I am sure that Coach Smartt and his staff will have many more take-ways from this year's postseason than I. But Mine are as follows:
Our hitters are competitive against the best pitching the power conference teams have.
Our defense is as good as any team in the tournament.
Our best pitchers are as good as most other teams in the tournament.
Our pitching depth, especially relief pitching is not enough to advance beyond a regional without several things breaking our way.
Our conditioning and hydration, especially for pitchers, needs to account for the very hot, humid conditions in the South in June.
The first three should give us confidence that we are capable of winning our way past the regionals. The last two are challenges that, if met, will enhance our opportunity to advance.
This team was extremely close to being the caliber team that could win a regional!
Omaha is on my bucket list! Going there to see the Trojans play would be a dream come true!
Go Trojans!!!

Go Trojans!!! I agree with most of your observations and I too look forward to Omaha. I did see that, while we made numerous clutch defensive plays, we were plagued with some unfortunate errors that cost us runs and extended innings when we needed to get out. I didn't see the other teams making these errors. But for a few minutes of extra delay we could have played GA in a night cap after a full day's rest and the outcome likely would have been much different and we would be booking our tickets for the Super Regional. Auburn is going and we beat them handily one game and lost the other by one run so we are clearly able to compete at the highest levels.

Those were really the first times all season those kind of errors that happened. And while it does stink it happened then, this was still a strong defensive team. I do agree about the schedule messing up our chances.

At any level of baseball, post-season play comes down to pitching. I think we could make a run next season if we can focus on pitching endurance.

It has been a VERY good year! THIS team did everything the right way! Unfortunately I will ALWAYS believe that the weather delays and the NCAA "curfew rule" had MUCH MORE impact on the Athens Regional than one can imagine. IF you were among the numerous Trojan fans in attendance, you understand!!! IF NOT, do not question the impact. This team was the only team in Athens to beat Duke and was in the Regional driver's seat when we went to bed on Friday night (after playing an extended game) expecting to face Georgia after the sun set on Saturday. It is amazing to me that the NCAA would not allow a college game in the center of a college campus to start at 11:17 pm (based on their 55 minute requirement between games), especially considering the weather patterns that had already been in play for the tournament. SO PROUD of this team and coaching staff, their accomplishments as a team and as individuals, and the foundation they have laid for next year. My final thoughts are for every Trojan Baseball Fan to be making their own game plan on HOW YOU are going to get to Omaha in the future because I believe it WILL happen ... the future IS BRIGHT

If anyone doubts that we are capable of beating any team in the country, note that we beat four teams that are in a Super Regional (one of them we took 2 of 3 from) and lost by one run in an extra inning walk-off to a fifth Super Regional participant. The 2018 Trojans are a very good baseball team. I would not trade our coaches for any SEC staff, because the SEC does not have a better coaching staff than Coaches Smartt, Gierke, and Phillips.

The schedule really did mess up the momentum generated Friday night. We basically played one game in a little less than 48 hours and 3 games in just over 24 hours.

It hurts to nearly win the conference championship then get bounced from regions (again). I hope next season the team can get over the hump but we can't deny overall it was a good year.
