This is an accurate summary. I looked at my dad about 2 mins into the 3rd quarter and said - “we haven’t forced a turnover this year.” Hope that we can start creating some.

(The HC we don’t speak of) Question: Why in the world is Coach Bama not on the sideline helping to lead that defense. This is one change that needs to be made if you want to try and keep somewhat of the defense we had the past three years.
Itâs your call, but just saying

I understand the situation with the injuries and young players, but what I still want to know is why the DBs were playing so far back and receivers were dominating the middle of the field untouched.

Looks to me (This is just me) the DC is running the 4-2-5 Defense better known as the 4-4. This loads 6 men in the box and has the backers aligned 5 yard off the ball, outside shoulder of the Guards while playing the open gaps. The is a solid Defense for the run but you leave the backside open at times for the pass. They were reading this due to our alignment and bring the their receivers across the middle. By them doing this the QB could do a quick check down and as soon as he seen the backers filling the caps he would unload the ball across the middle. If the backer did not fill the gaps he would then keep go through his progressions and look for another open receiver. We were playing the gaps a lot in this game due to their big backs and they were reading this (Have to give credit to the OC). Now that's across the middle, but the long ball, we got beat at times (Which is a coaching issue) and we were out of position (could be young player).
The problem is we went into half with our Offense making adjustments to keep us in the game and the Defense kept running the same thing. My question is why did he (DC) not make the adjustments on the backside to help eliminate some of the catches across the middle of the field.
This is my store and I'm sticking to it!

This is my store and I'm sticking to it! I think you are remembering the numerous times that Vic made great adjustments at half resulting in numerous victories. We shall see.

Something is different about the screen with reply if quoting. Sorry for the type on to your post. Not sure what is going on.

I read it as he recognizes that an adjustment was needed and should have taken place from man coverage to zone. He knows we have to be able to cover the middle of the field.

Took basically no responsibility for a lousy scheme. Blamed the players. No adjustments by the coach sets the players up for failure

Sounds like the Akron O will be a good test of any changes (regrouping). And NOT a Conference game!

“All in all those guys are going to keep working and get better. By the end of the year I think we will have those guys and they will be playing pretty good football.” The end of the year... you mean when App State comes to town? "Pretty good football" against App State isn't comforting. You have to be elite... a 9 or 10 win team to compete with App State.
Where is the urgency? These guys aren't coaching a just for fun team.

Also, I believe that you have a new HC and a new DC who are also finding their way around being in front of a microphone. There is a skill to that if you are not used to it.

The Troy defense had three freshman starting in the secondary last week due to injuries. It was Troy's first real test with a new coaching staff. This Akron team is not nearly as good as Southern Miss and we get two upperclassmen starters back this week. This is the first real week of film with the pass defense as we weren't tested by the Camels at all. Coach Hall and Coach Brown should be helping the secondary, especially the freshman that played last week, to make better decisions, and they should also be correcting issues with how these guys are schemed. We'll see how this progresses throughout the season as this is a work in progress, but this week versus a much lesser opponent should tell us a lot.
