5 Questions For Spring Practice:
1. Sawyer Smith vs Kaleb Barker vs Gunnar Watson.
Who gets the nod? My honest opinion is that Smith has the most upside and will get the nod, even if Kaleb is a little more polished going into the season. Watson is a possible redshirt.
2. Jamarius Henderson or Kevin Perkins as feature back.
Are we sticking with the big back system, or is this more like 2013 where Perkins comes in for goal line situations. It would be a waste not to feature Henderson IMO.
3. Who will emerge as a playmaker at defensive end?
Troy is absolutely loaded with talent at bandit and defensive end. 1st Team All-ABC Hunter Reese and backup Zo Bridges are a tremendous duo at bandit. Will Kelvin Lucky or Rasool Clemons be the guys at DE, or will one of the JUCO signees take that spot? Either way, Troy has an embarrassment of riches at both DE and BANDIT, likely the deepest Troy has ever been there.
4. Will Choloh and Sailo have an immediate impact at DT?
I think Choloh will be a force right away. An All-American wrestler, he has the technique to really disrupt offensive lines early. Sailo will add much needed depth after the departure of Jamal Stadom.
5. How Quickly will Sunderland and Samuel adapt to Troy's system?
Samuel, a starter at Lousiville, and Sunderland, a projected starter at playoff team Oklahoma should assimilate rather quickly. Both played in similar systems to my knowledge.
Thoughts?

I don't care which one starts. The fact of the matter is there should be no dropoff on the Dline. I do see the potential in the run defense being equal or better than it was last season. Kudos to the staff for the consistency. It is what will give the Trojans staying power.

JHenderson for sure, we should have used him more often this past season 3. Not much worried here, might take a few weeks, but we have the talent and coaching 4. I think it is too early to expect a FR DT to make an immediate impact 5. Both will be part of the rotation from the beginning and Sunderland will likely play LB (I read this somewhere) Two more Questions:6. Will the OL manage to protect the new starting QB? 7. LBs: Biggest question mark going into the season IMO (next to QB) StrengthsSecondary, Running backs, WRs, Return game UnclearQB Issues LB, Punting/Kicking Predicition:Minor rebuilding year, 8-4 type of season with losses to Boise St (Top15 team, returning 21 Starters) and at Nebraska (quite experienced team and new coaches) We'll be back in 2019 provided we won't lose HC, OC, DC... could be our best season ever, many key players and starters will return, lack of WR depth could be an issue)

I don't think we have an issue at punting. Look at the total picture from last season. AL.com recognized Sumpter as the best current punter from the state playing NCAA FB. Her are his numbers: Tyler Sumpter, Spain Park/Troy 5-10, 230, RS-Fr. Sumpter averaged 40 yards per punt with a long boot of 60 yards. Sixteen of his 59 punts were fair caught, 16 were inside the 20 and nine were 50-plus yards. He also made 7-of-9 field goals with a long of 40 and converted 34-of-34 PATs.

We still have a very talented team. Will probably be the greatest crowd in the history of The Vet.

There is no way LB is an issue... We will miss the sheer bulk of Sam but the dudes back there are growing a bit themselves and they have speed..love Folsom and the rest. I too think this will be perhaps the most surprising part of our team in speed and tenacity.

Other teams are replacing players too, you know.

I think we have chance to be better on Offense. Of course we loose a great QB and couple of good RBs ... but biggest thing ... 4 returning OL starters! Also, we redshirted some good OL prospects. So, with a dual-threat QB (either one) ... and some explosive RBs, the Run game should be dynamic! Also, I think Willis really came into his own ... and with addition of Samuel ... I believe we can be explosive. Also, I believe we're even better on Defense! Lots of good, young talent!! I predict we'll lead the conference in Tackles for loss/sacks So, prediction: we can win every game on the schedule! (of course ... as we've seen too .. pretty much every team on the schedule could beat us if we don't play well) ... so 13-0!! (think that's right with the Championship game now) New Years Day Bowl!! Hell ... may as well dream a little! But, it's doable!

Really good questions and insights: I think Smith likely is more of a complete game ... but both will probably play. Really excited to have a true dual-threat QB running our offense! If Henderson can keep emotions in check ... he's "next level" kind of talent! All things equal ... I think he would be feature back, with Perkins the "change-up" ... along with Smith and Frye! Some explosive options! O-Line is what has me most excited! 4 returning starters!! Also, we've built depth the last few classes! There's competition at pretty much each position. Should be a real strength of the Offense. You are right ... the End/Bandit position is really good! Along with those young/explosive DTs ... we should make opposing QBs lives miserable!! Lucky started to grow into his potential at end of year ... and if Clemons is healthy ... that just adds to a scary group! I think the LBs coming back are really good too! And yes .. I believe Sunderland and Samuel will step in and contribute right away!

Barker listed at DE and plays DE in pass rush. as been very effective at bot positions. Now tat we ave more bulk on te inside look for im to move outside permanently because of is agility, speed and motor. r

Again, he will be playing inside this year. If you are looking at the roster that is from last year and it has not been up-date due to new players coming in. In college football they move players around due to their size or their needs. So what you seen last year want be what you will always see the next year. Sometimes it changes from game to game.
