Please come out to support a great cause!
TROY, Ala. – Troy softball will conclude its fall schedule Friday by hosting Mississippi State in the Geaux Teal Game in memory of Alex Wilcox. First pitch is set for 8 p.m. at the Troy Softball Complex. The Trojans, who are unbeaten in their six fall games so far, will wrap up the schedule with a Mississippi State team that finished the season nationally ranked in 2018. Troy defeated defending national champion Florida State, 6-1, this past Sunday in Tallahassee. The game itself will be devoted to former MSU and local softball player Alex Wilcox, who lost her battle with ovarian cancer this year. All proceeds collected at the game will go to the Geaux Teal Foundation, an ovarian cancer awareness organization. The fundraiser seemed to be a huge success! I have not seen the bleachers so full since Troy played Alabama back in 2014. Troy beat Miss State 3-2 to wrap up the fall season undefeated, which included the other big win over Florida State 6-1 in a 10 inning game.

Awesome to see so much support for Alex Wilcox and her family.
Were the games against Florida State and Miss State a matchup between our starters and their starters? Or just a mixing rotation of all players?

King did not pitch for Florida State, but we saw pretty much all their other pitchers, including one that was hitting 70mph. Their starting lineup seemed to be most of their starters, although since they played 10 innings, several reserves got into the game for both sides. Troy pitched 5 different pitchers against them (Johnson 4 IP, Glover 3IP, and one IP each for Blasingame, Willis and Graves) and all of them did very well. I was at the game and honestly, the score should have been much worse. Troy had the based loaded 3 different times and only got 2 runs out of them (M. Porter just missed a grand slam when the ball hit the top of the LF fence). Florida State really did not have many base runners the entire game. It really was a one-side game in Troy's favor, which was awesome to watch. The Miss State game was pretty much a match up of starters and the coaches seemed to treat it like a real game. The freshman pitcher Johnson completely dominated. I think she had 5 K's in the first two innings alone. Hussey hit an absolute BOMB of a 2 run HR, which ended up being the difference in the game.
