Information stolen from the cnbbs.com site for Sunbelt football but interesting things shaping up.
So far we are to thru number 88. Thought there were 130 FBS teams but ranked UTEP at 129
For the Belt so far
128 Texas State
123 Coastal Carolina
118 Louisiana
115 Georgia Southern
104 Georgia State
99 USA 96 ULM
This means we play 7 conference teams ranked in the bottom quarter (actually about 26% if 130 teams)
However if we look at the P5 Schools that have been posted so far we see
112 Oregon State
109 Syracuse
108 Kansas
107 Illinois
106 Vanderbilt
105 Colorado
94 Virginia
93 Baylor
92 Indiana
91 Arkansas...…..Wow behind Ark State!!!!!!
90 Rutgers
89 Georgia Tech...…..odd in that ranked around 40-50 in other pre-season mags
88 Tennessee
So P5 in the bottom third (32.3%) or about a third of them (31%) I think the rich are getting richer and the have nots are getting more company by the NOT SO SUPERIOR P5

I have personal knowledge about the discrepancy in football polls re: GaTech. 89 Georgia Tech...…..odd in that ranked around 40-50 in other pre-season mags
The more positive rankers assume that triple option spread (Paul Johnson version) can complete a pass.

72) USF ( not a P5 but if you look at their rank with Athlon they nationally rank them 63 and Oregon is nationally ranked in Athlon at 23) Most of these magazines simply have a hierarchy and write them out according to that SBC will be in the 128-70 area and Pac12 will be in 5-50 area. Something like that just fills pages for most of them. So As we all tend to do we look at Phil Steele as someone who gives thought to this stuff. I have to admit the Orlando countdown seems to have really looked at actual performance and come to their own conclusions. I think while many believe that the Boise / TROY game is something to watch they contradict their own canned rankings in someone in 70’s to 80’s should NOT give a 15th ranked team a tussle. I can however see a 50’s team giving a team in the teens trouble at home with an unknown commodity of QB and a pretty known commodity of our coaching staff and with what we do have coming back. I always pick up the Lindeys and Athlon but really they are relatively worthless. Street and Smiths avoids national rankings I believe for that purpose of it is Hard to put an Ark St at 25 particularly with their past OOC resume. So here is to Phil and Orlando folks for trying to actually and really look at the teams. Injuries screw up lots of teams and that is impossible to predict but at least it gives us something to look at and talk about till camps open.

#67 Purdue #66 Louisville These are the 22nd and 23rd P5 ranked before 3 SBC teams and that a few years ago would have been unheard of in any fashion let alone pre-season. The style in which quality over market is showing significant payoff.

#58 Boston College is the 27th P5 team we will be ranked ahead of in this poll. Kind of wonder why Ark-State at 64 other than their perpetual botching of OOC games they should win. I look at their schedule and see 1-2 losses till a bowl. Alacrapa and us hopefully. As to App-State I see only 2-3 losses with those being Penn State, Ark-State and ya hopefully. With us I have already made my predictions but I think they look at TROY and say “ok I see probably 2 losses maybe 3 with 10-11 wins and they will be back in that 28-38 range at the end of the year. So why not rank them higher because they play the better teams better than they always do other games”. It will be interesting to see where App and is wind up. However, as far as ranking us most pre-season do not have us that high and Phil ranks us 52. With that ranking he hedged bets on our QB and if we finish close to where we have been the past two years he is not to far off. If our QB play is surprisingly good he will just say there was no way to have predicted that and therefore not be all that surprising. However these other rags (I mean mags) just have a range for the Belt and they are going to fill in the blanks.
