I want to make sure I understand....this is the softball team that is woefully deficient in coaching and playing talent, right? It’s amazing how quiet some members get after we win isn’t it? Chirp, chirp, chirp......

In the SBC FInal Four with poor coaching, horrible talent. Hoe did this happen!? This is so disappointing!

Heck of a run in the tournament! Taking the last game into extra innings before falling just short. Congratulations!

I couldn't be more proud of these young ladies! I mentioned in my previous post that once they got to the tournament they could make some serious noise. While the loss to Texas State was heartbreaking, the reality is Troy was very close to winning that game. The three run bomb by Hussey off Rupp was absolutely HUGE! You have to tip your cap to Texas State for coming back to the retake the lead in the middle innings, but Troy continued to battle and scored again on Rupp to send it to extra innings. Even when Troy fell behind 9-5 in the 9th inning, they managed to load the based and have the tying run at the plate. It just goes to show how this team never gives up. They could have just laid down, but they continued to fight! With the Troy performance in the tournament and most of the roster returning, I wouldn't be shocked to see Troy ranked next preseason in the top three in the conference. Just a few final thoughts.....I firmly believe if Troy had won the semi-final game against Texas State, that they would have then beat ULL in the championship game. That is just a gut feeling based upon how Troy was playing and how they did against ULL during the regular season. Also, it was awesome to have two Troy players be named to the Sunbelt All-Tournament team. Both awards were well deserved! troytrojans.com/news/2018/5/12/softball-glover-and-truitt-named-to-sun-belt-all-tournament-team.aspxI would also be remiss if I didn't mention how well the coaching staff did this year, especially the decision by Mullins to bring in Jaycee Affeldt as the pitching coach. GO TROY!

With only two players graduating and getting back essentially the entire starting line-up, mixed in with the players that Louisiana and Texas State lose (especially Randi Rupp), next season needs to be the breakthrough season for the program.

You, sir, are correct. I reviewed this thread and the talent level was never addressed. My memory failed me, thanks for the correction.

Wow! I haven't checked the sight in a while, and I came back to all of this softball talk. I was at the Texas State series and watched the entire Sunbelt tournament on ESPN+. The team made great strides at the end, but we only finished with an RPI of #98. We lack consistency and I am sorry but you need to beat the teams you are supposed to beat. UL finished #22, Texas State #28, GA State #64, South AL #69, UT-Arlington #83, and GA Southern #84. If this was football, you guys would be going crazy being worse than all of those teams. I do think the pitching coach was a great hire, as you can clearly see confidence in them. Yes, they were much better than last year, which was the worst season of all time. I am hoping we can build off this and we should be better next year with all of the returners. Do you think the coach gets a contract extension?
Also, for those of you complaining about hurt feelings, I am almost positive no one has said anything on here that the coach doesn't already know. I want the softball team to be treated just like football, and I am pretty sure the coaches and players get criticized publicly. It is just part of the business of being big time.

Thanks for your experienced observations. Your observations are spot on and appropriate for discussion now that the season is ended. I take issue with you about complaining publicly about college athletes or their coaches during the heat of the season. There are enough pressures, schedules and git 'r dones during the season than I think a college athlete should worry about, be it football, softball, basketball.... whatever. Especially from hyped-up fans who (like myself) rarely have all the facts or issues. Now, at the end of the season, or during the season, cornhole will post his humble negative observations at the Warrior Board, assuming privacy from those who are "in the game". Suggest others consider the same. GO TROJANS!

This person 100% GETS IT. Hard to say if Mullins gets an extension... maybe if they had made it to the SBC Tourney finals or even won it. I do believe next season will make or break her. Practically the entire starting lineup of batters, fielders, and pitchers returns. Troy will likely be picked preseason Top 3 in the SBC. They've shown they can beat Top 25 Texas State and Louisiana, so there's not a lot of excuses next season if they don't improve further. Besides that, a lot of you that reply to softball posts aren't as interested or invested as you portray to be in these threads. It shows with how little some you even know about the competition Troy faces or how little detail you offer about what has happened in the games. Just because you check TroyTrojans.com to see how softball did in a game or get tweets from Troy Athletics about their results doesn't cut it, and it's painfully obvious some of you do that. I also tend to be a little salty when softball, basketball, baseball, etc. aren't doing well because I'm as big a fan of those as I am football... and that's why I don't understand the views some of you have when our non-football sports are struggling... you suddenly become passive... yet those same passive people called for ALL heads to roll after football lost to Abilene Christian a few years back.

I don’t just check the Athletics twitter feed to see how we did. I’m not a football only fan. I care about how we do across the board. I’ve been a fan since a very young age. Troy is something that I’ll always be passionate about regardless of a sports result.

One of the indicators I watch is the Bubba's Cup. We're doing better. I can remember when we were dead last. If you look at who wins it, it's not usually the #1 football team. I don't know of another measure that compares us to the rest of the Sun Belt in all sports, but it's the measure we have. South Alabama and Middle Tenn have dominated the top spot.

The reason South Alabama, GA Southern, GA State and UTA have a higher RPI is mostly because they all played a tougher non-conference schedule than Troy, not because they had a better year. Even though the Sunbelt teams lost the vast majority of those tough games, it still increased their RPI. I expect Troy to play a tougher non-conference schedule next year (we better!), which should increase our RPI. Troy obviously lost some games they should have won (FAMU, UAB, TN Tech), but they were not alone among the teams you listed. South Alabama lost two games to Coastal Carolina and one to lowly App State. I really doubt they would consider that a good year. GA Southern got swept by Coastal Carolina and lost to the College of Charleston (whoever that is....lol). I think UTA and Troy were probably tied for the 3rd best team in the Sunbelt this year and the conference tournament pretty much proved that (GA State is there with them too). I 100% agree that Troy had inconsistencies this year and we need to be better, but I feel this was the transition year from Sunbelt doormat to competitive team. Hopefully next year we will take the next step to Sunbelt champion!

RPI is a very complex formula and SOS is one component. You can check the team sheets for the nitty gritty, but it is what the NCAA uses to rank the teams. You can't say we had a bunch of wins this year and then bash the RPI rank because we played a weak schedule. We played a weak schedule and therefore had more wins, and we still lost to FAMU, TN Tech, etc. RPI is what I use because it is a mix. We won 4 conference series this year, the three teams that finished dead last and the first place team. Yes, we got hot at the end. Does anyone know why we didn't play in the softball NIT? I saw that UT-Arlington went. It seems with our young team, they would want to get in as many extra games as possible.

Unlike football where you have to win 6 games to be bowl eligible, Baseball, basketball and softball the only thing that matters is the conference tournament. The better the competition OOC the better. You get better facing great pitching and having your pitcher face great hitters. You prove nothing playing Fordham, Montana, FAMU, Bryant, TN State, Niagra, Binghamton etc. I hope we toughen up the schedule next season, it only makes us better

I don't quite understand why the amount of at-large teams fluctuates so much year to year, unless there are a lot of teams that decline bids to play in the NISC? For all I know Troy may have declined a bid. I know the women's basketball team declined a bid to the WBI Tournament after this past season, because Rigby said the team was so thin on depth... so who knows.
