Thursday night was a tough loss for the Trojans. After taking a 1-point lead at the half, the Trojans faced a 1-3-1 press that stifled our offense for 4 straight possessions. On those 4 straight possessions (the game really turned), the lead went from 3 points for Georgia Southern to 11 points (in a little over a minute of time on the play clock). After a timeout by Coach Phil Cunningham, the Trojans regrouped but could never cut the lead to any less than 6 the rest of the game. Once again, big game from senior, Jordon Varnado. He tied his career high of 32 points and 10 rebounds. Sophomore, Darian Adams chipped in 12 points. The stat of the game is probably this one: The Eagles shot a blistering 61% from the field for the game.
Something to watch over the next few weeks is how redshirt sophomore forward, Davion (Tree) Thomas is worked into the rotation. The NCAA recently released Thomas to play this year. The 6'8 Forward is very athletic and actually shoots very well from the outside. He will make the Trojans even more lethal in the frontcourt.
Troy has to move on and be ready for today's huge matchup. The league leading, Georgia State Panthers (14-5, 5-0) come to Trojan Arena riding a 7-game winning streak. The Trojans have played Georgia State well winning both regular season last games before the Panthers got revenge in the conference tournament 73-51. Let's hope the Trojans rebound today and play much better defense against a well coached and very talented Georgia Panthers team.
Go Trojans!!

Phil Cunningham should ignore the keyboard coaches.
