy’s high-powered offense is explosive enough to find the end zone on more than one occasion on Saturday. That being said, the Trojans are going to have a difficult time moving the football and scoring with any real consistency against a stout Missouri defense on the road. Meanwhile, the Tigers should be able to score at will against one of the worst pass defenses in the nation. Mizzou wins convincingly at home.

I don’t even know what time we play tomorrow. Wife asked me to go shoe shopping with her and the kids. I’m surprised it’s even a decision.

My response was for troystet. Your response was the logical one. And what part was foolish. We recruited D1 players that learned blitz packages under VK and now one year later people are saying blitz packages confuse our players. Lame excuse First, you realize our defense has been gutted by graduation and injuries and a little bit of transferring. Look up the top tacklers and staters and playing time from last year to this year. Second, itâs a whole different scheme, different coaches, the coaches style is different. Damnit man, cut these kids some slack. They are not robots. It takes some time to adjust. VK recruited these kids. We will be bowl eligible by the Texas St. game. Yes I believe we will get better. We lost two very close games to teams that had the same or more talent than us and our kids never stopped fighting. That a plus for the coaching staff. And we dominated teams that we should have dominated. If you think any coaching change is a seemless transition than yes you are foolish. Ask Neal Brown, we will tell you it is not seemless. Yes, (The HC we don’t speak of)âs job is to win. But donât expect filet mignon when all you have currently is ground chuck. I will cheer for victory. You can continue to cheer for loses so you can come on here and post non stop about this and that for the 100th time.

Everyone who is familiar with our roster shouldn’t be too surprised with us being 2-2 at the moment (even though we could be easily 4-0 now, but that’s CFB. Fresno St is 2-2 and they could be 4-0 now and would be ranked #1 among all G5’s now). I don’t get these 13-0 and NY6 bowl expectations every year, it only means people expecting this kind of success aren’t really familiar with our strengths and weaknesses... probably don’t really know who our players are - other than Barker, BJ Smith and Martial. We’ll be fine, probably finish 7-5 and that’s ok considering our extremely young secondary (facing some experienced / future NFL WRs early in the season), injuries, and that ridiculous BYE week in week2. However, we should expect some improvements and adjustments during the season, that’s what we can realistically expect from players and coaches.
Btw, next year might be even tougher (because of an inexperienced OL and a new QB), go and study our team if you expect a 13-0 season and NY6 bowl next year...
